Grand Solmar Land’s End

We got married here and stayed at the sister resort Solmar. First and foremost we want to thank our wedding coordinator and her crew here. Erika was very accommodating and help us make our wedding day almost damn near perfect!
The scene and setting is absolutely perfect. Pictures don’t do it justice!
Definitely coming back to relax and indulge!

Our favorite place to escape to in Cabo. The grounds are gorgeous, the people are super friendly and amazing. Everyone here feels like family. It’s truly a slice of paradise.

I can’t say enough great things about the grand solmar! It’s beyond a 5 star rating. My husband and I have been going for the past 4 years. We are owners and its been well worth the investment. Our place is beautiful and we always have an ocean view. Its far enough from down town, but just close enough to venture out. The staff take care of us all week like we are family. They have all been there since we have been going, not much turn over here. Specifically, Roberto Martinez Aguliar at Don Luis restaurant is hands down the best customer service guy, every time! So see him at the restaurant, Don Luis. The fitness center was just finished last year and is topnotch it Has every piece of equipment you could ask for. Love this place! Thanks to the rest of the crew, Manny, Cesar and all the ladies who’ve made our place feel like home.

We rented a master suite from a timeshare rental site and in doing so, paid half of what came up as the rate on Expedia. After doing so much research, we settled on Grand Solmar because of how new it was and that it had its own beach and was close to town. You can’t swim at the beach in front of the resort, which sounds like a huge negative, but being in the infinity pool looking out at the water in front of you (without any crowds) was great.
The rooms were beautiful and up to par with other four star hotels we have stayed at in the US.
The service, except for the front desk, was outstanding. From the manager at one of the main pools to our server at Don Ruiz restaurant, they really bend over backward to be of service.
The problem with the front desk was that they did not keep a master suite for us the first night, even though we had paid for it, because we came in late. We had contacted them early in the day to let them know our flight was delayed but when we came in very late, we were put into a studio. When I said I was upset our reservation wasn’t honored, the guy told me that they would put me in a nicer room the next day (which was the actual type of room we had paid for but didn’t have the great view every other one seemed to have :(). When I still didn’t look thrilled, he said «well, it is only for a couple of hours» as if getting up and moving again in the morning was a great solution.
However, it still gets high marks in my book as this was an abberation from the overall excellent service here.
***Try not to stay on the 3^rd floor. You’ll be looking at a stone wall versus at the ocean when you are sitting on your balcony.

Grand solmar is the best resort in Cabo. We go every year. The staff is amazing, especially Manny you will meet him upon arrival. The location is nice, You can walk right downtown or take a shuttle. The rooms are all ocean view and the food and drinks are also amazing. One week isn’t long enough! Also another place I visit yearly. Thank you Grand Solmar, you are like family! Make sure you go when the weather isn’t too hot!

This review is for the Spa at Grand Solmar. I took my girlfriend for a special date night pampering (Lands End Pampering Experience 170 mins), and I was totally impressed! The body work, the style of facial, the body scrub, the pre-​session steam room, the post session grooming, the location high above the ocean in the Pearl cabana that overlooks the Pacific while the waves break below – the entire experience was divine. The staff was extremely friendly and willing to help make the experience even more romantic and relaxing by belong us with changing menus slightly and giving us extra time to enjoy the sunset. Ohh, also, the food: the pairings before, during and after the session were perfect. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect for $ 389/​person except that it should be damn good service. After I was finished with the entire pampering, I can honestly say my expectations were totally exceeded. I’m a truly happy customer and would highly recommend this service from Grand Solmar Land’s End Spa.

