The dim sum was pretty good, though not awesome. Prices are slightly higher but well worth it for the bigger portions. Most of all, the service here is great: they’re systematic and efficient. They even have free parking attendants to help you move in and out of the parking spaces, which can be a bit difficult since the area is congested.

The Dim-Sum is pretty yummy & is freshly served hot. What I like about this place is that it is open from morning till night, so any dim-sum cravings can be satisfied whenever it arises. Prices are not on the higher scale & is comparable to the usual dim-sum shops, so fret not. Their service is quite prompt as well.

To those Dim Sum cuisine fans out there, you probably have heard of Jin Xuan Hong Kong Dim Sum Restaurant already. They are one of the more well received Dim Sum Restaurant chain-outlets in Klang Valley. I particularly liked their outlet which is located in Damansara Uptown. One of the reasons that I like this particular outlet is that it is not too packed with customers as compared to their other outlets and it is quite easy in getting parking space in this area(Ya I know it sounds ludicrous, but it’s true!). I wouldn’t say that they serve one of the best Dim Sum’s in Malaysia, but I would say that their food is very well crafted and prepared. Other than that, they serve a wide variety of Dim Sum dishes which is an added advantage of dining here, and they are open the whole day which means you can have Dim Sum for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I will definitely be visiting Jin Xuan again whenever I have cravings for Dim Sum cuisines.

Jin Xuan Resturant is actually a dim sum chain store. My first time experiencing their dim sum was many years back in their Puchong branch. They are always packed with people regardless of which branch you go. After I discover that they have one branchhere in Damansara. I prefer coming here instead of going to Puchong whenever I feel like having dim sum. Somehow I prefer coming to Damansara than going to Puchong. Maybe because I can go shopping at nearby mall after brunch. This branch here is also always packed with people. The first thing you have to do when you got here is to get yourself a number from the person in charge of the seating chart. The reason I like having their dim sum is because first of all, their portion is huge, secondly, they’re quick in terms of service and their price is quite reasonable too. Not very cheap but reasonable(not overpriced too). Another plus point is, they open almost the whole day! You can have breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or even supper here.

Amongst all their branch, this is the one my friends and I frequent the most. They open from as early as 7am till 10:30pm at night. Weekends breakfast hours are packed till after lunch. You will need to take a number at the counter and wait for your number to be called. Tip for you, do sit outside if you’re hungry because you’ll get a seat much faster and don’t hesitate if you are to share your table with others. It’s fine. Because of the high volume, the food here is almost always fresh from the oven. I’ve tried their other branches and find that the quality of food does make a big difference. Golden bun is a must when you’re here. One of the better ones for the price you pay here.

Alright dimsum. Jin Xuan is one of the more popular dimsum destinations in the Damansara Jaya area. On weekends, people from surrounding neighbourhoods flock to the establishment to get their fill of dimsum. Expect mobs of hungry people queuing up just to get a seat. The quality of dimsum here is well controlled, so you can always expect a decent meal whenever you step foot through the door. The tables and chairs at the establishment are made out of wood and have a marble centre, giving it a very traditional feel. I’d personally recommend the custard bao and BBQ pork bun! But beware, parking is scarce in the area. I’d recommend going on weekends during off-peak hours.

When I can’t figure what to eat for breakfast, I usually go for Dimsum. Nearest to my place is Jin Xuan Hong Kong restaurant. The queue is always very long, so sometimes I get impatient to wait. But knowing for it’s good food and reasonable pricing, it’s a waste to just leave. Food portion is great and service is also good. Pricing wise; reasonable. However, the indoor seating’s are always full, so we have to sit outside, which can get pretty hot and humid, which makes eating experience less comfortable. With too many people in line, it can get quite frustrating especially on weekends. Weekday crowd is much lesser. Apart from that, parking can be the main problem too as most of the cars double park especially during breakfast peak hours. However, I really like the fish ball as the texture is great. Also, the famous«Siu Mai», which is also quite huge, comparing to other dim sum places. They have a total of 6 branches; 5 in Selangor and 1 in KL.

So I was craving for dim sum for supper the other night and one of the few places that serve decent dim sum for supper is Jin Xuan but that night I felt it wasn’t the right night for dim sum. Beyond my displeasure, the dishes were below par, especially the fried carrot cake. It was soggy and very salty. Usually, it will fried to perfection and a well balanced taste. The siew-mai and prawn dumpling were also a disappointment, it was the stark opposition of the fried carrot cake, tasteless. Due to my disappointment, the supper became a quick one as I just wanted to leave and find a better supper. I strongly suggest to only have their dim sum in the morning or in the afternoon. If you’re craving for dimsum for dinner or supper, it will be taking a chance to be get the same quality in the day.

I’m very picky over food, and am extremely picky when it comes to dim sum. I’ve tried many so-called famous dim sum restaurants in Klang Valley area but they were pretty disappointing too. I’m still searching for dim sum that those I’ve had in Hong Kong — fresh and flavourful enough by itself, no dipping sauce required at all. Many people has been telling my that I should go try the dim sum at Jin Xuan. After some time, I decided to pay the restaurant a visit. I saw the place was already packed and people were queuing outside of the restaurant. I was thinking to myself«Wow, this could be a good sign». Eventually, I learnt that you either go really early or ready to wait — because the place is ALWAYS crowded. I had the Har Kau first. There were quite a fair bit of fresh prawns in the Har Kau, but I find it was lacking in flavours and the skin was too thick. Next, we had the Siew Mai. Compared to the Har Kau, the Siew Mai was better as it’s juicy and has more flavours. As for the fried dishes, they were only average, nothing special about it. However, 2 dishes were very impressive — Egg Tarts and Custard Bun. The egg custard in the egg tarts were smooth, eggy a not too sweet. I totally love the Custard Bun. The bun was fluffy, and you can see the hot custard oozing out when you break open the bun. Be careful when eating the bun, as the custard can be really piping hot. I like the salted egg in the custard where it gave the bun a savoury touch. Overall, I would say it’s an «ok» place for me to have dim sum. It’s still not what I’m looking for, so I guess I still have a lot of «dim sum» hunting to do.

Jin Xuan has always been my top preference when it comes to choosing a dim sum place to dine in. Again, need I emphasise much that I am very picky with food? They are way better than the regular Chinese coffee shops that serve dim sum(ps: Way better than Fu San in Ipoh, I seriously don’t understand what is the big fuss about!) Anyway, my take on Jin Xuan: 1) Taste is there 2) They don’t stinge on their food portion 3) Reasonable price 4) They open at night!!! Perfect place for having supper If you wish to dine in the morning, please do arrive early as it gets packed very quickly. Oh yes, please go try the soya bean from the uncle who runs a stall outside. It is delicious and the uncle is extremely friendly. Good customer service wins my heart! Back to Jin Xuan, you may try their spread of steamed buns, siew mai and har gor. Their fried spread is quite meh but really it is up to your own liking. My fiancé and I think that their standard can sometimes be a little inconsistent. Our visit today was quite disappointing as we thought the food was a little soggy. Anyway, I’d still say to give this place a try. p/s: we concluded that food served in the morning would probably taste better as it is made fresh from the pots, ovens etc. :) There are also other branches in Kuchai Lama, Damansara Uptown, PJ1, Kota Damansara and Puchong.
