Hacienda del Mar

Been to Cabo six times and this time we brought our toddler with us & had a wonderful vacation. Hacienda is on a gorgeous property. We went in Jan so the weather was perfect 79 – 82 all week. We saw tons of whales breaching from our ocean view balcony, so amazing !!
Every night, my daughter and I would unwind and take a jacuzzi bath on the balcony. We went to Mega and Walmart & made our own meals for breakfast and lunch. Went down town for tacos and lobster. Yum! The food at hacienda was very expensive but tasty. The cactus spa was nice but my massage was just ok. I don’t think I would go back.
We had 7 pools to choose from. The kiddy pool was fun, but we loved the infinity pool the best! We swam in the ocean but warning I don’t advise you to swim in the ocean if you aren’t an experienced swimmer. Tide is very strong and it pulled me in a couple times!
I could make this a yearly vacation! One of the nicest places that we have ever stayed in Cabo. The location is perfect. I have noticed that the hotels near «the arc» like pueblo Bonita, etc are more for the single people looking to party and dance like twenties. And the sea of Cortez is more for honeymooners, thirty’s and up, family trips, children, older. There is definitely no night life here which I was ok with. I did laundry at 10 pm and by the time I walked out I was scared it was so quiet and dead. The water is just breathtaking on the sea of Cortez side. An ombré of different hues of turquoise, Aqua, blue, light blue. Just gorgeous. The only complaint I have is the wifi is very bad!!! It is choppy and not consistent.
We will def return !

I own two time shares at this place. Recently there has been a change in service and they are horrible. They promise free use of gym and pool facilities year round as a perk of ownership but when you try and use it claim they have no idea what you talking about. Beatriz cedillo and Rolando pech are poor examples of how to treat a client. Very disappointed that the hacienda DEL mar has down scaled their service commitment so greatly. Don’t buy a time share here!

Clobbered all day with time share sales people bothering you and bombarding everyone with pressure sales, all this on a semi attractive Sheraton property getting old in the teeth. There are easily over 100 other properties that offer a much better and far more pleasant experience. We have been owners for over ten years and the service has gone downhill considerably in the past few yeas. Always getting hit up for an upgrade or additional weeks. Try to get a reservation even a year in advance — and all you get is a runaround. Never again!

Beautiful resort. Get a room with a backyard instead of an ocean view. Trust me. It is so much better. Large grounds and plenty of pools. The swim up bar pool is the best and usually the least crowded. I had an amazing time in Cabo and the resort was extremely clean. The staff was also great. All inclusive is worth the money.

Beautiful property. Many pools to swim and wade in that look right out to the beach where you can watch whales breaching during the winter season. Spectacular! There is also some really wonderful snorkeling right off of this beach in front of the property. Be careful to find a calmer spot to get into the water as the pull can be very strong in some areas. But if you catch it at a calm time, you’ll be amazed by all the different kinds of fish right there in the reefs.
Our room was also very comfortable and the kitchen was well amended. Would definitely come back to this beautiful resort if the opportunity presents itself.

My boyfriend and I found this gem through a AAA deal which came with a $ 150 resort food and beverage credit. I’m so glad we chose to stay here rather than somewhere closer to town with a swimmable beach– we rented a wave runner toward the other resorts and hotels on the beaches and it was crazy crowded! The pools were amazing– perfect water temperature, plenty of pools and lounge chairs so you didn’t have to worry about staking your spot out in the early AM, and you get the best of both worlds with the pool behind you to swim in and the lounge chairs overlooking the ocean. I enjoyed feeling more secluded and the grounds itself were beautiful! I loved the look and feel of the grounds/​buildings of the resort.
FOOD:
We ate at the pool bar, sushi bar, Garisoles (for breakfast buffet) and ordered room service while there. The pool bar was good for what we had– drinks and appetizers. The sushi wasn’t amazing and was extremely pricey. Our favorite was the breakfast buffet at Garisoles. We enjoyed it so much that we went twice. It’s not like one would expect a breakfast buffet to be. Waiters actually take your order and prepare your food as ordered from the menu– and since it’s a buffet you can order till your heart is content! Bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary’s also, and the staff was more than pleasant and attentive.
ROOMS:
We chose to upgrade for an ocean view room with a balcony. Our view wasn’t amazing like we had a partially obstructed view of the ocean, but nonetheless we enjoyed the balcony and the obstructed view. Our room was clean with a great shower and water pressure, and a jacuzzi bathtub in the room. I liked that the toilet area was separate from the shower area. The bed was extremely comfortable and gave me no back pain, and my back is very sensitive to mattresses. My only suggestion is that if you’re gonna pay for an upgraded ocean view, you ask that it not be obstructed.
SERVICE and ACCOMMODATIONS:
I’ve never stayed somewhere with such friendly people. The customer service was top notch, as everyone went out of the way to help and accommodate us. They even called for us, to confirm our transportation back to the airport even though it wasn’t through the resort specifically. Also, if you don’t have a rental car, they have a shuttle service to and from the town down in Cabo. They break down rates for the shuttle versus taking a taxi anywhere, and the shuttle is very affordable compared to the taxi. I believe it was $ 8USD round trip per person (compared to $ 9USD one way in a taxi).
Overall, I’d definitely stay here again!

