We discovered this place while searching for Tokyo cheap eats for a place to have breakfast and this place just so happened to be near where we were staying. So glad we came here! They seem to take a very scientific approach to their coffee using beakers to hold coffee beans and having periodic elements to brand their coffee. I had the croque Monsieur combo for breakfast and it was delicious! The sandwich wasn’t super crunchy which is the way I like it but that’s personal preference. The coffee here is pretty good and there’s an info sheet about it when they serve it to you. It’s a cute and comfortable place, I would come back! Free wifi!

Nice coffee and dessert :) Like how they have a open bar so you can see how your coffee is made :)

The newly opened Coutume Café is a faithful reincarnation of the original Paris café, complete with top-of-the-line equipment featured on pristine, white-tiled counters — this includes a one-of-a-kind Synesso espresso machine, a glass cold-drip set-up, and the only Alpha-Dominiche Steam Punk in the Tokyo area — a piece of equipment I’m told gives baristas an unparalleled measure of control over the brewing process. Coutume offers a wide variety of coffee, including a special Aoyama blend — a mild, easy-to-drink brew with a gentle aftertaste — designed specifically to ease Tokyoites into the world of specialty coffee. I found it was a little too mild for my taste, but I was happy to find that the drip coffee varieties cycle daily. Their micro-lot espresso is also worth a try. In the food department, light sandwiches and desserts are available, but I’d recommend going with the bakery items, which are sourced from Gontran Cherrier Tokyo(another fellow Parisian import in Tokyo). They do a great interpretation of melon pan — a classic Japanese favorite — with a sweet, crunchy top hiding a soft, cake-like interior. Coutume will soon be offering weekend coffee cuppings on Saturday mornings, and are actively looking at ways to improve coffee education in the area. If you’re interested, I recommend stopping by and asking about it — the staff were very helpful last time I was there. Coutume has only just started up, but their persistence for quality is readily apparent, and I think this might be a place worth keeping an eye on!
