My family have been here few time for lunch and I like their nasi bryani the most ! Although it is a little pricey but I still like to eat thier nasi briyani because I personally think that it is really delicious. I have been to the Pavillion brunch and the service is good. So when my auntie came back from Singapore, my mother decides to bring her to the mid valley brunch to have a try. I am really dissatisfied with attitude of thier waiters! My cousin brother from Singapore is just 3 years old at that time and obviously kids will be naughty at that age. My cousin actually took a spoon and knock on the table while we are busying ordering the food. My auntie try to stop him but he does not want to listen. Then there was this waiter standing there and waiting for our order suddenly snatch away the spoon from my little cousin and he ask another waiter to take away all the spoon that was originally placed on the table ! After that he did not say sorry to my auntie. Although is my little cousin fault but I think that he have no rights to snatch away the spoon from a little boy ! That was tge last time we visited the mid valley brunch and we will never go there again!

Believe it or not, when this restaurant first opened, there used to be a smoking section inside? That’s why my friends and I loved to eat here, it was air-conditioned and there was a section where you could actually enjoy your meal and a ciggie after. It was delightful. All of a sudden our world came crashing down when the whole world decided to become health-conscious for no apparent reason. Well I know the reason but I refuse to state it. Everyone is secretly going home and flushing their tobacco down the toilets and we didn’t seem to get that memo. I still do go for a quick lunch here now and again, but never for dinner. You see you could do a quick lunch but never a quick dinner, have you noticed that? During lunch hour you sit down and order your food. Your food arrives and you gobble it out without choking yourself and fifteen minutes later you already have to make your way back to the office. But you can never do that with dinner, it’s a very leisurely meal in my opinion and one I enjoy very much. I would recommend to always make a reservation for dinner especially on weekends and to try their kuey teow goreng. It is to die for. I could eat that by the bucket load. Their range of Nasi Gorengs are also worth a try, they’re all equally good but since I mostly stay away from rice especially during dinner, I only have them for lunch. And remember, no smoking. Apparently it’s unhealthy.

I never comprehended the rave about this place. To me, it’s a restaurant that sells local food at a very large price tag but lack in presentation and flavor. Starting with their nasi-lemak, paying over RM20+ for a plate of nasi lemak is just ridiculous, the ikan bilis sambal tasted very bland and lacked oomph, the rice was not fragrant as If they skipped the whole coconut milk part, and trying very hard to make up for the price tag, they include two tiny pieces of chicken rendang which did not taste close to authentic rendang. Moving on to Nasi Bojari, another over-priced dish that lack in flavor. This dish comprises of a three coloured red yellow white rice that has herbs material, served with assam prawns, and shredded beef redang as sides, and they throw in a piece of fried chicken which I have tasted much better and is incomparable. And I don’t get restaurants that don’t provide free drinking water and force you to order something off the menu. But they do compensate by providing top notch service.

Madam Kwan have been around for years, serving amazing Malaysian dish. Their vegetables stir fry sambal is my weak point, yummmehh just too deliciously cooked. You should try their stir fry beef kuey teow, nasi lemak, ABC, mee mamak, laksa and the list will go on and on. Protip: Eating here is not cheap at all for Malaysian dish, expect to pay the same amount like you’re eating in a Korean and Japanese outlet. Protip No. 2: I have been to different outlets and get served with different quality of food. The dishes are not consistent, but you can go to the one in Pavilion, it’s the best in my opinion. The one in One Utama and KLCC is quite disappointing sad to say.

If you have friends visiting from other countries, this is one of the place that can save you the hassle to having bring them to different places just try to out malaysian food. In fact, i came here while my friend was visiting from ipoh, but we are craving for some nasi lemak. However, i come to learn that they don’t only serve nasi lemak here but also nasi bojari — a three colour rice with fried chicken whole leg and two other sides. I must not leave out my compliment and expression of my love towards their fried chicken here — very crispy and golden yellow in colour, not oily at ALL, and very tender and moist inside! Yes — that’s how good it is and I’m not exaggerating. They do have very wide selection of foods here, so spoil yourself with all the choices given. Prices wise, it’s slightly more expensive than most of the local delicacies restaurant but given the environment and good food quality provided, i think it’s worth the price. The ambience here is a bit dark if you ask me — almost so dark you’d feel hidden. It could get a bit noisy as well during peak hours. But, overall the place is still comfortable. If you are craving for good local foods and don’t mind paying a bit more, this is a good place to go for!

It is very standard meal and quality at all Madam Kwan’s. Famous for the nasi lemak and their blue rice dish, one may eat at Madam Kwan’s feeling a little bit more posh as compared to dining in a simple food court or a hawker stall environment. Cleanliness, organised staff, attentive waiters and good quality of the food but with a higher price to pay. One would feels this way but for me, one time at Madam Kwan’s @ Mid Valley, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. I was running late for dinner that night and made it just in time before their kitchen closes. I quickly ordered the nasi lemak but was told they had run out of chicken rendang. That’s alright since it was already late. I ordered something else. The food came pretty fast, probably because they want me to eat and leave fast. And yes, that was they wanted. The food wasn’t really hot, and I could tell it may have be just heated up in the microwave or something. Well, I understand that they had been working for the entire day, just let it slide this once. What made things worse was when I saw a cockroach crawling on the table, mind you, it was a big one and I think it could fly! Not that I am scared of roaches but I felt the cleanliness wasn’t up to par. If there’s one big cockroach, I’m sure there will be hatcheries of little roaches around. I told the waiter about it, and he apologised, he even helped got rid of it. But nonetheless, I expected more(cleanliness) and next time I will know to not come so late to have dinner here.

As you might have noticed, I love eating Malaysian food, and of course, Madam Kwan’s is one of the few places in Malaysia that sells high quality Malaysian food in a high price(or affordable one, depending on how your taste-price ratio works out). The one thing that I will constantly eat all the time whenever I decide to eat in this restaurant is its wat dan hor, or Chinese style egg noodles as translated. The soft, brown noodles are soaked in briny, yolky egg sauce coupled with beef and soy sauce, making it an enjoyable delicacy that can be shared with your loved ones. In fact, I like most of their dishes, and it has never failed to disappoint me, unless, well, you are in a bad mood, and everything you put in your mouth is as bad as Iggy Azalea rapping. The only drawback to note though is its price. For a hefty price of RM15−20, you are getting a single person’s portion for each meal, and while you may say that I am a spendthrift, I can only say that I am more of a practical eater; the food, although good, should match the quality of its ingredients, and even when it is fresh, it should not take over two digits to purchase a plate of noodles or rice. I might be wrong, for the food is honestly delicious, and is a blueprint for many Malaysian restaurants to follow. Besides, who could resist Madam Kwan’s friendly smile from her cardboard picture?