This place is amazing! Service is over the top. Rooms are super comfortable and fully stocked. Food always available. Pools everywhere, including one with a swim up bar. More on the beach. You really don’t need to leave for anything if you don’t want to!
Really enjoyed our stay here. Would love to return!

Very nice resort. Enjoyed the pools. Kids loved the stay last july 2015. We would come back soon.

Stayed in the timeshare presidential suite for 6 days. The suite was very nice and we had a great view of the ocean. I would not recommend coming to cabo in August, the heat is a few degrees from being unbearable. The food was mediocre and without a doubt we have better Mexican food in California. The staff puts on a smiling face. Do the timeshare meeting your first day to get a discount on activities and free breakfast and mimosas but be prepared to sit through a 3 hour meeting/​villa showing, it’s not the «75 minutes» that they will say.
Golfed at cabo del sol ocean course, great course, very well maintained. But once again, the heat made me rush my shots so I could get back in the cart and get shade and a slight breeze from driving.

I have been spending time at HDM as a Vacation Club Member every year since 1994, and have truly enjoyed myself each time. The grounds and pool facilities are maintained to a high degree of cleanliness. The flora is always groomed to show off each plant’s unique beauty. Without exception, the staff has always represented HDM with a high degree of courtesy and professionalism. I have found most Grounds, Maintenance, and Housekeeping staff members are rather stoic until I greet them with my limited Spanish. Then they beam, return with a greeting and a wave. They all seem to give us Gringos our space until we knock on the social door. Then they open up and engage as though we have known each other for years.
I recall our arrival in 2014. We were told at check in that we were the first to arrive after the Odile reopening. Many of the staff were dressed in Día de Muertos costumes, wearing appropriate makeup and standing on all of the balconies surrounding the lobby. Colorful decorations were hung in key locations. When we stepped out of the vehicle, the entire courtyard erupted into cheers and applause. I thought to myself, «This is a nice reception, but I know, you up there on those balconies are the true soldiers, and deserve the applause. You endured the hurricane, facilitated the safe housing of the guests who were on site during that storm. It is I, who applaud you».
Every organization has its positive and negative aspects. I find HDM is no different.
From the negative perspective, I have found that, HDM can (and does) change the deliverable commitments, and there is no recourse for the customer. As the years have passed, it seems each year unveils another non-​deliverable that was promised when I originally agreed to my time share membership. I could list all of the things promised but not delivered, or delivered at one time, but no longer delivered, but it would do no good and I am not interested in creating a pity party situation.
Each year, I am required to attend the member’s breakfast, which the Hostess always states the presentation will take only 1.5hrs and it always takes 3hrs or more. Every year my Sales Agent tells me there is a new VP of Operations at HDM and he is significantly better than the last VP of Operations and things are so much better now than they were in previous years. This message continues to be delivered every year with the same fervor. I find it curious that I never see the same sales agent from one year to the next. As the Sales Agent has no understanding of my experience, I wonder «For whom is the situation «so much better»? I can assure you it is not me. Nothing has improved for me year over any year. The point I make is that all potential time share owners should be aware of this situation. In Espanol, Ten Quidado!
From the positive perspective, upon arrival to the grounds and checking in, I find the rooms are always neatly cleaned and guest ready. The maid service accommodates my out-​of-​the-​room schedule and never pressures me to vacate the room so they may clean. The pool layout is excellent with reclining seating poolside. The beach at this site is 750 yards wide and provides a relatively safe, gradual sandy declining grade as the water depth increases and is one of the best beaches on the Los Cabos corridor. As per normal seasonal conditions, the beach is steep in the winter and becomes more flat by mid-​summer. Aside from the days when an offshore storm has kicked up the swell to a hazardous level (which I have only experienced twice), I am able to swim each morning and afternoon with a departure point in front of the Sheraton hotel. Each morning, I swim North to the Fiesta Americana beach. After lunch I swim South to the cove that lies between the tee box and the green of the 17^th hole of the golf course.
I have never seen a green lifeguard flag flying. I have only seen red or black flags. If memory serves, red means hazardous seas and black means the water is too rough to enter. I believe they fly the red/​black flags to limit their legal liability. Also, I have never been prohibited from entering the water by the lifeguard. I was once chided by the lifeguard for «scaring the guests» (his words) as they watched my return to the beach after swimming out to interact with a whale which was lulling on the surface, just off shore. The waves were walling up and breaking with enthusiasm, but swimmers/​divers who have made peace with the ocean know that waves cyclically approach the shore in sets of seven. This cycle produces the smallest breaking wave every seventh wave. It was that small wave I used to enter and exit the water. I never spoke to the guests who expressed their concern to the lifeguard, but if they had known my strategy, their concern may have been greatly reduced.
In any and every case, I have found this to be a fine vacation venue and look forward to the next time I spend time here.

