One of the best sushi bars in Tokyo. Could an apprentice overcome their master? That is the question with Sushi Takahashi in Ginza. Young Takahashi(still in his 20’s) learned his sushi skills from Sushi Saito, which is arguably the top Sushi Bar in Tokyo. Securing a reservation at Sushi Saito takes an act of god. While Takahashi is becoming very popular among his fans, reservation is not impossible to get. He mentioned at reservations is fairly easy to get for dinner starting at 5PM or 9:30PM. Based on my dinner here, I am certain that Sushi Takahashi will one day become as famous and popular as places like Sushi Saito and Sushi Mitani. I recommend that you book your reservation now before the general pubic finds out. Décor: On the first floor of a building in Ginza near Ginza 1-Chome Station. Sushi bar is very small with room for only 8 counter seats. While you don’t need to dress up to come here, I would not go in shorts or sandals. I wore my blue jeans. What to order: Course only. You don’t need to order, since everyone gets Chef’s omakase course. Note that he is very friendly and flexible. You can tell him what you don’t like and he will adjust accordingly. If you cannot eat too much, you can tell him to keep the amount of rice small. Sushi: Great quality. It is hard to top this. His style is traditional Edo Style sushi with a bit of non-nigiri items sprinkled in. At Sushi Saito, all you get is sushi. Here, he has several«tsumami»(appetizers for sake) that are non-sushi dishes. For example, on the night I went, he served us some simmered Red Mutsu fish inside ponzu sauce. He also served an excellent cooked crab dish. His grilled eel dish was also awesome. Kids: If you served the entire place(make a reservation for 8 people), then you are allowed to bring a child. We had the entire place to ourselves, so one of my friends brought her 1 year-old son. She was able to park the baby cart next to her at the counter. Alcohol: You can bring your own wine or sake for 3000 Yen per bottle. They unfortunately do not have beer on tap. They only carry Santory Premium Malts in a bottle. Price: I paid 22,000 Yen for dinner and drinks. I became completely full.
