Doutor is one of the biggest coffee shop chains in Japan, and you’re guaranteed to find at least one(if not more) near almost every station anywhere. They feature light food items(pastries, hot dogs, sandwiches) plus a pretty standard menu of coffee and tea drinks. This is no true gourmet coffee chain, so set your sights on the competition if that’s your thirst calling. However, for«just coffee,» they’re consistent. Some will say consistently bad, but that’s a personal preference. Prices are reasonable, and the staff try to be friendly or at least follow the CS manual. Customers tend to be salarymen, retired folks and a few students or nomads. They recently began offering fairly fast wifi(free; see my photos/tips), but my portable router blew theirs away in terms of signal strength, speed and throughput performance. I usually sit furthest away from the entrance/windows to test reception. Seating at most Doutors tends to be somewhat cramped and lighting is a bit dingy. The newest outlets are a welcome change from the old style offering more space, decorative colors and brighter interior lighting — you’ll see a review of a newer example later.
