Marugameseimen Shinjuku Mitsui Bill

It’s a chain, so you know, whatevs. I like udon. I like cheap. So in theory, I like this place. And in reality, I’m there quite often. But I have some «ehhhh» feelings.
My main issue, and possibly my only issue with this particular location, is just how inefficient they seem intent on being. It’s in one of Shinjuku’s larger office buildings, so around lunch time a lot of the workers are trying to scramble to get food before they head back up to the office for the next 8+ hours. You know, because Japan.
Marugame has set up a window specifically for take out orders during lunch. In theory, it’s supposed to be fast and easy. In practice? Not so much. Much of the time they have one dude working the window who doesn’t seem terribly aware that he’s moving incredibly slowly, or that there’s probably a few things that can be done to shorten the time from order to transaction. He’s not new to the job, so, I’m not really sure what’s going on there. On the rare occasion that there are two bodies running the window, udon goes out super fast, but they choose to handle the lunch rush in a different way most of the time, so the majority of the time it’s just one guys versus a line of hungry salarymen and OLs.
The food is good and cheap. But it could be run so much smoother!
