I am very surprised to find this Millennium Monument at Putrajaya. It was after our meal in a burning hot afternoon, we took a short walk around because we are too full. I saw this weird looking ‘building’ far off, at the end of the Putrajaya Lake. Out of curiosity, I walked there and saw a few homeless people beneath it. When I looked closer at each of the glass, there are Malaysia History printed on it, from the first glass«The Making of Malaysia», «First Printed Newspaper in Malaysia» etc, noting the important milestone of Malaysia. This weird looking buidling is actually Millennium Monument or Monumen Alaf Baru, a national monument. It was the second national monument to be built in Putrajaya. The shape is like an obelisk with glass etchings; denoting important periods and milestones in our history. It was very interesting because there are so many information on it I never learn about, even though I do professional history paper for my form 6. The monument lead all the way up, i will leave you guys to find out what is printed on the last glass. It was a bit too hot to visit at the afternoon but you can surely see clearly. If you visit at night, there will be spotlights of various colors but you might not read the glass etchings clearly. Fun Fact: The monument is 68 meters tall. It stands in a 25 hectare park in Precinct 2. The monument is constructed of solid metal structures. At night, the monument serves as a beacon with strong light projected at 360 degrees and sweeping lights visible from various locations in Putrajaya. The lights also guide the cruise boats. Under the monument, our former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir had buried a time capsule that he will later take out at 2020 year.
