Among all of the restaurants on the main walk along the front of Jndaiji temple proper, this is my favorite. I’ve tried them all and this one wins for a number of reasons: * Storefront Japanese sweets: Best prices, quality and service. As mentioned in my tips, nice benches with cushions and complimentary Japanese green tea provided free for customers enjoying the quick treats. * Store staff: Friendly, attentive without being buy, buy, buy! pushy. Very happy and willing to recommend choices from among their numerous offerings. * Restaurant space: Choice of indoor and outdoor seating, chairs or traditional Japanese tatami mat seating(inside only, obviously); clean but not hospital clean antiseptic; a nice homey feel. * Soba and menu: Similar offerings as other establishments but the presentation, quality and sense of value is higher, even if the prices are the same. In fact, in some cases the prices are higher, but worth it. * Atmosphere: The layout, décor and setting feel authentic without getting overly touristy or too traditionally stuffy. My favorite seat is a two-person table outside next to a small pond — it feels like eating in a Japanese garden(which isn’t done) — ambiance counts! When you’re done enjoying your soba and sweets, stop next door and try your hand a creating your own painted pottery. Inexpensive and fun for kids and adults alike.
