We went here for a quick bite because other restaurants were crowded with Luminaria visitors. Akashiyaki takoyaki differs in presentation from street takoyaki, which is smothered in brown takoyaki sauce, mayo, katsuobushi, powdered nori, ginger and other goodies. The Akashiyaki version is plain, unadorned takoyaki with a side of mild flavored broth with shredded mitsuba to dip into. This place serves only Akashiyaki and drinks, and most customers order several trays of these dumplings. They are very hot inside and one must take care not to pop the whole thing into one’s mouth. Dip in the soup, take a bite, eat slowly. The chewy piece of octopus inside is an interesting contrast to the pillowy softness of these eggy dumplings. If you are into comfort food, this fast food item will satisfy.
