We’ve been in Rome for 5 days so far and we were lucky to find this one. Mediocre at best where some of the other restaurants we have tried. But Toto has been a gem. And we plan to return after long days of walking and seeing the sights. By no means is this the«best restaurant ever», but it’s very good. The service is great, helped along by Arturo our waiter. The place was slow at 9 in the evening but we have heard from several other establishments it was due to the current state of world affairs(Paris attacks, etc). The other restaurants are slow as well. Our food was great, perfectly cooked ravioli with a seafood sauce, Osso Bucco was nice, the Caprese was simple as should be and fresh. Seared Salmon with perfect mashed potatoes and Roman meatballs that was light yet satisfying. For us it feels like a home base — a go to refuge — if we are running late or just exhausted from a long day. All in all we will be back while we are in Rome.

We spotted Toto in the early evening, attracted by the lovely outside area, and returned after a few drinks down the street. After a day of travelling, we were eating very early for the area, so the restaurant was empty other than a few drinkers outside. We were warmly greeted and chose our table, then quickly presented with a free half glass of prosecco whilst looking over the menu. Bread was also provided, with the usual circa € 2 price per head, but we can never resist a nibble! Neither of us were in the mood for a complex meal and went straight in for main dishes. My cheese and three pepper pasta(a popular combination in the restaurants of Rome, and well worth it) was simple but very well executed. The pasta was perfectly al dente with the sauce complementing rather than overpowering. The other half’s macaroni with meat ragu was similar in simplicity, with a bit more depth of flavour due to the meat but still the same balance between pasta and sauce. Service was friendly throughout and never too overpowering. There was a waitress in training who was very sweet and practised some English with us when delivering the bill. Not a stand out meal but a nice first night in the city for us.

Was seated on the mostly empty side street patio by the hostess with my wife and daughter. The hostess parked our stroller on the side and left to get us menus. I stood up to take a picture of my family and was screamed at by a creepy old woman who said we had to order food if we were going to take a picture. I told her we had been seated and were waiting on our menus and then she screamed at us to move our stroller. I told her that the hostess had put it there and asked if she didnt want us to eay there, because there are a thousand other restaurants nearby that would be happy to serve us and not treat us poorly. She mumbled some crap about the hostess making a mistake and we left the half empty restaurant and had a fine meal a half block away at another restaurant. In reading other reviews it seems like a common theme here to treat people rudely… probably not a great strategy considering tourism is so slow at the moment.

Absoluter kleiner Geheimtipp. Perfektes Risotto, Handmade Lasagne sowie Parmigiana und geniale Lage in der Nähe der Luxusstores in Rom. Hier gibt es alles zu sehen ;-) Preis Leistung absolut in Ordnung

My appetizer of melon and prosciutto was fantastic, but both of the entrees were disappointing. The veal was pounded extremely thin, then overcooked. And the pasta was definitely not one of the better ones I had.

While the food was excellent the painfully slow service and self righteous owner entirely ruined the meal for us. Also the prices are high considering how small and casual the restaurant is– everything is a good 5 – 10 euros more than other restaurants nearby… While the restaurant was half full it took an hour for each course and we were constantly asking or reminding our server to bring our drinks or when the food would be ready… With service this poor you lose your appetite before you even get your meal

We had, by far, our best meal of a 2 week Italy trip here — better than Florence and Positano places… We were there in June 2012 We stumbled on Toto after leaving the Spanish Steps area. Our food was incredible memorable: Buffalo Mozzarella was the stand out — best we’ve ever had. Must order. I had the special, which was homemade pasta with truffles — big pieces of delicious truffle. I was in heaven. My husband had pasta in arrabbiata sauce. We sent friends to this place a week after we went and they raved about the pasta and buffalo moz. as well! Visited June 2012

Two of us had seared tuna with a sesame crust and basmati rice. The rice had cucumber and sesame with a rich reduction of balsamic vinegar. OMG. The tuna was the best I have EVER had, no matter where in the world I have been. I also had the clams and mussels… clams salty but perfect. Loved the mussels, surpassing the Maine coast. Pretty pricey, but would do it again to taste the perfect tuna… BC Shauver, Jacksonville, FL, 12 oct 12

Very bad service and mediocre food. Waited a half an hour for an appetizer and for more than an hour for dinner. Location is very nice, cozy and not that to much touristy in spite of close proximity to the Spanish squire. No desire to go back.

My husband and I went here for dinner on our honeymoon. Located near the Spanish Steps the area is very touristy but this street is very cozy and cute. We have an excellent server who was very sweet and attentive and the food was good but It wasn’t memorable because neither of us can remember what we had. It was mostly about the atmosphere and charm which it had a lot of. Doesnt hurt that the night was beautiful.