Leaving the airport in San Jose on Wed, Feb 10, we (a group of four women) went through the gauntlet of timeshare salespeople as we exited the airport to get our transportation to our hotel. It was Marco, who signed us up for the visit at Grand Solmar. He was professional and courteous. He signed us up for a few tours, gave us a sunset cruise as a ‘thank you’ for agreeing to meet with the Grand Solmar salespeople.
When we arrived at Grand Solmar on the 11^th of February, the staff was kind and professional as well. The resort is sparkly, brand new, and gorgeous. We were treated to a nice breakfast where we met two salesmen, «Keith» and «TJ.» It all goes downhill from here.
After we ate, we were given a tour of the property and the opportunity to see a studio and 1-​bedroom unit. We sat down in the 1-​bedroom unit to talk a little. Let me say, on the way in, we noticed all of the admin help were beautiful Latinas, all dressed in tight blue dresses with platform tan shoes. While we were seated, one of the young ladies walked by and I pointed at her shoes. My friend directly in front of me smiled, Keith turned around to see what we were smiling about. He said, yeah, «I’d f**kin’ do her too,» and put his hand to his crouch as if he was jerking off. I was shocked he would speak to me/​us in this manner. There was an elderly couple also in the Unit at the same time we were, although I’m not sure they heard the comments directed at the four of us.
We stepped out on the patio, sat at the table to begin the sales presentation. «TJ,» who had just returned from a year away, didn’t feel comfortable starting the presentation without Keith. Keith decided he needed to take a smoke break, so he stood about four feet behind me puffing away (I hate cigarette smoke but I could already tell making a sale with me mattered not at all to Keith), while talking on his cell phone. We waited.
After the discussion began, one of my friends got an emergency call from her son at college. Keith told her she needed to hurry up and get off the phone so we could discuss business. Rude. Especially when we’d just waited for him.
Once the discussion began, Keith hurriedly rushed through the money required/​contract requirements. I am an accountant, so I understood the math but my friend, who was very interested, did not. I asked him to explain this a little better, go step by step, and slow down. Once he’d gone through it again, he decided to just ask if we were interested or not. I said I am not. Another friend who was very interested, asked him if he wouldn’t mind explaining everything to her again. He decided he would not. The meeting ended abruptly, Keith walked off, and TJ walked us out of the room.
Once Keith marched off, I told TJ that since it didn’t matter to Keith what we thought of his behavior, I’d tell him (TJ) exactly why I would never buy anything at Grand Solmar. I told TJ that Keith’s behavior was terribly unprofessional and disrespectful, and that Keith would never even think about cursing or putting his hand to his crotch if he were making the sales presentation to the elderly white couple in the unit with us. TJ didn’t offer an apology, only nodded his head, and pointed to where we should exit. He didn’t even bother to escort us back, so we ended up wandering around the property, asking several people for directions beforefinally making our way back to where we entered the property.
I believe Keith’s cursing, the jerking off motion were his attempts to be show he was «down» with a group of four women of colour who probably couldn’t afford the property anyway. I only tell you this for context, but I make six figures and could well afford to purchase, but after Keith’s crass, disgusting behavior I would never buy anything from you people. My friend who asked him to slow down bought ownership at another property the following day, where she said she was treated with respect and worked with someone willing to explain everything to her satisfaction. Also, I saw not one person of colour on your sales force, something that is very important to me, and should be important to anyone looking to own, that Grand Solmar is diverse and inclusive.
During our ‘exit interview,’ we did share these comments with one of your staff.

Pros:
Nice facility if it’s ever completed
Spacious rooms are well appointed. I especially like the empty refrigerator and the $ 3 bottles of water offered. More so, the $ 17 bag of coffee was within eyesight. Reminded me of Vegas!
There are many pools to escape a crowd. They are wonderfully maintained and provide exceptional views of the ocean. The grotto pool/​sitting area was a nice touch as well (not a jacuzzi but not a pool)
Cons:
Front desk gal named «Adelina» never smiled once. Jesus was very accommodating
Drinks were very inconsistent. Oscar in the «sports bar» was probably the best of them all. Heriberto and Carlos at the main pool bar were great.
On two occasions the Lobby bar served well below standard drinks. in plastic cups. Really?
Breakfast services were hit and miss. Service from Jose was meh, service from Diego was great. They only offered the menu the first day of our stay afterwards I think they expected folks to employ the buffet. We had to ask for the menu twice. Eggs benedict were poor. And can someone please remind wait staff to bring out new flatware? One time there wasn’t even any flatware on the table when we were served. I remarked to the waiter how he expected us to eat our meal… constant issue for some reason.
Food orders took a very long time to arrive whether it be poolside or at the dinner table.
Does not offer complimentary shuttle out of the property. This seemed extraordinarily important due to the continuous construction going on in the front of the property. Lots of dust and other contaminates.
Very expensive if dining at the facility. We elected for an AI which wasn’t cheap either. Value is just not there compared to other first rate properties. Food quality varied. Nothing really stood out and we ate lots of food (family of four)
No onsite complimentary sundry store for sodas waters etc.
Would not return despite the beautiful location and architecture.

