I was so impressed with the service I received from Gecko Rent a Car! I was traveling to Puerto Vallarta with my young daughter, and I wanted to avoid the kind of rental car debacles I had read about here and on Trip Advisor, especially since I’d be managing a toddler alone. Lalo was super professional when I emailed with some questions, and gave me detailed instructions on how to get from the plane, through the airport, to the VIP Service area where I would be escorted to a taxi and driven directly to their offices in Bucerias. The entire process was efficient, transparent, and affordable, and our car (and the car seat) was great! I would highly recommend them.

Can’t recommend this place enough. Get a nice, clean van ride out of busy PV to Bucerias where you get your car. We worked mostly with Lalo, who was very helpful and responsive to our emails. He had a great recommendation for a snorkel charter in Punta Mita (Cap Oyster). $ 510 8 days with a clean CRV. Impressive professional operation. No reason to deal with the airport rental operations with these guys offering much better service at the same or competitive price. And the price truly does include all of the various and odd insurances.

Gecko was super easy and efficient to rent from. We were greeted at the airport via the VIP section and brought immediately out to our driver who would take us into Bucerias to pick up the rental. Everything was quickly processed and we were given some instructions and we on our way. There was no hidden fees or additional costs. They were very reasonable to deal with and for a very good price we had a very nice little newer Nissan truck. All in all an excellent experience.

If you want to have the best experience ever, with the nicest people you should rent a car here. They all so nice and welcoming. Honest people, great car and great prices. Highly recommended.

Thank you Adam and Tomas for such a great experience with Gecko car rental in Sayulita! There were no hidden extra costs and the price for car + insurance was clearly stated on their website and confirmed through email interactions well before we arrived. The free airport pick up and drop off went smoothly and our Chevy suburban was in good condition.
While the car battery died at some point during the trip, it wasn’t a huge deal as they arrived right away to replace the car for us. Tomas also helped us out by hooking us up with Captain Oyster to take us out on his boat for a snorkel trip to the Marietta Islands.
I’d definitely recommend Gecko for car rental in the area.

We rented from Gecko in February 2016 and had a great experience. Even though the cab took us to the wrong office (not the one across the street from the airport), it was great to meet Lalo and Adam. They were great to work with and they gave us lots of great tips on where to go and what to see. Highly recommend renting from them.

I had a great experience with Gecko car rental. They were honest, straight forward and helpful. They responded quickly to questions, there were no hidden costs and they helped us get to our flight in time. I recommend them highly.

My family of 4 spent a week in Nayarit and used Gecko Rent a Car. I highly recommend this company. From reservation arrangements to pick up at the airport, to actually getting the keys (and getting tips on driving in Mexico lesson from Lalo) and returning, the experience was painless. We got a VW Jetta equivalent (automatic transmission) for a week for $ 335 cash or $ 370 on credit card. The instructions from Tomas that explained the airport
pick up were step by step simple to exit the baggage claim, etc. A 20 min drive in a large van took us to the actual rental office. It was nice because we got out of the airport area lickety-​split. NO WAIT. Once at the office, it was paperwork, the driving lesson, some young men loaded our luggage and off we went. This was a really positive experience! Everyone we dealt with at Gecko spoke excellent English if that is a concern of yours. Looks like they have surfboards and racks to rent if that is something you need.

Gecko was a total breeze to work with. After finally getting through PV immigration (2.5 hours in line!), we were able to bypass all of the airport vultures, and pass through to the VIP area. They handed us cold bottled water and the driver took us to the Gecko office in Bucerias. Within 20 minutes, we were in our truck for 8 days of jungle and beach adventures. They were careful to explain the driving differences for us and give us detailed directions. The cost of the rental was exactly what they promised it would be. We had a small accident that dented the side of the rear fender of our truck and Gecko processed it quickly when we dropped our vehicle off before our return trip home. They effortlessly shuttled 6 of us and all of our luggage back to the airport for our trip home. When we got the bill for the accident damage today, it was completely fair and they handled everything for us flawlessly. From the second we arrived at the VIP desk to today, we felt confident and well cared for. I would highly recommend this company for all of your adventure needs in the Puerto Vallarta, Sayulita, and San Pancho region. I can’t say enough good things about our experience.

We travelled through Puerto Vallarta on our way to San Blas in Nayarit. Having had MANY bad experiences with car rental companies in Vallarta over the past 20 years (including the major internationals) these guys were wonderful! We had two VW Jettas, both were clean and in great condition. There was no insurance up-​sell, just a deposit to cover the insurance deductible in case there was damage, which seems very fair. On our return the manager stored our bags for a couple of hours while we did some sight-​seeing before our flights. They were very nice people and very professional. As others have said, what they quote is the actual price. 100% satisfied!

