This Daimaru department store seems to be located in the first-class place of Motomachi area. After this department store was damaged by Great Hanshin and Awaji Earthquake, it was reconstructed. The white building with round nostalgic and profound design at a crossing has good taste. An arch-shaped stone corridor and thick pillars are also characteristic! The European-like building matches fashionable Kobe town well. Both outside and inside has classy ambience. I have ever been to only Umeda, Shinsaibashi, Kyoto and Kobe stores, among the three I like this store best. This is because Umeda and Kyoto stores are almost as same as other modern office buildings and Shinsaibashi store has two large buildings(it bought a former Sogo’s building), and it’s a little hard for me to crave for what I want. The southern building has a tasteful atmosphere, though. Anyway, this Kobe branch has also a tasteful brick annex building, called Kyoryuchi Sanjyu Hachibangai, it was a former warehouse, but now fashionable brand shops or a café are housed in the building.
