Eating Italy Food Tours

Took the Taste of Testaccio Tour on a rainy day in October with Valentina C. She was a very personable and knowledgeable food tour guide!
The meeting place was easy to find and the stops were all very close together. Visiting multiple different types of shops, restaurants, delis, gelaterrias, Valentina explained the history of the town and the places we stopped.
The market was a great stop and sit-​down restaurant were very good. The owners of every place we stopped were more than accommodating and very friendly. Some even let us come behind the counter for photos!
This tour was a highlight of our stop in Rome!

We had the pleasure of touring Testaccio with our guide Emma. She was both fun and knowledgeable. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Rome. Best to tour at the beginning of your trip in order to take advantage of all the insider tips she provides. The colorful people we met at each stop also added to our tour enjoyment. The food was tasty too. They even accommodated the vegetarian in our group.

IF you want to add the WOW factor to your time in Italy this is the thing to do. Excellent tour guides, excellent service from the company (they really helped by storing our luggage as we were just coming off of a cruise ship and helped us get the best taxi back to the airport so we didn’t miss our flight!) And the food… let’s just say I didn’t think I liked Italian food until I took this tour! It was the best of the best of everything. It was our very favorite thing we did in Italy and we dined in Sorento, had Pizza in Naples saw Pompeii and all the sites in Rome. We took home treasures from the little family owned food shops we visited and and they were savored and such a treat to enjoy with family and friends back home. This tour is not to be missed. A+++.
PS – I’m now a fan of Italian food but only if its authentic and from Rome!!! YUM YUM!!!

We really enjoyed the Testaccio food tour. Was planned perfectly. I was full, but happy in the end. Everything was delicious and insightful. This was a highlight of the trip. And a great was to know the neighborhood — which is not super touristy!

We did the Taste of Testaccio tour because the neighborhood is known for authentic Italian food and is outside of the touristy area in central Rome. The Testaccio area is still walking distance or a short metro ride from central Rome.

The tour was 4 hours filled with so many different dishes, so much food, so much fun and entertainment. Our guide Domenico was so funny and charming. He had the whole group laughing away the whole day while we indulged in full portions of amazing food. We were told great insider stories about his life and experiences in Rome and given little secrets about gelato, pasta, pizza, overall everything Italian in terms of food.
Book the tour! You won’t regret it!

This was a great way of seeing (and experiencing) genuine Italian cuisine! Our tour lasted several hours and took us to a well composed variety of various local restaurants and small food shops along the way. Giving us the entire time great opportunities of tasting and sampling food and wine and also giving insight, knowledge and tips into the Italian kitchen and lifestyle though our very pleasant and knowledgeable tour guide. Our group also bonded during the tour (just as our guide said we would…) and we all enjoyed pleasant conversation with other group members on our walks between the eateries.
Also on the upside is that the entire tour was held in a part of Rome that I’d never visited before and most likely wouldn’t have had reason to visit if not for this very food tour. It’s an old genuine residential area on the opposite side of the river from the Colosseum and the other highly populated tourist areas of the city. So if you wish to eat where the people of Rome themselves would choose to eat, this looks to be the right place!
The tour was well worth the money it cost and the time we spent in and out of the eight different restaoúrants and shops we stopped by along the way.
From now on I’m looking for the best local food tours I can find when I visit a new large city.

I can’t rate the Eating Italy tours more highly! We had Gigi, an incredibly knowledgable expat with flawless Italian and endless enthusiasm as our guide, and she led us around culinary and cultural sites — with ample tastings along the way. Basically, if you like your food, enjoy experiencing a culture through your tastebuds and have a few hours to deliciously wander your way around Testaccio, don’t hesitate to join the tour! For the fair tour price you are amply fed, learn how to eat like a local, learn the history of the cuisines, meet lovely shopkeepers and can buy stuff along the way too if you like. Best € 75 spent!

It has been almost 3 years since our food tour but since I still think about it often (and now book a food tour in almost every city I visit) I thought I should probably take some time to leave a five star review.
This food tour was the highlight of our trip to Rome. That includes the sistine chapel. Call me crazy, but I’d rather have wine and gelato than art any day. Highly recommended. I don’t want to get into to much detail due to my tour being so long ago, but it was wonderful afternoon.