This resort is great for families, Not a lot to do if you’re looking for late night fun or if you’re single looking to mingle. Cabo is just a short drive, shuttle or taxi ride away.
Stayed in a two bedroom suite with my wife and two kids. Hotel grounds are beautiful and clean. The suite itself was spacious and well appointed. We were in building close to the kids club and i can say I initially expected the noise to carry over our building, but it was surprisingly quiet. I can’t say enough good things about the staff. Every single person there goes out of their way to make you feel on vacation! Everyone was super nice and attentive. Restaurants are good, a little expensive but the views are just breathtaking! We cooked most of our meals but ate a couple of times at Girasoles and Pitahayas.
My only complaint would be the wifi situation. You get 30 mins free, 1 device per day! C’mon it’s 2015!
The timeshare sales are annoying but that goes for the whole area in general. I mean from the moment you step outside the airport, the timeshare wolves are on the hunt! If you already know you’re not interested in any sales presentations, let the front desk know that at check in and they will leave you alone. If your room phone rings at 9am and you’re not expecting any calls, simply don’t answer! it’s probably someone trying to get you to go to a sales presentation. I was grocery shopping at Mega and while standing in line at cashier I was approached by one of these timeshare people and after turning down every offer he had, he offered me $ 600.00 in cash just to attend one of the sale presentations. Tempting! But why bother, I was there to enjoy my time with my family so I declined and went on to continue having a great vacation :)
Overall we had an amazing time and will probably be back after we cross other destinations on our bucket list.
Here’s a few tips to make your trip a great experience.
Need groceries? Go to Mega. You’ll find better prices, better selection of local foods than Costco or Walmart.
Thinking of a rental? I used Alamo and had no problems whatsoever. In my case renting a car was more economical than paying for taxi rides. There were 5 of us and just the shuttle from and to the airport was going to cost over $ 100.00
I made reservation on alamo website and my rate was honored without questions!
Third party liability insurance is a most!!! No way around it. My rate for a midsize was $ 159.00 for a week with TPL and all fees included. I decline CDW and had a letter from credit card company stating they covered that part.
If you’re renting a car, before you leave the US you must download the Here app. It’s a navigation app that allows you to download maps for offline use. That means you don’t worry about phone data use.
Not sure if you should use pesos, dollar or credit card? You will need to use all three and know when to use them.
Use credit cards to pay for lunch or dinners at nice restaurants, or stores where prices are set. You will get a better rate exchange.
Use Pesos to pay for things like parking, tips, little souvenirs or anything that’s negotiable. If you go to the marina and want to do tours you will want to have pesos! A family in front of me got charged $ 40.00 for a private boat tour of the Arches. I paid 400 pesos for the same tour. thats roughly $ 22.00! So don’t be afraid to haggle. Everything is negotiable. Except third party liability ins!
Use dollars to pay for exact amounts. Most places will give you change in pesos and before you know it you’ll realize you got shortchanged!
I hope this review helps others have an amazing time, Not everything will be perfect so don’t let little things ruin your vacation. Bring lots of sunscreen and enjoy your stay.
Stayed July 2015, traveled with family

