I love this market. It is next to my house and I go every week. On Saturday’s its more clothes, electronics, shoes, and stuff for yourself. On Sundays, its more food and things for your house. I always can buy good fruits and vegetables on Sunday, and I can find meat and cheeses too. I would say that for a market, it’s more expensive than some others but they have quality items and the location is worth the extra cost.

This is a really solid weekly market, particularly if you’re looking for fresh produce. Many of the vendors at la Madre are also at other markets throughout the city on different days of the week. However, as a working professional, I have a hard time getting to those other markets, such as the one in Condesa, which is open on Tuesdays. Anyway, if you go to la Madre on a regular basis, the vendors will get to know and expect your. Many of them will anticipate your desires, and though they occasionally encourage you to try new items, they always have what you’re looking for. Beyond the produce, there is some really good fresh juice being sold, and the candied pralines are to die for. Also, there is a small stand selling marquesitas closer to the«restaurant stands.» I’ve never seen marquesitas sold anywhere else in this part of the country. I’m pretty sure that the cheesy-crêpe-like food is native to Quintana Roo. I don’t even love them, but they’re interesting. Also, it should be mentioned that just across the street, in the same park, are a number of artists selling their paintings every Sunday. One could make a nice Sunday outing by combining a perusal of art and then moving on to the weeks grocery shopping.
