Just got back from a visit to Rome where we spent 4 nights in the Hotel Astrid. I only chose this hotel because friends who I was meeting in Rome chose this hotel. It is only about a 15 minute walk to the Stadio Olimpico and since we were going to see the Italy — Ireland Six Nations rugby, this was a very good choice. The hotel was cheaper than most that would be right downtown. The positive thing here is that it is still in Rome but not in the congested downtown area. Besides, it’s just a 2 block walk to get to the tram that will bring you to Piazza Popolo in about 15 minutes. Now for the hotel… I loved it. Other than location, the room was very clean with comfortable beds and a refrigerator/mini-bar with FREE stuff in it. Well, no alcohol but water, snacks, etc. The bad thing was that there were only a few tv channels and none in English, or any language other than Italian. I kinda missed watching CNN in a hotel room. The breakfast was very good as well. There is coffee and tea but you can ask one of the ladies working in the breakfast room and they’ll make you a cappuccino or espresso. You can have toast with either jams or ham and cheese and salami. There is also pineapple and orange juice and some croissants and cereal. Oh, yogurt too! And of course, a great plus is the free wifi!

Hotel is clean and close to the tram. Laura at the front desk is helpful and friendly while Andrea(male) is abrupt. Breakfast area is very nice and located on the upper floor offering a nice view of the Vatican. Mini fridge is stocked with non alcoholic beverages which is fantastic. Location is a tram ride into the subway system and while a bit remote is is clean and safe.

Two thumbs up for this hotel. The service was truly excellent and the hotel itself was fairly nice for the money, with a good location right near the tram(which comes very quickly) which takes you to the metro in a couple minutes. The breakfast was awesome as well, with a great selection of foods(thank you thank you for the nutella packets!) and a beautiful view. Two thumbs up — would definitely stay here again.
