Well… Marbella Suites appears to be closed down, maybe for good! Apparently, the recent hurricane did a number on it, and it’s not going to reopen, at least as a motel, according to sources. Perhaps a campground is in the works for the future! The location here was difficult, as it’s about half-way between Cabo and San Jose del Cabo, so it was hard to get to unless you had a car… and then, you had to drive almost everywhere… sad to see it go…

I was so impressed with Marbella Suites en la Playa! First I’ll talk about the room… we had a one bedroom with a «garden view». I can’t say there was much of a garden to speak of but the suite opened up to a cute living area, kitchen and dining space. There was a microwave and small refrigerator, as well as eating utensils in the kitchen with cute artwork and tile work thorughout. The bathroom was a fair size with a single sink and great natural lighting over the shower. I will share that the water pressure was good but the heat was lacking. I didn’t find it major enough to report to the staff, especially since it was fairly refreshing after the humidity and climb up the numerous stairs, but I probably should have mentioned it for the next guests. The bedroom was a good size offering a clean queen size mattress, three drawer dresser, and three foot closet space to hang nicer clothing. There is a safe in the room, but an employee showed us how to use it, including the code to open it, and there wasn’t a way to customize the code. There was never any indication someone tampered with the safe at all, but it was in the back of our minds. There were two air conditioning units, one in the living area and the second in the bedroom. The room was always perfectly cool thanks to these units. I was quite pleased with the room, and would stay there again in a heartbeat. In regards to the staff, we encountered the friendliest employees throughout our week stay! I used as many opportunities as I could to practice my Spanish and everyone was patient and encouraging. David at the restaurant was pleasant and easy to talk to as well as Lilian at the front desk, just to name a couple. The restaurant onsite was a great way to start and finish our day or enjoy a drink or two. The food was DELICIOUS and I recommend the shrimp pasta(it has a little heat to it thanks to the chilli), the chicken cordon bleu, and the ham and Swiss omelette. Truly everything we tried was yummy and the view of the beach just a few yards away made it that much better. There is a pretty pool below the restaurant patio and plenty of chairs to lounge in and read or tan. The beach was nice to walk on but it is not swimmable due to the surf. I did not give 5 starts because there was construction going on during our stay seemingly outside our unit without warning and the location was less than desirable in that we were between the two major towns with just about nothing in between. To take a taxi to either San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas was $ 35 each way. I was not willing to lose over $ 60 to transportation alone. I can think of other activities(parasiling, snorkeling, etc…) to spend that on instead! We found that the local bus picked up across the highway and was $ 2 – 3 each person and actually pretty comfortable. The purple Ruta de la Desierta buses are air conditioned and comfy, but spendier($ 3each), while the white Cabo Baja buses are older without AC, but still satisfactory and $ 2 each person. Be careful as we noticed a few of the bus drivers weren’t so honest about the fare. Anyway, focusing back on Marbella, I would absolutely stay there again, but ultimately wish there were more tourist attractions nearby. :)
