If you miss American food or want Mexican with a twist, this spot is for you.
Incredibly large pizza selection with fresh meat toppings which comes in 10 inch or 16 inch portions.
Rib-​eye had a little too much fat for my liking but it did come with pasta side which was a first for me.
I love that they have different portion sizes for most of their entrees.
Outdoor seating looks great with tons of trees and tropical/​jungle feeling.
Service is a slow though.

Husband and I visited Piola to grab some dinner before everything in the city closed on Christmas eve but we ended up having a great experience here. The ambience is very nice and great for a romantic night out.
The place has delicious thin crust pizza with tons of different options. You can also make a pizza half-​n-​half, which spices up things. Half our pizza had potato on it and was still raw. When brought to the waiter’s attention, he was very willing to bake it some more and bring it back. That’s what I call, great customer service.
Even as we were dining we saw the wait line grow quite long, which reflected the popularity of this place. So check if they take reservations to avoid waiting. The restaurant seems to be in an upscale neighborhood with other nice looking restaurants but is further away from the main walkable part of Quintana Avenue, requiring a taxi if you stay anywhere close to the central area in Playa.
All in all, a nice restaurant with good food, music and customer service.

Ate twice in Piola during my recent vacation and must say that their pizzas are great! Not like the best you’ve ever had, but do the trick and are definitely above the typical beach destination standards.
Just one complain: the service is s-​l-​o-​w. It can take ages to place the order or get the check. One star away for that, sorry guys!

What a disappointment. Ate here twice, once we did take out and the other time ate in. The first time we ordered a pretty basic pasta and a pizza– pasta was waaaaay too garlicky & just not appetizing. The pizza came with a crème that we literally were wiping off with our napkin. Sure, the crust was decent, but otherwise, fail. Decided to give it another try (maybe we just ordered wrong?), missed again! Ordered a veggie pasta that they just tried too hard at– so many different flavors, Too many ingredients… who does cherry tomatoes & sun dried tomatoes in the same dish? Plus carrots, zucchini & broccoli. Too bad. Canada ordered the salmon bc they didn’t have any other seafood (and he didn’t want a pizza again) — had to send it back bc it wasn’t cooked enough, but otherwise it was decent. Unfortunately the salmon ended up making him pretty ill the rest of the night. Too bad. Atmosphere is good though, cute interior. Otherwise, skip it.

Was back to Piola this week. Best pizza in all of Playa. We actually made the trek from Cancun with this in mind for lunch.
Everyone who works here is really nice and welcoming. We ordered pizza x 2 for the 4 of us. Assorted drinks, slushy basil martini is unique but delicious. We were also served a complimentary appetizer… how kind!
Strolling along Avenida Cinco at Calle 38, lots of canopied trees sets the stage for Piola. Even on a rainy day sitting outdoors here you are covered and comfortable.
Pepperoni, olive and mushroom! Viola-​Magic.

Decided to not have delicious Mexican food on our last day in Playa and we came upon this spot. Lots of variety of pizza. We ordered the Pastorella (like a taco al pastor) and the carbonara pizza. Both were really good, we were pleasantly surprised. We also ordered the margarita special, but that tasted more like water. Overall a good dinner spot!

Best Pizza me and the wife had in the area. I was really surprised at how good the pizza was and it wasn’t that we don’t have good pizza in California. That thin crust with seasoned sausage was just to good to be true in Mexico of all places! The drinks are the best!!! There is one with a fresh «cigar sized «cinnamon stick and berries with three different liquors. The Kiwi one was my favorite w/​mandarin vodka. Its worth the mosquito bites for more of Piola!

This place was busy — their pizza is good from a wood fired oven and very thin and crispy. Their menu is large with pasta, salad, and pizza. the bruchetta was very good. All of their tables filled up while we were eating there. Seems very popular. Homemade mozzarella cheese.

Great thin sliced pizza place with other good Italian offerings too. Great atmosphere and nice, warm décor.

Prices were very fair, atmosphere late at night was laid back and fun. The service was very good. We thought the pie was good but not as good as many of the other places around town. Most notably we thought there was too much cheese. I have never complained about too much cheese, but this place really piles it on. It was falling all over my plate in globs as I tried to pickup my slice for a bite. Everybody likes different styles of pie and we did not think that this was bad pie at all, but not great either. We would go back again late at night for beers and apps no doubt.