SCAM!!! Beware, don’t fall for the timeshare trick! As 3 vulnerable girls with the movie «Taken» replaying in our head, we were weary speaking to random people at the airport asking us if we need rides to our hotel. So, what seemed safe was to approach the men behind the desk– seems legit right? WRONG! Guadalupe succeeded at tricking us into timeshare scams we had been warned about. We asked him to help us get a cab to our hotel and he told us he could get us a round trip ticket to and from the airport, and he would throw in 3 free buffet breakfasts and half price tickets to a sunset cruise… All we had to do was go check out this new hotel (Grand Solmar) and hang out for a tour that would take no longer than 90 min!
The next day we arrived at the Grand Solmar only to realize this was not a simple tour but a timeshare presentation with high pressure sales that took 3.5 hours!!! After we informed our tour guide, Leo, several times that we were not interested in purchasing any form of timeshares, he continued sending 3 other high pressures salesman to convince us and give us «offers we could refuse». Pretending they were the manager or just there to review our experience, these salesman — Mandy, and David, had this down to a science. We had to sit through all the BS just to get the things we were promised– our taxi ride back to the airport and the cruise tickets we had already purchased back at the airport. Not a single person gave us their full name. Not a single brochure with written numbers and quotes was provided. The deal had to be signed that day, then and there, or nothing! It all sounded too shady. But be careful, they are master con artists, and can be quite convincing. They’ll try anything, even attempted to get us drunk to sign the contract — insisting we order alcoholic beverages rather than water «since its on the house».
After the entire hotel staff gave us the stink eye and unbelievable amounts of attitude for refusing to purchase, we were finally free to leave. On our way out we heard several other Americans who were tricked into the same situation, all complaining of the waste of time and how they just wanted their tickets to leave.
This place is a scam. They don’t care about your stay or your experience. They’re just after your investment to continue their developments and construction. Be careful! Don’t waste your valuable vacation time at the place! Not worth it

I wasn’t aware that hotels were now using their medical services as a means of revenue generation. It’s pretty ingenious, if ¹⁄₁₀ of your guests ingest the unsafe water, and then you charge those sick people $ 180 for a brief consultation with a nurse that doesn’t use gloves to administer shots and has some pretty severe communication problems, you effectively increase your average ticket by 18 dollars per guest.
It sucks to be on the receiving end of that, though, after we spent a great deal of $$ anyway on the resort.
Oh, and our little doctors visit made us miss our prepaid shuttle to the airport, guess how much the hotel thinks a 40 minute cab ride should cost? $ 120 American dollars. Thanks for giving us a great first taste of Cabo.