Quiet, 4 pools, Rude rental car agent atthe Budget counter and these people will hound you for time share or if your married or if your not staying at an all inclusive resort. Lawd… It was most def hot there (because it’s very close to the equator) but over all this was a great vacation.

Stayed here for my boyfriend’s birthday on the owner’s/timeshare side of the resort and not the main hotel part, and although the service was nice, the front desk people at the timeshare/​owners part of the resort were extremely rude and unhelpful, plus it’s always the same unpleasant girl working the front desk. She never leaves. Maybe that’s why she’s so miserable.
Our first night there was terrifying because there was a huge gigantic spider with a really fat round body/​center that was 10x bigger than any other spider I have ever seen in my entire life. It was literally the size of a dinner bread plate. Apparently this is common for Mexico. I frantically called the front desk and they sent a maintenance guy to come kill the huge scary spider. He tried to tell me not to worry and that it’s not a poisonous or deadly spider. Right. I’m sure.
The people working for the time share part of the hotel are really annoying and aggressive, trying to get your credit card and hassle you for a sale. It’s not relaxing whatsoever and puts a damper on the whole vacation because they are so persistent. Another annoying thing about this resort is that they allow the locals to come up to you when you’re laying out on the beach because they want to sell you things like hats, jewelry, trinkets, souvenirs etc. They constantly walk up and down the beach and its nonstop. It’s annoying have to tell someone every 5 minutes «No, not interested. Not buying what you’re selling.»
Food is mediocre and overpriced. I get better Mexican food in Orange County or LA than I do in Mexico. Everything is extremely overpriced and not worth the money. Go to Costco and stock up on stuff because their food sucks here. Especially the TOMATOES restaurant!!! HORRIBLE food and overpriced. DO NOT EAT THERE. Unless you like getting ripped off for garbage food. Drinks are also very overpriced but that’s just how it is at these resorts because they have to make money some how.
On Saturday night, we tried to eat at the steakhouse and the other restaurant under the big hut (can’t remember the name right now) BUT they both shut down the kitchen around 9:30 and close at 10pm! So basically you’re out of luck if you want to find a place to eat after 9:30pm. I would suggest going to Edith’s. It’s amazing and much better food! Only problem is you have to take a shuttle or cab.

