I am at it again with my favorite ritual during rainy seasons, which is snuggling up to the hot, blood-warming pot of tom yum. It has been a constant ritual ever since I was young — so now you know my affairs with Thai food. Anyway, it was a serious downpour. It was like heaven broke loose and decided to bombard us with rain. Literally. As we were driving along Taman Desa, we spotted a hidden gem of a restaurant called Rayong Thai. Naivety and hunger took control of our senses, hence, we wanted to try this restaurant out. We parked our car, and the first thing I noticed about this restaurant was, despite the cold rain, I witnessed a couple at a table as we entered — they were sweating! How is that even possible?! It’s like raining bricks of ice out there. However, this made me excited to try out their specialties. The price range was RM6-RM18, depending on what would satisfy your taste buds. We ordered their tom yum(I don’t see why I have to further emphasize this), their stir fry vegetables, their fish cakes(which I didn’t eat because… hi I’m vegan). The service was excellent. We were treated politely, the food came in less than 20 minutes and the serving sizes were rather big. SCORE. Let me tell you, their tom yum was SPICY. It was like a hell party in my mouth. Their stir fry was good too. As we made our way into desserts, we had the coconut milk puddings which were very velvety and sweet, which sent my taste buds tingling. We also ordered their«Tub Tim Krub» which is the Thai version of shaved ice flavored with sweetened coconut milk and decorated with jackfruit and some red chestnuts. Sinful, yes, but no regrets. We also had their mango with sticky rice pudding which was also another decadent treat. We ate a lot and we were REALLY satisfied. Plus, the prices were affordable, as well as reasonable. I would definitely recommend Rayong Thai as a checklist for those who loves indulging in Thai food, not to mention spicy!