We ate at Piola twice during our stay in Playa. My number one favorite thing is the local atmosphere. We even sat at «our» table both times. Food is good, bruschetta is great. Pizza was good but there are so many varieties you need to pay attention. Don’t confuse mozzarella with fresh mozzarella. Service is solid– not too fast, not too slow. Wish I could remember our server’s name, but he was attentive and funny. Price was more than reasonable for an open air/​beach restaurant. Overall, you feel like a local having a great casual meal.

I first started going to Piola 5 yrs or so ago bcs it was a restaurant that had food my son loved and I could eat (not always easy). The food? Above average. The waitstaff? Usually ditzy and adorable. This visit was more entertaining than usual.
I fly in late, I’m starving and decide to go to tried and true, thus a short walk to the romantic (ok I’m alone, but whatever, I still like romantic spots) and quiet spot with great outdoor seating. This is off the 5^th avenue circus, so it’s perfect when decompressing from NY winters.
I order the Thai Atun (Thai tuna) with no added salt and a mediocre glass of wine and am entertained by how my Italian waiter keeps calling me lady. Yes lady, of course lady… plus he humours me with my bad Spanish. At any rate he asks, «hey lady how is the tuna?» To which I reply, «it’s very good, thank the chef for the no salt, but I have to say it’s not a Thai dish.»
«Lady, what do you mean? The sauce is balsamic vinegar and cherries, of course it’s a Thai dish!» Literally??? …no words. I just choked back laughter and thanked him. Left a huge tip. Love this place. It’s like the staff from Three’s Company are your waiters.

I was in Italy 3 months ago and loved the pizza there. I never expected to have such amazing Italian pizza in Mexico, but I did, and I’m glad I went. Highly recommended!!!

La pizza y la cerveza son amigas, parece que se hicieron juntas para acompañarse una eternidad y también parece que fueron presentadas en La Piola.
Lo ideal es ir un viernes, ver el dueto que canta estupendamente bien, pedir unas cervezas y cuando estés listo, zas, la pizza, con eso ya tienes hecho el fin de semana.
El lugar es bonito, me gusta más de noche pues la iluminación es especialmente linda, la atención es de primera y los precios, pues son muy de la Quinta Avenida, tal cual.

Wir sind hier mit einem Shuttlebus vorbeigefahren und waren sofort verliebt. Und nach sehr langem Suchen, sind wir dann zufällig drauf gestoßen. Welche Freude.
Am Abend haben wir den langen Weg auf uns genommen und waren wieder begeistert.
Das Lokal ist von Palmen und Bäumen umgeben und diese sind mit Lichterketten verziehrt. Es gibt einen kleinen ‘Bach’ und mit den Lichtern und Farben im Lokal macht es eine wunderschöné Stimmung.
Das Essen war der Wahnsinn und der Mojito auch. Die Kellnerin war auch superfreundlich und konnte auch Englisch.
Dann waren wir vom Strand kurz auf einer Kaffeepause, und auch das war richtig gut. Endlich guter europäischer Kaffee!!!
Ich kann nur sagen: HINGEHEN! HINGEHEN UND HINGEHEN!!!

Una vez llegamos aqui por accidente, teníamos muchísima hambre y la verdad es que la fachada de este lugar tenía algo seductor. Ni si quiera sabíamos que tiempo de comida era. No fue hasta que nos sentamos y pedimos la carta que nos dimos cuenta de que era comida italiana, y pensamos «espero que no sean las típicas pizzas de siempre «pedimos un par de pizzas y unas limonadas, cuando llego el platillo recién sacado del horno, no les voy a mentir, se nos hizo agua la boca, en contra de nuestras expectativas la comida estuvo bastante buena, y bueno por el precio mas les valía tener calidad, pero valió la pena. Además nos dejaron pagar con American Express que siempre es muy cómodo que te acepten cualquier tarjeta. Nos atendieron súper rápido porque además les dijimos que teníamos prisa y lo respetaron. La Piola es un restaurante muy bien conceptualizado que va más allá de la cocina, se va a la experiencia del cliente. Recomendado.

De las cosas que mas me llaman la atención a la hora de ir a algún lugar a comer o cenar es su diseño y la Piola es de esos lugares con diseños tanto en el interior como el exterior que son únicos y que te seducen a pasar y quedarte ahi por un buen rato. La iluminación, el decorado, los colores, todo llevar total congruencia con e estilo y queda perfecto para la locación y la zona en la cual esta ubicada porque se mezcla con el ambiente selvático y le da un toque aún más vivo.
Su menú es de los más exquisitos, especialidad italiana a su más alto esplendor. Aunque yo normalmente he ido unas cuantas veces porque los mojitos al igual que los martinis son de lo mejor que he probado en varios lugares. Su variedad de pizzas crujientes a la leña, las ensaladas fusion tropical y toque dulce son una exquisites al paladar. La pasta y la lasagna aún no he tenido el placer de probar pero con eso ya tengo un pretexto más para visitar en mi proximo viaje a Playa del Carmen.