We stayed at this resort last year and loved it so much, we decided to come back. Such a BIG disappointment this time around. We booked an ocean front view, but they put us on the ground floor with an obstructed ocean view. We paid extra for ocean FRONT mind you, of course I was upset! We’ve stayed at plenty of resorts to distinguish the difference.
So I called the front desk to see if they made a mistake. Nope, they insisted that our room was ocean front, no apologies and that was it. Really? this was an ocean front? we were at the very end of the resort near Cortez, and the restaurant was blocking our view. so we decided it’s not worth arguing over, we’re on vacation dammit, let’s just try to make the most of it. But then I opened the patio and it’s not enclosed! Couldn’t sit out there to enjoy our obstructed view without worrying the kids might run off. To make matters worst, our room is situated right behind the restaurant where there’s a ledge with a 4−5ft drop. If my kids fell over, they could have been seriously injured. I was so upset they put us in this room knowing we had 2 little ones. So my husband walked up to the front desk, and they still would not budge. Apparently, nothing else was available, but they might be able to move us into a regular garden view room on Tuesday. Really? after we’ve unpacked and all situated, they’re willing to move us? wtf, I’m sure they were counting on us to F that.
We finally gave up and decided to take it up with Costco once we got back. we had an early flight and it had been a long day, I just wanted to rest. Of course once my mood turned sour, I started to notice this place wasn’t all that great. The walls are very thin, I’m guessing we didn’t notice before because my kids are kinda loud themselves, but I realized that I could actually hear the neighbors talking and their phones ringing. It was so bad, a few times I actually thought it was our phone. I’m not sure how old the resort is, but very poor insulation.
Also this year, we noticed the quality of food went down, maybe new chefs? my husband ordered surf and turf one night (steak with giant prawn) he was thinking, giant like the size of a lobster but these were tiny regular shrimps. And the wait time was terrible! took almost 2 hours to get our food that first night. luckily, we weren’t that hungry, but the waiters were super nice. Besides the extremely slow service, all the restaurants were overpriced. breakfast buffet $ 30pp, dinner buffet about $ 60pp not including tips. And good luck trying to get reservations at Cortez.
The last day of our stay, I complained to the front desk again about the room they put us in. I asked if we’d be compensated as we didn’t get the ocean front view that we paid for. The manager did apologize, but still insists that we got an ocean front. I showed her a picture of the view and she said unfortunately, that room is considered ocean front in their system so told her that if I can find 1 hotel guests to agree that it was indeed ocean front, I would stop complaining. After showing a few other guests the picture, all agreed that it was NOT ocean front. One of the other guest even stated that they paid for a regular ocean view and it was better then ours. At this point, I didn’t care that I was causing a scene, but management obviously did, so they decided to give us credit afterall. I’m pretty sure they stuck us in this room because most asians don’t like confrontations and tend to not complain, which is partially true. I do hate conflicts, but the lawyer in me jumps out like a ninja when I feel I’m being poorly mistreated.
Overall, we had a nice stay, didn’t spend much time on the patio because my nerves got the better of me. kids enjoyed the pool, and staff on site were all very friendly, but DO NOT waste your $ on the views. I’m pretty sure they reserve the best rooms/​views for time share owners because that seems to be the theme there. See attached picture and decide for yourselves if the view is worth the upgrade.

Stayed in the hotel with a destination wedding group for four days.
It was an interesting visit. Never been to Cabo before so we didn’t know what to expect.
Porters when we arrived were amazing. Super friendly and provided assistance without us asking. Front desk was a different story. It was hectic so we got missed standing in line and several people jumped in front of us just by walking up and starting to talk to the desk attendants. So we waited for a while.
Then, the attendant we got was just this side of rude. Started out nice enough but when we tried to put the whole thing on a debit card, she turned into a very different person. She cut my aunt off several times with «I work here so let me explain how this works to you because Mexico is not the US…» Was tactless in trying to explain to us how a debit card works in a hotel. Yes, we understood that we would be charged for everything immediately. Not a problem for us, especially considering we didn’t have any credit cards on us — debit was the only option. Not really understanding why, only that we shouldn’t be asking too many questions, we had to leave $ 300 in cash at the front desk. (???) and still paid with the debit card. It was peculiar and she was NOT nice about the whole thing.
Finally got our room and it was nice. Didn’t anticipate needing it for anything other than sleeping. Property is laid out in different buildings and we were in a building not too far from the lobby but they still us in a golf cart over there. Our first floor room actually opened in the back to a walking path down to the beach so it was gorgeous.
You get 30 minutes of free wifi in the lobby and then have to pay for it after 30 minutes. Or you can get room wifi for $ 13/​day. Like others have said, it was spotty at times and it doesn’t cover the whole property (which would have been nice).
Food was pretty good. Ate mostly with the wedding party and at Girasoles, which has all-​you-​can-​eat breakfast for $ 20. Dishes are cooked to order and not buffet-​style. Thought they were pretty good. Also certain drinks are covered in the all-​you-​can-​eat, like mimosas and bloody marys. Unfortunately, water is NOT covered in that. I think I bought $ 16 worth of water one morning when I was particularly dehydrated.
Oh, and someone else mentioned thin walls: that’s a thing. I was in our room one afternoon working on homework and someone upstairs must have been dragging furniture across the floor for about two hours. It was the most horrific scraping noise ever. And every time someone in the room next to ours flushed the toilet or talked, it sounded like they were in the room with us.
The wedding was beautiful and overall we had an amazing time with a few hiccups. I will definitely go back to spend more time on the beach. Will make sure I get a higher level room, bring a credit card and budget for bottled water.

