Excellente! The tortilla soup and mole poblano were perfect! Quick and friendly service and a treasonable price.

Its a lively restaurant with many private rooms to dine and big sitting space. The dishes are authentic and the menu changes frequently. Its one if the best Mexican restaurant in DF. Its pricey but the service is good. The staff is polite and suggests other options to choose. There are vegetarian dishes too. The location is good also and the ambience is awesome. There is a paid photographer and mariachis too! Loved it!!!

Oh my I wish I had the chance to eat here again! Everything was tasty and cooked just right. We ordered tapas style. There are saying all over the walls and bathroom which only make you laugh. Duo de Queso Fundido Rollitos de Plátano Macho con Tortilla Maíz Margarita de Tamarindo Postre de las Monjitas Silvadoras Helado de Mamey *My only complaint is the Cubierto which is a «service charge» for cutlery, linens, furniture… etc. I would have never expected this from a restaurant of this caliber. This is something that was common in the 50’s but times have changed and it was the first time I’ve ever seen such a fee. Thankfully we knew a local that told us if they charge you then you lower the tip. Which sucks for the wait staff because it’s more than one person waiting on you.

I went to Villa Maria with a big group for a business dinner. It’s a huge restaurant with many rooms and two floors. There were a lot of signs on the walls in Spanish that were apparently funny sayings. It seems like a place that caters to big groups as I saw many such groups. We were seated at a big round table upstairs on a semi-enclosed porch. It was nice setting. Based on the recommendation of someone else in our party, I started with a ginger margarita. I wasn’t too impressed. I have to first say that during my visit to Mexico City, I’d gotten used to mostly drinking tequila and mezcal straight up or having margaritas on the rocks. The ginger margarita was frozen. It tasted fine, pretty strong on the ginger(which I like), but not really what I wanted. Later in the meal, someone ordered me a tamarindo margarita, which again, was interesting for the tamarind, but not my favorite margarita. I’ve never seen margaritas in the US with these types of flavors; usually just sweeter things. For appetizers, the group insisted that I had to try to ‘traditional’ Mexican specialties — gusanos(I think that’s the correct word, fried maguey worms, the ones you find in mezcal) and escamoles(ant eggs). The worms were crunchy and not squishy inside, like you might fear. They were good dipped in guacamole. You just have to get over the fact that you’re putting a caterpillar in your mouth! Similarly, the escamoles were very tame to eat. You roll them up in a tortilla, optionally with some salsa. They are kind of creamy and have a cheese taste. I enjoyed both of these specialties. They weren’t exactly on my wish list but I’m an adventurous eater and glad I had them. For my entrée, I order cochinita pibil(achiote marinated porked baked in a banana leave). It was very good but not quite as tender as I’ve had before. It was shredded so I’m guessing it was cooked in large batches, then shredded and reheated for individual servings. At other restaurants in Austin, it’s typically large chunks of pork that you shred yourself. At any rate, I enjoyed it enough to finish it off in a couple of tacos! To finish, I ordered flan de queso. This was not a creamy flan but was kind of crumbly because of the addition of cheese. It was excellent. I also had a café de olla. I didn’t pay so I can’t say anything about the price. The service was very good. We also had some mariachi entertainment. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal at Villa Maria.

I had heard good things about this place. It is beautifully decorated and easy to get to if you’re staying in one of the hotels in Polanco. However if you want to eat decent food, skip this place. I came with two other people and we all ordered different plates. One of us ordered some seabass which was passable. The second person ordered the arrechera and she was disappointed. I ordered Pulpo y Camarones al ajillo(shrimp and octopus– they had this translated wrong on the English menu). My plate came with 2 shrimps. Exactly 2! It would have been fine except the mushrooms on the dish hadn’t been washed. I had mouthful full of dirt. Gross. I got over that and we ordered churros. They brought them in this really nice tree thing and I thought this was their way to redeem themselves. Wrong! We barely took the churros off the display and the waiter took away the plate. They should buy more China if they have to take it away from customers who are still eating! They cleared our table incredibly fast but took 20 minutes with the bill and couldn’t even split it. Terrible service, nasty food, and ridiculous prices. I would recommend Bajío instead.

Great Place for Mexican food. We went on a Sunday at 5pm. Got a table right away. Drinks were large, top shelf to choose from. What we ordered we clean the plate.

Everytime a foreigner asks me where to go have a nice Mexican meal, I tell them to go to Villa Maria. The place is in a very nice area, Polanco, nearby some shopping options, parks, etc. The atmosphere is what foreigners may expect of Mexico(fun, fiesta, music, colors, tequila) but without overdoing it — I love the phrases in the walls. Food is very good, many Mexican specialties with a hint of international flavor, drinks are excellent(good tequila list) and sometimes there might be a mariachi band playing. Prices are a bit high but average for the area. Great appetizers like guacamole and queso fundido and main courses(especially the arrachera meat). Good for groups and even families on weekends, but watch out for suits getting drunk and partying loud during the week.

Busy place with bustle; sombreros singing and playing instruments. Good stuff! Tortilla soup had different flavour than I have had from any tortilla soup in the past.

Truly exceptionally terrible food. Ice cold chile rellenos sent back; street tacos so much better than their starter medly. Squash blossom soup had no visible veggies and coagulation. Service very junior with waiters reaching in front of you, etc. Only good were huge margaritas and lively mariachis.

We were a table of 9 and ate on a Tuesday night but relatively early. We ordered numerous appetizers to split. All were good! I would them all again but note the seafood one is I loved the two queso, the seafood variety, fresh made guacamole, and the arranchiera tacos. But they were filling. So, for my entrée, I only got the black bean soup. It was delicious and I would order it again. It was thin and pouted over some other ingredients like avocado and cheese crunchy tortilla pieces. For dessert I had the caramel Crepes with coconut. It was incredibly sweet and I loved it. I will order it again next time!!! The service was outstanding. We sat in the room to the left of the entrance and the TV was on showing the World Cup highlights from earlier in the day. The TV was interesting but not intrusive. The ceilings are high and the place feels light and airy. Last time I was there, there was a professional mariachi band.