A beautiful hotel in an amazing setting. We’re owners with Starwood and decided to exchange to this property this past summer. We were a little hesitant at first because there’s so much construction leading up to the make shift lobby. You have to take golf carts up from entrance to the lobby because it’s a hike up and there’s a lot of scaffolding. The construction didn’t bother us during our 8 day stay. We didn’t have a problem with noise at all.
Once you get to the lobby, though, it’s breathtaking. The views of the Pacific Ocean and the pool are amazing. You’re greeted with a cold cocktail and check in was smooth. We ended up staying in an oceanfront room with views of the main pools. The room itself was the biggest room we’ve ever stayed in. We had a 1 bedroom for the 4 of us and it could easily fit 8 people comfortably. My kids loved the murphy bed. We were impressed by how beautifully kept the grounds were. Someone was always cleaning, mopping or even dusting. We like the fact that they have daily housekeeping here and turn down service, unlike other timeshares.
The pools are well kept and clean. I liked the fact that you didn’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to save chairs. There were always chairs available, but the ones right by the ocean go fast. We would go down to the pool around 10am and get good spots. There’s no beach chairs since the waves are very rough. It’s ok because you can relax at the infinity pool and still feel like you’re in the ocean.
The restaurants on property are ok, but super pricey. We tried Don Ruiz twice and were underwhelmed each time. We ended up eating in the downtown area since it was within walking distance or a cheap cab ride away. We walked a couple of times with our 2 young sons and always felt safe. No one bothered us. We just made sure to use common sense and tried not to stay out when it was dark. There was plenty of cabs around also, so if we didn’t feel like walking, we would just get in a cab. Fares were usually around $ 8-​$ 10 to and from the hotel to downtown.
I took a star off because of the construction leading toward the entrance. Also, the timeshare people are kind of relentless. We sat in on a presentation just so we could get a discount on a dolphin swim. They really don’t like to take no for an answer. If you don’t want to get a discount or free food, just firmly ignore them. Also, there’s no washer/​dryer in the units which isn’t really convenient. There’s 2 laundry rooms with 1 washer and dryer for the whole property. They really need to add more.
I hope the construction is done soon, because I would love to come back. It’s definitely a 5 star property and will show once it’s done.

This hotel is beautiful, but I have stayed here 3 times now and I swear it is ALWAYS in construction. Constantly hearing cranes and loud construction sounds kind of kills the relaxed mood. Also, because of the construction there’s always a certain area of the hotel that’s off limits, which is annoying – especially when it’s the pool directly in front of your room (as was the case the most recent time I stayed here.)
Also, please please note that the beach in front of the Grand Solmar is NOT a swimming beach. Rather, the water is super stormy and it’s full of rocks. I don’t personally really swim in ocean water, but it has been an issue with the people that I stayed here with.

Heaven on earth, this place is simply beautiful. There are no words to express this place. The best views in Cabo of the ocean, everyday I was here I woke up to blue water and rested to beautiful sunsets.

The second I spotted this beach, 30 years ago, before any development, I knew I found heaven. When I first toured the Grand Solmar at Land’s End, I fell in love again. Everything about it is perfect. It’s exquisitely designed, and the setting is spectacular. The people offer exemplary service — they are friendly, have amazing memories (year after year) and make the overall experience very special.
We are lucky enough to stay in a 3 bedroom, and it’s tons of room for our family and friends. It has its own private pool! We feel spoiled rotten! The property offers amazing pools — lots of them, from in-​pool bars to very quiet adults only ones. None are loud and obnoxious however. Social, yes, but nobody doing body shots:)
I love everything about Grand Solmar at Land’s End. Perfect modern luxury.

