Koong Woh Tong is a Chinese herbal tea room. It has many locations around KL including this one on Petaling Street(aka KL Chinatown). You can also find this chain in shopping centers, most notably at Mid Valley Megamall as they have a location there. If you are looking for a remedy for dehydaration caused by the high heat and warm temperatures in KL, I would recommend having a drink of tea at a Chinese herbal tea shop like Koong Woh Tong. There is a drink called liangcha that helps to regulate and cool down your body. At this shop, you will find a counter at the entrance of this shop with a selection of teas displayed with covers on top. You choose the drink you want, pay for it and then drink the bowl of tea on the spot. They have different kinds of tea to choose from, but I ask for the sour variety of liangcha that I am most used to drinking. It is an acquired taste. The first time you drink this concoction, it might remind you of the first time you drank coffee. The tea is really inexpensive. A bowl of liangcha is only RM1.70(less than $.50US). In addition to liangcha, they also offer gui ling gao(aka Chinese herbal jelly). This is great for addressing body heat issues, but also good for your skin in clearing up impurities. This«dessert» isn’t for everyone though. I tried it before in HK, but not here. It is extremely sour, more so than the liangcha. And some people will object to the fact that it is made from tortoise shell. If you are looking to beat the KL heat, I recommend trying a bowl of liangcha at Koong Woh Tong. It will taste like medicine, but it is the remedy for what ails you.
