Dental Zuñiga

I am retired and have not found private dental insurance to be a viable alternative so I decided to look for a good dentist in Tijuana. We were referred to a dental practice in Tijuana by a trusted friend from Mexico — her whole family goes there. I needed some heavy dental work done including an extraction, a crown removal, a filling for a cavity under that crown, and a bridge plus a cap on a front tooth that fell off from my prior dentist. All the procedures were done by a dental surgeon that was absolutely excellent and gave me constant feedback as to what she was doing. Each chair has a flat screen TV and we watched the World Cup while my work was being performed. There was zero discomfort throughout all the procedures. We have returned several times for fillings and cleanings and a whitening kit for my wife which included custom inserts.

To find Dental Zuñiga, take a yellow cab (or drive) from the border up third street (Calle Tercera) to Avenida Constitución. Turn right on Avenida Constitución and they are about a half a block down on the right. There is a sign and they are on the second floor. If you drive, simply take the loop to downtown (Centro) which becomes third street. Turn right on Avenida Constitucion and there is supervised public parking on the right just beyond the dentist office. As of this writing (March 2015) third street is under heavy construction as part of a downtown renovation. It’s still possible to drive but a bit more challenging.
One tip: Get a Passport Card ($ 30 if you have a current passport) because you can use the Ready Lane coming back, either by car or on foot, and save literally hours in line. Try for a morning appointment Tuesday-​Thursday and hit the line by 2PM. You can have a nice lunch at El Plato de Oro (another hidden gem) about four blocks from their practice and then cruise on home enjoying the substantial savings versus the same procedures in the USA.
