Great service and lots of other menu options aside than pozole. The pozole was delicious. Very affordable dining. I was shocked when I received my bill for the amount of food I ordered.

One of my favorite places to eat while in MxDf — the pozole is delicious. The quesadillas as well(the picadillo [beef] is my go-to) Unos de mis restaurantes favoritos en México D.F. Trata el pozole y las quesadillas — On my way!

This place is huge with 2 floors, and yet it’s packed with locals and tourists. Service is super fast with many waiters. We didn’t have to wait at all for an early Friday dinner with a group of 4. Basic Mexican food is done very well here. Fresh ingredients, plenty of condiments, and cheap cost. Beat that! Got a Pozole, and my mood is much elevated from the long day of traveling. It’s always the right time to dine here. Muy bien~

We went here twice during our 3 day stay in Mexico City and will definitely come back here next time we are in town!!! The place was full even at 10pm on a week day and there were a lot of people waiting outside; however the line moved very quick. Service was top-notch, our waiter was very attentive and took time to explain the menu to us. Everything we ordered here was good — chicken pozole was amazing !!!

A surprisingly tasty and authentic local food. We were visiting from Texas and weren’t expecting the food to be so different from TexMex. Not only the food was great but service was prompt too. Of course, not knowing Spanish was a challenge but the doorman spoke English and they have English menu available on request.

This is the place to eat Pozole if you end in Zona Rosa neighborhood, a not recommended area of Mexico City. Don´t think about it and eat the Pozole. I had the vegetarian pozole, with corn. Extra avocado and cream. Yummy. It ain’t fancy or pretentious, the opposite. Cheap, genuine. Keep Calm and Eat Pozole.

This spot came highly recommended when I was searching for restaurants while visiting Mexico City. I’m so glad I came across this place — so much so, I came back a second time! I would describe the ambiance as a Mexican-style diner. You’re given a sheet in which you fill out what you want. If your Spanish skills are lacking, be sure to ask for an English menu, which explains everything. On the first visit, I had a small pozole and an order of carne flautas. I highly recommend you try the pozole at least once as it is a very hearty, filling soup — I recommend getting it with maciza(pork). The flautas were incredibly well done, and I absolutely love the cream — it has a certain touch of sweetness that balances everything else out really well. I enjoyed everything so much, I had the same thing on my second visit, except I tried the flautas combo — one each of carne, potato, and chicken. If you’re looking for an authentic, local experience, this is one not to be missed.

Potato flauta was amazing, Pozole was decent, arroz con leche was pretty good as well. Give it a try, cheap prices for a good amount of food. The place was packed, so you might have to wait 10 – 15 minutes but they are super quick with service so turnaround is fast.

Place was very busy but still easy enough to get into. I know very little Spanish so I asked for the English menu. Ordered the pozole with the pig head and 2 coronas. Was absolutely delicious. I’ve never had pig head before and have to say I was quite impressed. The meal came with a few fried tortillas and 4 types of salsa. The total bill was $ 100 pesos witch is a little less than $ 6US dollars. Have to say it was one of the best bang for you buck meals I’ve ever had.

I was very anxious to try this place out on my first visit out to Mexico City. First of all the name, you do not bear restaurants with the name«toño» that often so that was a good sign. As soon as you arrive you hear the thumping of the music around the busy street where the restaurant is located; which is a treat. When you get outside you take a number to be seated«good sign of good food» once you are called you sit down and the order is taken very fast. The food is very quickly served and is extremely well served and delicious. I had a bit of everything and I can confidently say that the cochinita tacos and posole are the best things on the menu. So not forget to get your michelada!!!

¡Y a todas horas!

We came to this place as it came highly recommended by a friend. We’re so glad that this branch is so close to our hotel. It was a short 5mins walk. There were too many choices. It took us a while to figure out what we wanted. Plus, our limited Spanish was a bit of a roadblock. Fortunately, somebody had the great idea to finally bring us the English menu. And the supervisor, who spoke a bit of English, helped us finalize our order. We were impressed with the tasty Pozole. I’ve never had one before. But I’m sure to add this to my list of favorite Mexican dishes. The quesadilla Pata was exeptional. It was not the usual Quesadilla you get from the Mexican restos back in the California. Their quesadilla version was fried and was filled with a very tasty blend of tender meat and sauce. They also offered an unlimited option of sauces, which had a varying level of spiciness. The kids loved both dishes. We wanted to try the crispy chicharron, but we’re too stuffed. Hopefully we can go back next time. We came out of that place with a $ 20usd bill and stuffed! So worth it!

