Some members of service staff barely speak English; others well versed. But all are so, so polite. They bow almost constantly. They hand you everything with both hands(Japanese politesse). For RM39(~ US$ 10.50), I get a piping hot bowl or tasty ramen with sliced lean pork as starter. The shredded wood ear provides a nice crunchy contrast to the soft noodles. The broth is flavorful. Then come six pieces of gyoza. They are small dumplings filled minced pork and vegetable. The waiter very carefully mixes soy sauce, vinegar & layu(no idea what it is) in a small bowl for me. He wants to make sure I know how to enjoy these dumplings. He is so careful & polite. It’s almost funny. The iced Japanese green tea costs RM2(~US$ 0.50) but is a bit watered down. But refills are free. The tempura chicken over rice with mini salad is the final course. The batter is very light, but lacks taste. The chicken inside has no flavor and is a bit dry. The sauce drizzled over the rice does not add much. Overall, a disappointing dish. Maybe there is dessert items on the menu, but I fail to see them. But then again, I walk out of this restaurant very full for ~US$ 11. There are other types of ramen noodle soup I like to try. So I will be back during my stay in Penang.