My husband and I did the Twilight Trastevere Food Tour last week during our time in Rome and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide was Sara and she was informative and super fun, had us smiling and laughing all night. It was interesting to explore the Trastevere neighborhood, it is not one of your typical tourist spots and it gave a glimpse into life for those who live in Rome. Our group was small with only 7 people, which made it easy to hear everything that Sara said and ask questions about the food and the culture.
Our favorite stops were having drinks in a wine cellar that is older than the Colosseum, the cookie shop, and of course the artisan gelato. The suppli was delicious and we wish we could find it back home, it is out new favorite Roman street food. It was a fun night and 4 hours flew by, a great introduction to Roman food and culture.
Make sure to wear comfy shoes because this tour does have a good amount of walking, and some standing on certain stops.

My friend and I booked the twilight trestavere tour the night we arrived in Rome and it really got us excited for the city after a long flight. Our tour guides Jasmine and francesco were super knowledgeable and friendly. The small size of this tour makes it easy to chat with the other visitors as well as the guides to make a mote intimate and special tour.
You get to walk at a nice pace and stop in several foodie dream restaurants and shops that are owned, operated, and frequented by the locals. The food samples and pasta privided at the end of the tour are more than enough for dinner and you get a couple of glasses of wine to boot.
Everyone in our tour group left full, educated, and extremely happy. I highly recommend this tour to anyone and look forward to my next visit so I can book another one!

This is a foodie heavens paradise! It came highly recommended by a fellow foodie and we were warned that it isn’t for the penny-​conscious, but we were intrigued.
It’s a walking food and cultural/​history tour of Testaccio, home of the middle class of Rome. This was also a perfect place to experience Rome away as a typical Roman and AWAY from the throng of tourists (sorry, but we were completely sick of that); it was definitely nice to be around locals in their neighborhoods and in quieter areas, versus millions of groups of tourists and pick-​pocketers. You get samples of traditional/​typical/​local foods and the history behind each of it (I don’t want to tell you everything to give away too much, but for the local market lovers, you stop by one!). You also get to sit down for a light lunch. Last, you get some time to buy some goodies to take away, and you move at a very steady pace (not slow that you want to kill yourself, but you stroll leisurely). Our group of 12 were the only non-​local group sans the 9:00 am group.
Gigi was amazing! She was friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and entertaining. No «I’m forced to do this tour» attitude, but really passionate and enthusiastic and made the walking tour truly spectacular.
I def recommend doing this within the first day or so that you are there because it gives you way more ideas of food places to try. Worth every penny! Thank you Gigi!

The Daylight Trastevere Food Tour is fantastic. My family of four, including 17 and 20 year old daughters, took the tour on a day when it was pouring (the only day it rained on our two week Italy vacation). After 20 minutes of tasting and talking we forgot about the rain got totally engrossed in the tour. Anna, originally from the US, took us to visit what seemed to be her friends and proceeded to stuff us with Trestevere delicacies. By time the tour was over, that sun had come out, we were culturally enriched, and stuffed with great food and wine. This was such a good experience that next time I am in Rome, and there will be a next time, I will take the Taste Of Testaccio tour. They also have tours in London, Amsterdam and Prague, and when I find myself in any of those cities I will definitely try to take one of their tours.

Went on the Testaccio tour. Armed with my iphone and an offline map, I managed to find this place with no problems. The meeting place is right outside a beer shop, and they have wooden benches and tables surrounded by fencing from the street.
First off, come to this tour starving… they will feed you. At one point in the middle of the tour we had a sit down lunch and were served 4 types of pasta, family style. It was overwhelming. You’ll also do a lot of walking. Wear comfortable shoes. I did this tour in the middle of July and pretty much sweat out all the water and food I consumed along the tour. Even though I would have given myself off as a tourist, I wish I had an umbrella.
My favorite place on the tour, hands down, was Volpetti’s. Mother. of. God. The proscuitto. I’ve never tasted any meat that was so melt in your mouth and buttery. The truffle cheese. The samples of balsamic vinegar and wines. I wish I could stay there and sample it all. It will be the one place I return to if I ever return to Rome.

Our tour guide was very good. So friendly… every vendor seemed to love him, or maybe that’s just how italians are. He was able to answer some of my questions about culture and graffiti, things that perhaps another tour guide wouldn’t know, since he was an actual local to the area.
Anyway, I highly recommend this tour if you want to see some off the beaten track food stops and a more personalized tour of the city.