My first visit to Mexico City I went to a different location of theirs which I fell in love with. Their carne de bistec sopes were my absolute favorite. I’m not sure if they changed locations or this is another one of their chain of restaurants but this time around we came to this location and their sopes were runny, not a lot of meat. I did like their quesadillas w/chicken though. Their prices here are very good, nice & cheap but quality wise. I wasn’t the happiest as It was my first visit.

For a city that does not sleep, this place is a great find for a 24⁄7 eating establishment. We did not struggle to find this place with their green awning draped over the restaurant. As many people here have already pointed out, the thing to definitely get is the pozole. I have tried making pozole at home here in the US, but there’s something of it being from Mexico is much better. Perhaps it’s because I can’t buy cabeza(head) at my grocery store, but they have probably been making that broth for days. The hominy was the right texture, a very rich broth, cabeza, and all the right pozole fixings. A pozole grande is a very good size too, and for about 48 pesos, what a great price! We also got a tostada, which we found to be not bad. As some food in Mexico, there is mayo and cheese on it, which can be quite seemingly unhealthy, but always delicious! For drinks, we got horchata, which is always a win in Mexico. I do not know why it is not more prevalent in the United States, but was a great sweet final note to a great meal. Yes, speaking Spanish will get you far here, as we only spoke Spanish to the waiter and servers. The menu is not in English, or at least there was not an English menu provided to us, but I am sure they have one for how many English reviews were written here. Also, at the end of the meal, they will give you a little feedback sheet, where you can rate the service. Nos gusta La Casa de Toño!

An Institution — Period. Side Note — This place is not a fine dining, set menu spot so it does not make sense to compare(as I’ve see some other Unilocal reviewers do) Get a Grip, haha. Of my 5 days in D.F. this was the ONLY place I made the time to visit a second time. Fads and food trends come and go. This spot is known for thier Pozole and it’s special. The broth is definitely delicious. Sprinkle a little of the dry pepper and chili that is already table side before sitting down & wow what a solid meal! There is a downstairs and upstairs. Depending on the time of day you may have to pull a number and check in. Possibly wait 5 — 10 minutes. First time, downstairs on a very rainy evening. Second time, upstairs on a dry, sunny afternoon. Both times very consistent and such a great value. Service is quick, and you can always get additional service by providing a polite holler or a raising of the hand. This location is open 24⁄7.

I’ve been here twice in the past week. I think the pozole is very good, maybe not great, but very good. I like putting avocado in it, as well. Grandma’s flan is superb! Yum, yum! Now that is worth five stars ! Service staff works really fast. They don’t always understand my Spanish; so it helps to know the language. You will need to fill out an order form at the table– so be prepared. They also give a form for you to rate the service after the meal– Both of these forms are in Spanish. My two years of Spanish study in school helped.

In discovering what pozole can be I was told THE place for Pozole– La Casa de Tono. This is VERY very true. Not only pozole, but the quesadillas also are amazing, but the overall package is the true merit to this establishment. Ordering from a long list of variety choices to satisfy any appetite, service that is mega fast and courteous, as well as seeing the number of customers that come in while you are there, and seeing that the speedy service is top notch all add to the quality this restaurant offers. Nestled in the heart of Zona Rosa, this is one true establishment worth the visit and not just once!

Fantastic local spot in Roma Norte where the food does not disappoint! We found this restaurant via some blogs about D.F., so we thought we’d give it a go. We had the pozole with shredded chicken to start. The pozole was comforting and hearty, offering plenty for the portion. We followed it up with the tacos al pastor, which were juicy and came with all the accompaniments of authentic Mexican tacos i.e. salsa verde, salsa roja, and cebollas y habaneros. The meal as a whole was the most delicious one that we had during our trip to D.F., and it was also one of the cheapest meals we had, even though we ate copious amounts of food and drank multiple beers. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Mexico City, but more than that, I recommend this restaurant to anyone who lives in Mexico City!