We make our annual pilgrimage here for vacation every year, or we try to (last September we never made it out of LAX due to hurricane). And before I was married, I came regularly to the cute little bungalows that used to sit on the beach. Time marches on and you can’t fight change/​progress so we have embraced the gorgeous new accommodations. This is now a beautiful, full scale resort! Given our disappointment last fall, we were very excited to vacation here in April. Unfortunately, check in was rough. We are usually treated to a welcome margarita on arrival. However, this time we were told that they ran out of margaritas. Wha, wha, what? How the heck does a Mexican resort with multiple on site bars run out of margaritas?! They tried to make it up with rum punch, but it was yucky and I’m not in the Bahamas.
Next we talk to the hostess who tries to schedule us for a free breakfast/​lunch the next day so we can «learn about all the new updates about the property.» We say we’re not interested in buying anymore timeshare weeks/​upgrades, etc., and she says oh no, that’s not what this is about, yet she advises that if we attend, we need to bring a credit card. Trust me, JUST SAY NO! Then we are finally escorted to our room – luggage and load of groceries from Walmart (yes, we need the corporate comforts of home and discount to relax)! We are told that this is the newest and nicest building (Bldg 4) so naturally we are eager to see what’s in store for us. Call us spoiled, but we are not impressed. Although this master suite unit certainly has pretty, new furniture, it seems noticeably smaller than the ones we have previously stayed in. There’s also a huge dent and multiple scratches on the refrigerator door (maybe they dropped it or a guest had a violent late night hunger attack). And even more noticeable, it’s really hot in the suite – near 80, even though A/​C is on. We ask for help with A/​C, and they send a tech, but 45 min later it’s not feeling any cooler, and I already loaded up the fridge with our Walmart goodies.
We also discovered other strange differences in the master bathroom – there is no bathtub but looks like there is an empty space for one, no shower door, and no door or privacy partition around the toilet. I should have taken a picture of the awkward layout because each time we asked timeshare staff about the design/​layout at our «free lunch» (yes, we went), they acted surprised and could not explain why the bathroom was so different in this building. Anyway, I tried to open a bottle of wine and drift into vacation mode while the A/​C tech did his work, but wouldn’t you know, no wine opener in this room. Yet another difference from our previous rooms/​stays. We did catch housekeeping in the corridor and asked for one, but by this time, we’re getting sweaty and irritable by the lack of margaritas, A/​C and all the hiccups. The A/​C techs were very polite and doing their best, but their estimate of a 2 hour window to fix the problem did not sit well with us, especially at 9 pm.
So my husband makes multiple calls and trips to front desk and talks to staff who do not seem to remember him each time they see/​talk to him. They also do not seem to know how to make a room change, and when my hubby asks for a manager, they do not have a manager on duty, only an «acting manager.» Ok, yes that’s what hubby wants, someone who can act like a manager! Eventually, hubby gets to talk to «acting manager» and thank goodness he is a good actor and he gets it and changes our room. But it’s a pain in the neck – in addition to our luggage, the refrigerator needs to be emptied out and packed up. They did send another young man from the lobby staff to help, and he was very cheerful and upbeat. I kind of felt sorry for him, walking into grumpy tourist central, but we didn’t take it out on him and he earned his tip.
Fortunately, the «acting manager» must have relayed our check in woes to the real manager because it appeared that he stopped by the following day while we were out and left his business card and a plate of sweets, but I say he should have left tequila or even margaritas! Anyhow, aside from the «business meeting» (timeshare sale presentation) that we kind of got kicked out of, the rest of our week was smooth sailing and pure bliss. Exquisitely beautiful location, excellent massage staff in the cabanas on the beach, and the food and view at the onsite restaurant La Roca was amazing. Really no need to leave the resort, but we did have to check out some of the local venues just to compare. Location/​views are 100% here. Food is more on the upscale side, but worth it! Looking forward to next year – minus the hiccups and timeshare nonsense.

While the hotel/​condo building and grounds are breathtaking, I would personally not consider staying here on principal alone. Here is why:
Upon grabbing our luggage and making our way out of the airport, we were approached by a young man who said he could get us a better deal for a round trip transfer (private and not shared so it would not have any stops) to and from our hotel because his company would also throw in 2 activities and a champagne breakfast if we would go to their «hotel» and look around. He said it wasn’t a time share spiel, so the 4 of us paid $ 42 each and agreed to take a look around the following morning. He insisted we lie about which hotel we were staying at, saying we would not be taken seriously if we told the truth. We took that to mean that we wouldn’t get our vouchers after the tour — otherwise.
The next morning, we were picked up and taken to the Grand Solmar Hotel and walked around the grounds. It was lovely. We were then given 15-​minutes to eat a buffet breakfast, sans cocktails, with the gentleman giving us the tour.
After that, we were taken upstairs to a conference room where we were seated with a high-​pressure time share salesman for an hour. During that time, one friend and I were given 2 drinks but our other 2 friends were not.
When the sales guy finally gave up on us, he sent over a «Marketing» person, who supposedly just wanted us to rate our experience, but gave us another spiel; this time about buying weeks of vacations and not years.
After saying no, we were sent downstairs to a man who was supposed to give us our activity vouchers. Instead, we received yet a 3^rd spiel; which was a better deal than the prior 2, but we were too put-​off to even consider it. When he gave up on us, he sent us to a 4^th person — who printed out our vouchers — but insisted I give my credit card number «In case you don’t show up for your activities, we charge you for them». He also high pressured us into going to another property the next day and listen to 5^th spiel. I tried to say no, but he was relentless and told us to do one of our activities (wave runners), we’d have to go to the hotel he was pressuring us to visit. That turned out not to be true and the wave runner business was down the beach a ways. He then sent us on our way, and we were made to walk back to our hotel instead of given a ride back.
The piece de resistance was finding out that the company that was to take us back to the airport with the vouchers we paid for, insisted we give them $ 20 more ($ 5 a person). Furious, I got them down to $ 10, but we shouldn’t have had to pay a penny because there was no set dollar and it was simply a voucher for a ride all the way back. After 3.5 hours of wasted vacation time, we all agreed we would have rather taken a regular shuttle to and from our hotel and paid for our own activities.

