«Great Stay in Zona Rosa» After doing extensive research for a 1 week getaway for me and my wife, I choose Amberes Suites. I’m glad I did. Rooms: Kitchen/Dining: A true suite with more than enough space for a couple. There’s a small kitchenette equipped with a fridge, microwave, stove top, and coffee machine. The circular dining table is set up for 4 and there’s a bar seating area for 3. Living Room: A TV, old sofa, old chair, and a rectangular bar height glass table seem to just fill the space instead of adding real usability. We sat here maybe once or twice, due to the worn sofa cushions and bad placement of the TV to the sofa. A balcony faces the street and gives you a view of the wild nightlife down below. Bedroom: The bedroom is a decent size with a king bed and 4 plump pillows and a harder than average mattress. There’s about 8 hangers, a safe, old drawers that opened with great difficulty, TV, and a large vanity. The air-condition worked just great and sleep was fine as long as we played our soothing sleep apps or the Zen music station from the cable TV to mask the horrendous karaōke from across the street. Also be aware of the sheer curtains, since when I peeked out the window I could easily make out the neighbors in the suite across from us. Restaurant: Free breakfast is provided. The waiters greet you with a small plate of watermelon, cantaloupe, and melon — a refreshing way to start the day. Coffee and orange juice soon follows. Most of the time a passed pastry tray would be served. The menu consists of egg dishes and Mexican and American staples. Just about everything we tried was good. The chicken enchilada in green sauce and the egg tacos with chicharon were some of the more memorable dishes. We tipped $ 40 pesos each time but the free breakfast dishes were valued at $ 50 pesos each, so we really over tipped but the entire crew was super eager to serve us. Front Desk/Room Service/Bell Hops: Service was across the board solid. Most everyone had trouble with English but loved that we tried to get by with Spanglish and hand gestures. Rooms service was great and they took care of a clogged toilet in a jiffy. We also tipped about $ 40 pesos a day. We loved Luis the bell hop, Felix at the security desk, and Marco in the restaurant the best. Location: Let’s see — you are about 2 blocks away from Insurgentes Metro station.(Definitely use it — at $ 5 pesos a ticket — the cheapest way to get around town.) You have a 24 hour ATM just around the block.(Very safe, there’s usually a policeman in sight distance from this spot.) There are a number of nearby 7-Elevens and K convenience stores for you to load up on bottled water, booze and snacks. You have dozens of restaurants at your doorstep. Our favorites include La Casa de Tona(super casual and cheap — the best Pozole in town, open 24 hours), La Casa de Los Abuelos(open ’til late, family restaurant, Mexican classics), Hamburguesas al Carbon(literally across the street, greasy good $ 3 burgers) and Los Bisquets Obregon for the best biscuits and tortilla soup. You are also walking distance(15 minutes) to the bohemian and artsy La Roma and Condesa areas and only 2 subway stops away from the must-see Chapultepec Park area. The downtown/Zocalo area is 5 subway stops away. So all in all you have a central base of operations. Just remember that this is Zona Rosa — gay nightlife capital of Mexico City. The karaōke bar across the street is loud every night. But even at 4AM in the morning we felt safe walking around the neighborhood. There’s plenty of police to keep the peace.(If only they could stop some of the bad karaōke singers…) Taxi: Since we arrived and left on a Sunday we had to pay for our transportation to and from the airport. Expect to pay $ 250 pesos each way. The trip is about 35 – 40 minutes, 25 minutes without traffic. So if you are looking for a central location in Mexico City, don’t mind a vibrant nightlife noise, and don’t want to spend a fortune — this is the place.

Got here at night. The tried to put us in the front section, which had a nosy disco. Eventually we got a very nice room facing away from the front. It was a very large suite. It was quite and comfortable, loaded with equipment and great Internet. Very friendly and cooperative staff. The only downside was the breakfast which came with the room. It was nothing special. Further each day of our stay the dropped an item(went cheep on us). Until we complained loudly at reception, and from then on we had a nice(not great) breakfast. Work it for the hotel — great quality for the price. Could have stayed there for a month.

This place exceeded our expectations. The room was far larger then anything we would get in the States for a one bedroom. The staff were very helpful and spoke enough English. The place was very clean. Nice patio. Bed was a little hard for my boyfriend but I slept very well on it. The included breakfast was quite nice. The mandarin orange juice was delicious! I highly recommend this place as it is very good bang for the buck. It cost us about $ 30 for 2 by Sitio 300 taxi from the airport. We felt safe walking around at night and this place is accessible to the metro. We would stay here again.