SOOO of good! It’s traditional food at its best. This place is known for Pozale, a hearty Mexican stew traditionally made with pork — this one was with chicken. There is also hominy and has a red color bc of the chiles used for the soup base. It is served alongside shredded cabbage, onion, radishes, lime, oregano, salsas, sour cream and tostadas. Soooo good! RECOMMENDED: — Quesadillas de hongos, pollo, queso(hongo y queso my fav) — Tacos de cochinita — Sope de tinga ALLEXCELLENT!!! Very tasty, beautifully flavored, and tasted like it was from grandma’s kitchen. Even though all of the dishes we ordered were VERYGOOD, my favorite was grandma’s flan(FLANDEABUELA) — just off the chain sooooooo good!!! I really think it was grandma who made it! The flautas were just okay. The other big plus about this place is that it’s SUPERCHEAP!!! It’s a must go to if you’re near one!

I could only find this restaurant due to all the reviews in Unilocal. It was my first night in Mexico City and I was looking for options of local cuisine in a walking distance from the hotel. So a few blocks there is this small restaurant, packed with locals and some tourists trying their specialty: pozole, a soup with corn and pork. As someone only used to having Americanized Mexican food, I asked some explanations of the dishes and the waiter kindly brought a menu in English. I ordered a small pozole and also sope since I was starving. The dishes were quickly brought together with some bowls of salsas in different flavors. All dishes were very tasty and price-wise very cheap. Very good option in the area if you want to try something genuinely Mexican.

If you are traveling to mexico city you must stop by casa de Toño. They got one of the tastiest pozoles that I’ve ever tried. it is smooth and it has the right amount of spice. You have to get a large portion. The chicharron sope is also out of this world! It is huge and it comes with bean spread, crema and fresh cheese but you can ask for everything separately if you prefer. The salsas are a good add on. I wish I could find this in NJ. Can’t stop the madness of craving this pozole! One big plus the service. They have a good system, you write what you want on a checklist and then tour server picks it up and brings your food in less than 10 minutes. The waiters are respectful and efficient. Now be prepared to wait in line in some instances. It’s that amazing. Lastly order the flan if you are into it. It’s absolutely delicious. Go there and enjoy!

Great place for an authentic Mexican meal. It is very big so you won’t have to wait for a table, or won’t have to wait too long. There are many servers which makes it easy for quick order and quick service. They are known for their pozole. It is very good. I usually go for one without meat because there are so many other favors to the soup as it is. They also have quesadillas, sopes, tortas, tacos, etc. to choose from. I had a picadillo quesadilla on the side of my pozole, which was cooked well and had a nice flavor. To finish off, I had a beer with my meal. The whole thing came out to 100 pesos and that includes tip. I will take any tourists here for a chance to try a traditional meal.

Wowza! Two locals recommended this place for dinner. I figured it was a safe and yummy place for an American non-Spanish speaking person. This place did not disappoint. I was a little intimidated by the wait and«take a number» line. How does 807 sound in Spanish?! But after a 15 minute wait(not bad and totally worth it) I was #07. The menu is simple and superb. I went with Unilocal recommendations of pollo pozole, and flautas surtidas(chicken, beef, potato). I wish I had room for dessert but next time! I was really impressed by the quality of food. Nothing was too greasy and the meat seemed really lean, all white chicken. The waiters are really friendly and even though it’s busy they make you feel welcome and not rushed. Enjoy the American 80s music too!

Mexico City is our last destination in Mexico and we were not impressed by the food in Cancun nor in Playa del Carmen earlier. How wrong were we! This place has amazing food and the price is sooo cheap! They are famous for their pozole and you see one in every table. But what I realli love is the tostadas tinga(stringed beef with onions). Everything just goes so well in your month, the cabbage, the cheese, the meat and even the beans(I do not like beans but I cannot even tell they are there). Sopes cochinita(spicy slow-roasted pork) is also wonderful and it’s big. Quesadillas is fried here but it’s what you get in Mexico, not the soft cheesy American kind. You cannot miss Flan! We ordered Flan de la Abuela and it’s the best I ever had. Even the waiter informed us we probably ordered too much food… but we wanted to try and the total is only 220 peso(including one beverage and two beers)!!! It’s open 24 hours but usually a line waiting on weekends. We went back before leaving and there were like 20 people outside waiting at 4pm on a Saturday, so if you don’t like to wait, pick a unusual time to go :)