My wife and I have stayed at Hacienda Del Mar 3 times now and have been quite pleased with our experience on each stay. The grounds are kept in immaculate condition and you will generally have a housekeeper in your room twice a day. The pools and pool areas are always well taken care of and there is rarely a problem getting a chair and umbrella, as is also the case with the beach where you will always find staff-​members available to get chairs and umbrellas set up for guests.
We have stayed in a 1 bedroom unit a couple of times and they are very spacious. The bedroom has 2 queen beds and there is a pullout in the living room in case you’re bringing kids. There is also a kitchenette in the 1 bedroom unit with a small refrigerator, toaster-​oven and a stove-​top. Both of these stays were in the old (not very old) section of the resort which is receiving a remodel currently.
On our last stay we were in a 3 bedroom suite in one of the new buildings. WOW! The unit was beautiful to say the least. This unit had a full kitchen, four baths, full dining and living room area and a balcony that stretched the length of the suite. The balcony was fully furnished as well and even had a private Jacuzzi tub. The master bedroom was quite large and the bed was very comfortable. The other two rooms had 2 queen beds each and private baths with large closets. The fourth bathroom in the hallway is a full bath as well so if you have kids sleeping on the pull-​out they don’t have to use a bedroom bath to take a shower.
The staff at Hacienda Del Mar has always been great. It seems that every time I pass an employee they will ask if I need assistance and they always have a smile on their face. If you need a taxi, bell service or just more towels they are very prompt in getting you taken care of. As is the case with resorts anywhere, but especially in Mexico, a nice tip will get you royal service.
The location of Hacienda Del Mar will require a short taxi ride into town or renting a car. The resort is on the corridor, but the solitude offered by this location is unmatched while still being close enough to the party zone. It’s roughly a 7 – 8 minute drive. The resort is also near Costco, Sam’s, and Wal-​Mart.
We already have our next trip to Hacienda Del Mar scheduled for summer of 2015 and we can’t wait. We have stayed in a lot of resorts both in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Los Cabos and we definitely rate Hacienda Del Mar at the top of the list.

There are definitely more options closer to downtown for the same price, so do your research.

I’m giving 5-​stars for the property but wanted to comment on the timeshare presentation first. We were staying as guests of the vacation club and received $ 100 (per couple) to use at the hotel restaurants. We had friends staying at the hotel side who got $ 200 (per couple) and in retrospect, I should have held out for more. They say the presentation is 75– min but it’s closer to 2-​hours including breakfast which you eat with the sales person. They offer a 15% discount card for dinners plus discount on activities — neither of which we used.
We used our $ 100 at the Sirenas all-​you-​can-​eat taco bar served at dinner ($ 25 pp) and the Girasoles all-​you-​can-​eat breakfast ($ 17.50 pp) both of which I’d recommend if you’re forced to eat at the resort. If you are able to get off the property, I’d recommend lunch or dinner at the Hacienda Cocina y Cantina in CSL which has very reasonable prices and a great view.
There’s ~5 pools: 3 with good views of the ocean, 1 geared towards kids with a mushroom waterfall, and 1 that felt heated compared to the others. Overall, the resort provided exactly the kind of vacation we were looking for. We only left the property once and spent the rest of the time lounging by the pools.

And I said to myself… «Self… Let’s get another drink.»
I complied.
This place is not a behemoth hotel building stacking people on top of each other. Instead, it’s a nice sprawling set of smaller buildings where everyone gets some privacy and space. The rooms were very cozy and had all of the fancier accommodation amenities such as the jacuzzi tub and patio. They also have like 4 pools that cater to different genres of people. There’s the beach-​side pool, the kids pool, the swim-​up bar pool, etc.
I really enjoyed drinking cervezas cubanos (i.e. cheladas sans tomato sauce) here with friends.

I feel privileged to have been a guest at this exquisite property. The grounds were stunningly beautiful and kept in pristine order. The pools, the restaurants, the shops, the golf course, the bars! were all very impressive and made me feel like the Pharaoh.
The warm professionals make the experience though. 5-​star quality is an understatement. I highly recommend this hotel and resort if you find yourself with a surplus of Shekels. It is pricey, but it is worth it.