I was really looking forward to this place. We should have probably known that the food wasn’t going to be all that cause the menu was HUGE. I was really craving lasagna so I ordered the meat lasagna. My hubby ordered spaghetti carbonara. The lasagna was pretty much ground beef between a thin layer of pasta, layered with more meat and then topped with meat and a little sauce and not completely melted cheese. It was pretty much just meat, no sauce no cheese… after a few bites I was done. The spaghetti carbonates was loaded with cream (not really carbonara, no eggs and the bacon was strange). The portions were huge and I got a small portion. They should focus on specific menu items and make those really good and offer smaller more quality portions.

Buenisssimooo!!! Piola es un lugar totalmente fuera de serie, esta increíble la decoración y el ambiente en este restaurante. Los colores que tiene Piola en su establecimiento son tremendos.
La comida italiana hoy en día en Playa es muy común y puedes encontrarla en casi cualquier parte de la ciudad, pero Piola, es sin duda una manera más creativa de darle gusto a tu paladar, sintiéndote parte de una película con tus amigos o familia que sin duda lo agradecerán infinitamente.
La menú no es sorprendente, pero el sabor de lo que te ofrecen es delicioso, ademas de una buena atención, la selección musical es poco atractiva pero no es molesta. Los precios son moderados si tomas en cuenta el sabor y lo satisfecho que estarás al comer aquí.
Los alrededores de este restaurante son increíbles, con ese ambiente bohemio chic playense.

Soy una amante de la cocina más famosa del mundo, la comida italiana. No es porque me llame Francesca Georgia Franchini Maestri, no. Si no porque el sabor de una buena pizza o una pasta fresca no tiene precio, bueno, sí y algunos muy altos.
Me recomendaron un restaurante ubicado en una de las calles más hermosa de Playa del Carmen, la treinta y ocho. Es fácil de reconocer porque es rojo y esta en la esquinita.
La carta que ofrecen es bastante amplia, siendo difícil qué delicia elegir. Pedí una exquisita pizza de vegetales, por los que todavía no me han leído (LÉANME… BROMA) soy súper vegetariana. La pizza está hecha en un horno a la leña, que le da el sabor propio de la que comes en Italia.
La terraza es hermosa, muy bien iluminada y árboles a tu alrededor. La atención es muy rápida y amigable. Además, de su excelente sabor y por lo que se gana todas las estrellitas, es que están a muy buen precio para la gran calidad que entregan.

Si ya te salió la duda y estás leyendo esta reseña para saber si vas a Piola, debes saber que el mojito de albahaca es el trago estrella, es un sabor mágico. ¡Pídelo sin dudarlo, vale totalmente la pena, en precio, calidad y todo!
Lo segundo que necesitas saber es que Piola para mi gusto, es de los mejores restaurantes italianos y a muy buen precio. No es económico, no te emociones, pero nada excesivo y lo vale, es exqusito. Las pizzas son lo máximo, la de jamón serrano no tiene abuela, pedazo a pedazo es un manjar. Y los postres también son deliciosos.
Su ubicación es lo que termina por darle el toque final. No está en plena quinta avenida, está a una cuadrita yendo hacia la playa, sobre la 28. Entre arbolitos, ramas y el buen gusto con el que está decorado el restaurante, terminan por ser una cadena de detalles que indudablemente harán que salgas feliz de allí.
Se puede pagar como quieras y el servicio es excepcional, ¡vuelvo sin pensarlo!

Como sería muy extenso repasar los platillos del menú de este lugar, nos vamos directamente «al grano»: aquí hay que llegar y pedir una copa de vino y una pizza Margarita. Así de fácil. Sabemos que la pizza Margarita hay en todo Playa del Carmen, pero la de La Piola es muy superior a cualquiera que yo haya probado. Ahora que si lo que quieres es «echarte unos drinks», la barra es enorme y muy variada. La gente que se encarga del servicio es muy amable y te explican con toda claridad cada uno de los platillos.
En el apartado estético, podría asegurar que está dentro de los 10 lugares mejor decorados de Playa de Carmen. No esperen encontrar algo muy rebuscado ni el típico «minimalismo» abundante. Aquí se han centrado en darle un toque acogedor y juegan muy bien con los colores, las luces y las texturas. De día es mejor afuera y de noche en la parte de adentro. También hay buena música.

