I visited the Mikkeller’s in Copenhagen last Fall. It was great with some totally ass kick craft beers. Unfortunately the Tokyo branch has closed.

Lovely relaxed bar that feels bright and lively. Beers are a little bit expensive, but are well worth the prices. Lots of different taps to try as week. Food, while limited went really well with the beers we had. Great staff team as well.

Not really a place I was intending on visiting while in Tokyo but when we happened to walk past it, we decided that it could be nice with some beer. The set-up is similar to other bars that the Danish brewer Mikkeller runs around the world(I have been to the one in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Barcelona, Reykjavik, Bangkok and San Diego before this one). In Tokyo they have 20 beers on tap and a some by the bottle. The selection is of course mainly Mikkeller but also other nice craft breweries. To some extent I like the atmosphere and feel of this place more than many of the others. First the staff were nice, friendly and not too beer-geeky. There was also plenty of space and not too many people, despite it being a weekend evening. The selection of music was also nice(if you like some Scandinavian pop and alternative music) and it was kept as background music so stll possible to talk. The price level was also very decent, cheaper than the same beers at the Mikkeller bar in Stockholm so that was a nice surprise. They also had some cool cold brews from Fuglen for sale. All in all a great place to go for some craft beer.

Just gotta love Mikkeller beer! Even tho when in Japan id rather go with local beer but Mikkeller would be the exception to the rule. Nice quality brews no matter where in the world ya have it. Nice get away close to the Shibuya crossing. Always try the beer geek series if available.

Looking for a great selection of craft beer and want to take a break away from the crowded Shibuya streets? Give this place a try. A fellow Unilocaler told me that I must check this place out from her experiences enjoying ones in Europe. Easy day! Took some friends there on a Tuesday and on New Year’s Eve. The beer: 20 craft beers on tap. Guest beers are to the right. The Udagawa wit beer was ok. My favorite was the Beer Geek Breakfast Brunch Big Blend Oatmeal stout. Smooth but only served in half pints. On the board if you only see one price it’s a half pint. The atmosphere: it’s a hipster kinda of place so you will here pop/house music blasting. Not my thing but hey… I’m here for the beer. I like the location. Tucked in a smaller and less crowded street minutes from Shibuya Station. There’s not much room in here. A few tables, standing only tables and a long bench with mini tables. Enjoyed having a few inside on the bench and outside. Service: they do a great job serving beer and getting people through the beer lines. For New Year’s the bar tenders provided us with some pull string poppers for the final countdown. Glad they were open. The crossing area was getting out of hand. Worth the visit. Get some! #2/100 for 2016

While Mikkeller Tokyo may not have as many taps as Mikkeller SF or have the stellar netherworldly bottle selection or a cool hidden underground sour room like Mikkeller SF, it holds its own in terms of the vibe and the unique image that Mikkeller seems to be striving so hard to express in all his bars. In true gypsy brewing fashion, Mikkeller Tokyo is tucked away in an inconspicuous basement smack dab in the middle of sleepy Udagawa away from all the hustle and bustle of Shibuya which is only a mere blocks away from the establishment. Whereas Mikkeller Tokyo is certainly not a bar you’d notice while randomly strolling around the neighborhood, the fact remains unchanged that it’s a safe haven, or an oasis if you will, for beer geeks and enthusiasts alike struggling to put up with and/or get away from the hardships of the 12 hour work day.

Clubby Danish craft beer spot in Shibuya. This place has a good selection of its own(it is a Danish craft beer company) and also some local craft beers on tap. The place is cool looking in the«Euro club» kind of way and doesn’t seem to fit with the cheap izakayas that seem to surround it, and as you would expect the prices are definitely not cheap. And judging from my visit, it seems that this is the«gaijin» hipster hangout of Shibuya. Seriously, aside from a couple of Japanese staff and couple Japanese customers it was mostly foreigners in this bar for the majority of the time we were there. It was nice to feel like we were back home in the States somewhere even for a little bit. My friend and I only planned on having one or two, but squeezed in four beers each by the time we got out with our tattered wallets and loose change. We were ready to leave by our second drink but somehow thought it over and decided to stay. Let’s say Led Zeppelin playing in the background was a plus(before that they had some mellow jazzy stuff playing). Details of applicable(out of 5 stars) Value: 3 The beers were great, but definitely priced a bit too high for what I’m used to paying. Menu/selection: 5 Fantastic selection. Quality: 5 Fantastic beers. Service/staff: 5 Fantastic service. And one in particular was very easy on the eyes. Ambiance: 5 Cool spot, might seem a bit pretentious maybe, but it’s fine. I can deal with it. Definitely worth checking out if even for a beer.