I did the 4:45PM Twilight Trastevere tour and loved every single stop on the tour. Trastevere is the hippest area in Rome, filled with cobblestone streets and tons of great restaurants, cafes, and bars. On summer nights, many vendors set up a pop up shop along the Tiber river, which is the perfect place for a date or to hang out with some friends on the evenings. I thought, «What better way to spend my evening than eating my way through my favorite area?» I liked that the tour was later in the evening so the sun wasn’t beating down on us as we walked around.
I wont describe every detail and ruin the surprises for those who haven’t been. Some of the highlights for me were the fresh burrata, underground wine cellar with amazing wine and the most amazing meatball of my life, cookie factory, ancient pharmacy (not open to public), and artisinal gelato w/​unique flavors! Okay, I think I may have given away too many details but words can not describe how amazingthis experience was.
Not only was the food delicious, but our tour guide was great at providing a lot of history and information throughout the tour. I was stuffed like a thanksgiving turkey by the end and couldn’t have imagined a night in Rome ending any better way. The tour was on the pricier side but the portions, quality of food, and insightful information make it worth every penny!

We had Alexandria as our guide during this tour. All the places she took us to were amazing! We got to experience Italian food like the locals. I was never really a cheese lover until we went to Volpetti. It was ridiculously out of this world! Then Volpetti Più made me fall in love with pizza! Thin crisp crust on the outside then soft & fluffy on the outside… nom… all the ingredients were. wow. so fresh. Of course there’s dessert! Barberini — cornetti & tiramisu, Testaccio market — Cannoli, & Giolitti — gelato. I have never seriously tasted food so fresh. If you’re a foodie, you cannot experience Rome without with tour. I will never look at Italian food the same. This is a must!

It was tough to decide between their limited but fabulous food tours, but I decided to eat my way through the Testaccio neighborhood and boy, am I glad I did! I totally lucked out and had the fabulous Emma as my foodie guide. The group wasn’t very big — maybe ten people in total, so this gave everyone an opportunity to get to know Emma and chit chat amongst themselves in-​between bites of delicious food.
This tour took us to seven places: Barberini, Volpetti, Volpetti Più, the Testaccio market, Flavio al Velavevodetto, 100 Pizza and Giolitti. The variety of the tastings on this tour was great — we tried everything from the traditional morning cornetto to pizza to pasta and finally, gelato. Emma was extremely knowledgeable about both the food we were eating and the history behind both the food and this lovely neighborhood. There’s not one thing that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy, and this includes walking from place to place — this allowed me to check out Testaccio and to digest all that food. By the end of the tour, I was thoroughly stuffed, but not in a bad way.
Emma provided us with a pamphlet that detailed all the places we were checking out on our tour, as well as a list of ‘must eat’ places in Rome. I did this tour at the start of my trip which worked out great because I knew exactly what to watch out for when selecting restaurants later in the week. A bonus for me, as a child of literature, was a visit to the stunning English cemetery where Keats and Shelley are buried. It’s positively beautiful and oh so quiet.
Great tour! This is an absolute must if you’re a foodie and want to check out the quintessential Roman foodie neighborhood. One of the best parts? This neighborhood is tourist-​free. How can you not love that?

My husband and I just returned from Rome, and we took the Daylight Trastevere Food Tour with tour guide Jasmine. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Not only was the food fantastic, but Jasmine was terrific. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable, but relaxed and fun, putting everyone at ease. It’s great to take a tour with a small group. We all got to know each other to the point where no one really wanted to part at the end of the tour. A few of us even continued on to another site together to keep the fun going. I would take another tour with Eating Italy in a heartbeat, it was money well spent!

Oh my lord. If there were a six star rating I would happily do so. This tour is a must for any foodies who are new to Rome. The tour guide, who was English, takes you around 8 different eateries over 4 hours where you can sample a smörgåsbord of gastronomic Roman treats from biscuits (or biscotti) to pizza (you also get to see the 100 year old oven it’s made in), to galeto (high overrated in my opinion). The places we were taken to were off the beaten track which meant you’d never discover them without going on this tour. You really get to experience Roman culture. Only avoid if you’re gluten intolerant or vegan (pizza without cheese ain’t fun).