I was originally going to stay at sister hotel Playa Grande, but they double-​upgraded us from a studio at Playa to a 1-​bedroom at Grand Solmar because of a hiccup with my reservation. I was delighted to be able to stay at such a luxurious retreat! I know nothing about timeshares or diamonds or anything like that, but I do know that my couple night’s stay at Grand Solmar made me feel very comfortable.
–1 star because of all the construction and the lack of amenities due to the hurricane. Obviously not the hotel’s fault and they are doing plenty to fix it, but I would have loved the 3 additional pools be open. There is also construction on an additional building in the complex, but the cranes and sounds didn’t bother me. The sounds were actually quite minimal.
Solmar beach is NOT a swimming beach. Lovers/​Divorce Beaches were also closed due to the strong currents and waves. Apparently people used to climb the rocks near this resort to get to said beaches, but that was impossible.
The room itself was larger than my NYC apartment. TWO full bathrooms, a gigantic kitchen, living room, murphy bed, king sized bed, and crazy nice master bath. For two people, we only used the master side of the room. Marble floors and everything was clean. I felt right at home (well, a nicer home).
I didn’t get to try any of the food here since I opted to go out into the city and eat.
I was sad I had to leave this resort.

The Grand Solmar is definitely going to be a 4 or 5 diamond rated hotel. They have the inspection this coming September so expect all constrution going on to be finished before then. The service is remarkable. All the workers are super friendly. If you call from you room and request towels.soaps.etc, they arrive within 5 minutes.
The food here is not that great as I lived in NYC for a decade. However you stay here for the huge suites and awesome inifnity pools. I also love the exclusive feel of the place as its not packed with 20something sping breakers.
I will be coming back!

Such gorgeous infinity pools planted all over, overlooking the ocean. All the employees are super friendly and helpful. They have a golf cart if you are feeling lazy and they will take you around the property. So much attention to detail in every aspect of the hotel such as gardening, the shape of the sand, koi fishes, hammocks, etc. the drinks here can get pricey ($ 15/​drink, margarita being the strongest) but it’s worth it to drink by the pool.
the concierge is super helpful too. You can ask them for anything from where to get groceries to where to go out at night.
If you do a timeshare tour, they will give you hook ups on most of the outdoor adventures too.
The taxi ride from here to downtown area (Maro shrimp house, mama house, squid roe, etc) is about flat rate of $ 8 for 4 people.

Beautiful resort that is quite comfortable and plush. Everything on this property is gorgeous and it sits right on Solmar beach.
There is an adult’s only pool with has an infinity edge that looks over the ocean front. You can also schedule massages at the gazebo — there is even a sunset option.
The down side to this resort is that unless you’re willing to walk 2 miles, you are not near Medano beach, downtown, or the Marina. Also, since Solmar is on the pacific side, the current here is much stronger so don’t go swimming if you’re no a skilled swimmer! Also, be prepared to be pressured into a time share presentation.
If you’re adventurous and more daring, you can climb over the rocks to get to Lover’s Beach and Divorce beach for a view of the Arch and Land’s End. I hiked to the top of Mt. Solmar where the cross is, the view cannot be beat! Be warned, the staff will all tell you it’s not allowed and it is not an easy hike/​climb. There is no marked trail at all so you are guessing your way to the top.