We traveled to Puerto Vallarta from Oct 18 to 23 and decided to rent a minivan from Gecko since it had really good reviews. I just want to say that it was the best decision ever, the day that we were supposed to return the car was the day that Hurricane Patricia hit. Since it was supposed to be the worst hurricane ever recorded and the airport was closed we decided that our best decision was to drive to Guadalajara. Since Gecko is a local company we knew we had to rent a car from a national company which didn’t have any cars left. To our surprise when I stopped by Gecko to see what advised they had, the owner, even without me asking, told me to take the car to Guadalajara. He told me not to worry about the car, that it was the best decision for me and my family and he will send somebody to pick it up in Guadalajara. The only charge was going to be for fuel and it sure was. I paid $ 25 for fuel and dropped it 4 hours away at the airport parking lot. No charge for anything else.
What an amazing thing to do. Instead of taking advantage of the situation they just did the opposite. Who does that? We are soooo grateful to this company, if we ever go back we know exactly where to go. Those guys are amazing. Thank you, Gecko. I will never forget what you guys did for my family in such a stressful time

All the other review are accurate. After a previous bad Mexico car rental experience these guys were a refreshing change. Honest pricing. Super helpful and friendly staff. Delivered the car to Punta Mita for a small and fair price. Highly recommend and will use in the future.

Best car rental as far as I’m concerned! Excellent Honda suv came through for us. Disaster averted after we left our passports/​cash in the office. Gecko saved them for us and they were intact the next day! BTW (all our cash was there)!Customer service at its best internationally! Pickup and drop off is seamless! The cars are immaculate and safe. So impressed, they deserve 10 stars!

Great, straight forward, fast service. They are professional, friendly and offer lots of suggestions on «what to do» in the area and even took the time to explain some tricky driving rules to us :)

Let me start by saying these guys are fantastic! I have rented cars in Mexico several times and have always been shocked at the final bill when returning the car.
Definitely not the case with Gecko, what they qoute you is the full price you pay without any surprises. When you make your reservation they will send you an email explaining how to get past the shark tank (time share sellers) and out to the pickup area at the airport. You will be offered a cold drink and then you will be driven to their office to do the minimal paperwork and offered cold beverages again.
They have their own travel guide thats about 100 pages with lots of useful info!
Returning the car was a breeze you can pay with USD or Mxn and get about ten percent discount for cash. They will take you back to the airport and drop you off!
Overall a hassle free experience. Nice guys, good rates, free tansportation to and from the airport. What more could you ask for?

If you’re traveling to the Puerto Vallarta area Gecko is the only place to get a rental car! The guys are wonderful to work with! There are no hidden fees or bullshit. Just straight up an easy and pleasant experience! I was traveling alone on my second trip and ended up locking my keys in the car. Within 30 minutes someone was there to let me back in. Not just a great company to get your car from but a great resource to have when visiting the area!

I’ll add to the 5-​star praise here. Having rented with the «nationals» in Mexico before, I’m super stoked to have found a real, legit, convenient, no-​bullshit rental service. Gecko has nice cars, stand-​up employees, and they’ll deliver the car to you, as well as pick it up when you return to the airport.
We got a pretty much brand new white CR-​V with only a few thousand miles on it for less than what the main branded rental agencies advertised. Add on that these guys don’t pull any of this «oh you have to buy extra insurance» BS that other agencies do. It’s all inclusive in the price. And on top of that, cash discount.
From start to finish, booking was super easy. Avoid the tourist touts in the airport, walk out to the parking lot past the OXXO, meet your dude, get your car and be on your way. Why pay more an hassle with anything else? This outfit is fantastic.

While all of the «Majors» quoted exhorbitant rates, Gecko was fair.
My Honda CRV had 9000 miles and was in perfect condition.

Thanks for a great experience.
Just after your driver dropped us off at the airport, my son noticed that he had forgotten his passport and wallet… in sayulita, (an hour a way)
I stepped into the street, waved my arms and whistled loudly. By some miracle, the driver who (who was a super nice local guy who lived in the US for years) was almost on the highway heard me and came back.
Without hesitation, he agreed to drive my son back to Sayulita get the wallet and return to the airport again.
By another miracle, this all worked out and my stupid son was on the next flight for the US.
