Located on the edge of Chofu Airport, this quaint café is a hidden gem in an unexpected place. Why? First of all, it utilizes half of the floor space of an aircraft hangar. There are offices directly upstairs but the other half is devoted to aircraft. The entrance and building face are also unassuming. Here, one complete side of the café faces the hangar area containing small and mid-sized planes, a helicopter and whatever else is being repaired on a given day. If you’re into seeing aircraft up close, this place is über cool. Now the menu — they must have new kitchen staff as the menu has expanded greatly with more than twice as many offerings of both main dishes and desserts than before. The stand-by dishes, loco moco(excellent!), Propeller Café burger(excellent) and BLT(über excellent) are still on the menu, thankfully. However, I ventured into uncharted skies today with the cheese tarter fish burger. One word: Excellent! The fish(cod) was lightly battered and covered with just the right amount of bread crumbs — all deep fried so it retained a nice aromatic crunch with moist, juicy fish inside. A nice tarter sauce and real cheddar cheese(rare in Japan) plus lettuce, onions an tomato all on a grilled bun made the sandwich complete. The sandwich came with a mountain of thin cut fries, or more like«a burger with your fries, sir?» I figured the volume was about two orders of M sized fries at McDs(see photo). Ketchup and mustard(both Kraft?), came separately in squeeze bottles, not the cheapskate little packets seen at other restaurants. Lunchtime is from 11:00 — 2:00, and I think you get a drink and/or discount on a dessert during that time. Two special lunch plates(new) are also offered at that time. I was too late for lunch today so just went with the entrée. The dessert menu is very expanded, but personally, I recommend the cheesecake. Thick, heavy, creamy, fattening — all the essentials of good cheesecake. Very different from the fluff other restaurants try to pass off as baked cheesecake. The place takes time and effort to find, but well worth it. Expect to wait if you go on a weekend.