La calle 38, perpendicular a la quinta, es una de las calles más bonitas de Playa del Carmen, no tan concurrida como la misma quinta, pero tal vez por eso, algo mejor. En esta calle puedes encontrar verdaderas joyas de la gastronomía, comida griega, cafés franceses y muy importante, esta pizzería: La Piola.
Esta pizzería se destaca del resto por su pizza hecha en horno de piedra, con técnicas artesanales y sobre todo, por sus ingredientes frescos y de alta calidad.
Antes de hablar del extenso menú y de mis recomendaciones personales, debe hacer notar la exquisita decoración del lugar. Yo llamaría al estilo, trattoria moderna a la mitad de la selva. La decoración en rojo con lamparas y luminarias algo excéntricas le dan un toque moderno, estilo Nueva York, y la vegetación aledaña hace lo demás.
Ahora, sobre la comida, vas a tener que tomarte tu tiempo porque la carta es extensa. Las opciones de pasta, entradas y ensaladas son abrumadoras y aun así nada comparadas con las combinaciones de pizzas disponibles.
Quesos de alta calidad: Mozzarella, Roquefort, Parmesano, Brie o queso de cabra. Ingredientes frescos como albahaca, berenjena, perejil, tomates frescos y deshidratados, jamón serrano, huevo cocido o espárragos.
Con una lista así, que por ningún motivo pretende ser extensiva. Si no quieres pizza, aunque no entiendo por qué no, recomiendo los gnocchi al ragú o el spaghetti Sorrento.
De tomar, yo recomiendo un buen vino, pero no dejes de tomar el martini de albahaca como aperitivo, único en la ciudad.
Si queda espacio para el postre, tiramisu, profiteroles o pannacotta. Los clásicos italianos.

Our hotel is pretty close by. Walking distance and to get to 5^th ave, we pass this place. It’s our last night here & our 3^rd pizza. We’ve always taken it back to our hotel since we end up here when we don’t know what to eat and are too lazy to find a place
1^st time; Hawaiian — cheese, pineapple, huge slices of ham on a thin crust! Idk if it’s cause we’re in a different place but the cheese is so good! The pizza is so good and their chili oil makes it even better!
2^nd time; the Mexican — poblano peppers, chorizo = AMAZING!!! Their thin crust really makes a difference and it’s definitely fresh!
3^rd time; Hawaiian. Just cause we know we love it and it was so hot out we just wanted to get back in our AC room (:
Overall. Friendly people. Good prices and amazing pizza. It’s fresh and has lots of flavor and not greasy at all. If you want a great slice of pizza, this is the place to go to!

Nice atmosphere and amazing wood fire pies. I had the Roma pizza and enjoyed every bite. The menu is extensive and very reasonable prices. Fast and friendly service and right by the beach. I highly recommend and I would definitely eat here again.

You feel like you are surrounded by tropical forest, a small cenote, and airy open patio. Nice pizzas, crispy, lots of topping choices. Not crazy about the sausage, a bit too fatty, but we have tried many other combos including the hawaiian (ham, pineapple. serious) but nice peperoni, arugula, mozzarella. We usually also order one of their salads, enough to share, although they got rid of our favorite the Mixta. Busser alwasy spot on with olive oil, balsamic, red pepper flakes and more. After awhile they get to know you. Nice service. and they give you a slice of complimentary bruschetta which is a nice touch. Go on Wednesday for lunch and you will get the full size pizza or salad for the medium size prize.

Really good pizza here. A chewy thin crust with a nice slightly charred crisp on the bottom, pretty perfect. High quality ingredients on top, my only negative would be a little too much oil. My wife had a pasta as well. Looked great and she loved it. I’d probably give this 4.5 stars if they’d let me, definitely a solid 4+ stars.
Didn’t have a kids menu, but its pizza and all kids eat pizza :)

Best pizza in Playa. They have a huge clay oven in the back that fires up properly charred thin crusts.
They go easy on the sauce so their best pies have a lot of toppings. The pastorella is my favorite, but with the habanero sauce it may not be for every palette! The maialina is a meaty bounty, and the Roma, while unusual with the purple garlic and lime drops, is quite satisfying.
There’s two sizes for pizzas, and most smalls (10-​inch) are around 100 – 115 pesos, with the larges (16-​inch) topping 200 pesos. Even if you’re famished, a small could accommodate two people. They give you a free bruschetta when you sit down, so that is usually enough to satisfy!
Also, basil margaritas.
