One of the best meals in playa! Came here for lunch and I was very impressed! The décor of this place is very welcoming and pleasant. Ordered the red lemonade(strawberry, watermelon and mint I believe) it was blended and refreshing. For my entrée I ordered the Parmesan chicken which was delicious. What is great about this place is that they have combos that are included for free when you done here during lunch hours. You get to choose either a salad or a soup and your entrée and then you get a piece of pie or cake for dessert. Will definitely be back! Oh ya, I forgot the best part. It cost me $ 6 for my meal! That’s unheard of!

On my vacation this year to Playa del Carmen, I went to visit a friend who was living in the city. She promised to take us around town and try to avoid all the touristy traps and restaurants in the area. Located in a little subdivision 4 blocks north of Calle 5(5th avenue) is the amazing Papa Charly’s! This is one of those spots… if your local. you know about it… if your a tourist. you will never know about it(unless a local tells you or you use Unilocal!). Almost an open air concept, the dining room is small and it opens up to the street. The décor has a hipster urban vibe, a big parachute type covering is the ceiling. pillows and wood benches along with wood tables are scattered in the dining area. Chalk boards explain the specials and features. Our friend suggested we try the«Menu Ejecutivo» which was a 3 course meal. We arrived about 30 min before the menu actually started so we just started out with some drinks. Papa Charly’s does not serve alcohol. kinda weird huh? But they do have freshly squeezed juices that they feature. Everything ranging from blends of Pineapple and Watermelon with mint to Hibiscus flower with honey… soo tasty. They also make a pretty damn good Cappuccino as told to me by my father. We finally got to order from the«Menu Ejecutivo»…basically you can choose from a special menu. Your first choice is your starter, soup or salad or a pasta dish…(by the way its not a small appetizer pasta or salad… its a full size meal!!). The next thing you choose is your entrée. no burgers here… we are talking Short ribs on a potato purée and homemade bbq sauce or vegetarian moussaka or how about chicken cordon blu? After plowing through your entrée how about a dessert? Cheesecake, Flan, Apple pie with ice cream. Oh by the way you also get the chosen freshly squeezed juice included to wash it all down! This meal was better than some of the a la carte restaurants at my 5 star resort! The kicker is… all of this was $ 175 pesos including tip… works out to be $ 10 dollars US. The quality of the food was excellent. the presentation.5 star quality. the service and atmosphere… high quality. while maintaining the awesome homey vibe. If you ever in Playa Del Carmen… and your looking for food… forget 5 Calle(5th avenue) Find Papa Charly’s and eat there…5 stars… hands down.

Awesome Argentine-Italian food and amazingly good cappuccinos(I’m very picky about my espresso drinks). Cute«covered patio» dining area and very friendly service. Highly recommended. Definitely worth the short walk off 5th avenue. If I had been in town longer, I would have become a regular.

I totally recommend this Italian restaurant. The service is top notch. This a family run joint and I was treated like family. We were a party of 11. Also you have to taste the coffee.

Delicious handcrafted pasta. I had the fettuccine with four cheese sauce and shrimp. The pasta itself was perfectly chewy and tasty. The sauce was very rich and cheesy, of course. The shrimp were not needed, to be honest. Husband had the salmon ravioli with aurora sauce; both the sauce and pasta were so-so, would probably recommend almost anything else over that. Saw some cannelloni on the next table over that looked to-die-for. Also must add the caprese salad if you go, great fresh starter! Reasonably priced, we paid approximately $ 38USD for the 2 meals, salad, 2 glasses of wine, and 2 beers. Highly recommend.

This place is great! It’s a little out of the way which makes it feel special. A family run restaurant with great Italian food — a perfect break from guacamole and ceviche. We had a tomato and mozzarella salad, two pastas and bottle of house red, all great. It would be one of my locals if I lived here

No one does Cannelloni like Papa Charlie’s! Nice outside dinning, great service! Friendly neighborhood restaurant that is out of the tourist frenzy! Don’t miss eating here while in Playa!

Delicious hand made pasta in a cute restaurant. Just by the name I wouldn’t have thought to go here. The name sounds like a chain restaurant in the US with fast cheap food. This could be no further from the truth. I’m glad I actually took time to read some reviews rather than immediately passing over it. It is located on 25th ave and 30th. The front with seating area is facing 30th. It is a small place with 4 tables outdoor seating. The tables accommodate parties up to 4 or 6. The night we were there was a mon and only 1 other couple. The menu was a little confusing at first but basically you choose your pasta which is on one side(look at the whole chart. I didn’t and missed out on several options) and then choose your sauce which is on the other side. The appetizer and desert are not on the menu. For appetizer you can choose either Caprese or Caesar salad. We chose the Caprese and just check out the pic. It’s huge and very good. My husband who is very critical of this dish wherever we go said that it was very good. To him it’s all about the mozzarella & he said their mozzarella was right. I ordered the spinach ravioli in the fungi sauce and he ordered the spinach and ricotta cannelloni which only comes in the pomodoro. We both thought are dishes were very good. There is something about hand made pasta that is so good. This was very fresh food. I believe it is made to order. We were both full & had no room for desert but we ordered the cheesecake to go. That was a good decision. It is one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had. The service was perfect. It was actually the cook who served us. I’m not sure but it is likely that she is the owner. She spoke very little English but we got along okay with my little spanish. Our bill was $ 440 pesos for two mineral waters, Appetizer, 2 entrees and dessert. That comes out to $ 35US which is a great deal. We will definitely be returning & I will pass it along to my friends & family who are visiting soon as I know they will love it too.

A solid Italian joint run by an Argentinian family who renamed the place from«Util» when the namesake«Papa Charly» passed away a few years back. It’s a cute little restaurant with just a few tables in a courtyard setting. The menu is a giant grid that allows you to pair up each pasta with your favorite sauce. Everything’s cheap, tasty and oh so filling. When you order a salad it’s served family style, so don’t worry about filling up too much before your pasta arrives. The spinach and Ricotta ravioli with arrabbiata sauce was spot on. If you don’t get wine you can easily get out for 200 pesos a person.
