Whenever I go to a new city, one of the first things I do is usually head towards the information centre. I can’t really explain this, as I very rarely ask them for any information, I mostly just like to browse all the brochures. I’m possibly just worried about missing something amazing that I will regret until the end of my days.
Anyway, this iSite is OK; it’s hampered a little by its slightly awkward site at the bottom of the Sky Tower, which means that mostly people assume the people working here can answer their questions about the Sky Tower, and also that it has no natural light, always a bummer. Although they have a wide range of brochures, good, this place does seem to miss that real sense of local knowledge that makes an information centre really great.

After hearing that finding a car park was impossible, I decided to catch a bus to the Pasifika festival. I went to this i-​SITE to see if I could get some information about the bus routes. I asked the guy at the counter about the buses. He looked a bit frazzled, like maybe he was new to the job and was finding things a bit stressful. He told me to go to the bus stops on Symonds street. I wasn’t convinced that he knew what he what he was talking about. Firstly the Symonds Street was like a 40min walk from where I was, and secondly he didn’t specify anything about which particular bus to take from Symonds Street. No big surprise to later find out that he was incorrect.

Centrally located in the Atrium of Skycity, this i-​site is perfectly positioned to be able to cater to those tourists coming through the skytower attractions etc. If you are just new to the city and unsure of what and where all the best places to visit in Auckland are (after exhausting resources besides Unilocal of course!) the i-​site is a really great place to take a breath and relax and put your problems in the hands of the resourceful hands of the staff here.
The staff are able to help out with any requests really and can provide expert local knowledge and free, objective advice on travel throughout Auckland and New Zealand, from good hotels and backpackers to check into, directions for those directionally challenged among us and bus and train timetables and reservations.
Really an awesome service all over!
