On my last night in Rome I decided to explore the restaurants close to where I was staying & to my delight I found this family restaurant hidden between two buildings on a small street. The smell of the food was delicious. Upon entering my friends & I were greeted with big smile & the usual«prego» welcome. We sat down, & menus were brought but it took about 10 minutes before the owner came to see us. I could see why, only the pop & mom of this place were running around taking orders, pouring wine, serving plates. Finally the mama came to take our order, she recommended the home made pasta in Italian making gestures on how it’s made it was funny. We also ordered the house wine which was robus but I have to admit had a good robe, was between dry & fruity. We of course asked for panne e olio(bread & olive oil). 10 minutes later we get our plates, pasta was perfectly cooked Al dente the sauces where delicious. We completed the supper with of course famous tiramisu & cheesecake with chestnuts sauce. I was disappointed with the tiramisu. I was expecting a mascarpone cheese but it was done in a custard cream but it was ok. However, the cheesecake was great. I would indefinitely go back to this restaurant because of the homemade food& the welcoming couple.

Nice place close by piazza navona. simple home-style good well prepared. we had some antipasti that maybe seem less appetizing but was really tasty and cacio e Pepe that was really good as well. The service was friendly and accommodating and the place itself has a good vibe

This place is horrible! They do not know how to smile… They put some bread on your table but be careful if you start eating a bite you will end up paying 2 € for it. And on top of it it tasted like crap, we felt it was yesterday’s bread !! The pasta were not fresh… Then we asked for the bill and it took 45 minutes for us in order to get the bill… We do not recommend this place at all. There are many other places around so go somewhere else!

A simple meal for dinner when we needed just that after an overnight flight and walking around Rome all day. The pasta was simple carbonara and had good flavor. But it’s bacon and cheese and egg so that has to be good right? The veal chunks were tender. The bread was stone cold and not that flavorful but it was nice to have with some of the juices of the veal dish. House wine was inexpensive but, warning, tasted so. We split the two plates and that was enough for us. For those on a budget in Rome you could do far worse. Our total was around 30euro for bread, sparkling water, 1 liter of Vino de rosso, and 2 dishes. They just bring you the bread and there is a charge. So we view it as a seating fee even though there is not one.

Mediocre pasta overall. We had the gnocci which were just ok, pasta al pesto which was way too bland(I’ve bought better pesto from the supermarket), and pasta al broccoli which was even blander. Wine of the house was far below an average wine. I asked for tap water and they didn’t bring extra glasses. I definitely do not recommend this place.

Da Tonino is an excellent small restaurant in Rome. We stumbled upon this gem on our way to another spot and came back for dinner after our appetizers at the first stop. The pastas are amazing. Spices beautifully compliment the home made pasta. My husband had the gnocchi which was to die for! He also ordered the rabbit and enjoyed every bite. And then the tiramisu-So light and fluffy and the flavors are smooth and subtle yet purely delightful! The service is great and fast-despite the waiter not speaking English very well– he was patient and attentive. The atmosphere is cozy and bustling. I would love to return soon but more places await me in Rome!

Delicious with run energetic atmosphere. Small place but worth the tight quarter! Good prices and filled with locals.

Pasta was fine, the rabbit is the star of the menu. This was an adequate meal in mediocre ambiance. Well priced. Nothing to complain about, but not particularly memorable either.

Mind. Blown. One of our favorite meals on the honeymoon. We were one of two American couples and waited about 20 min for a table. It was well worth it. The restaurant is super casual and very lively. While the waiter didn’t speak English, he was patient with us and fun. The Cacio e Pepe was outstanding as were the meatballs, artichoke, and rabbit. WHYISN’T RABBITONEVERYMENUINTHEUS? Also loved the tiramisu. Definitely make a stop here for a truly local experience.

Da Tonino was absolutely amazing! I highly recommend coming here for lunch or dinner. The polpetta(meatball) and pasta alla amatriciana(red sauce, bacon, cheese) were delicious. The prices you can’t beat. The staff was friendly and environment was casual. Next time I’m in Roma I will be coming back here.

Hoy hemos comido aqui.

After reading all the reviews I was expecting more; we were disappointed with our meals. Maybe it was an off day because we certainly always saw the line out the door. We order the pasta with mushroom and peas. The peas were mushy and didn’t have a fresh taste to them. No doubt from a can. That’s ok because it sometimes works, but not this time. The pasta carbonara and pasta amatriciana were alright but not the best in the neighborhood. The artichokes were also soggy and not bright tasting. The local antipasto was great as was the service. It is a neat mom and pop place with adorable tables all crammed together. I’ll have to go back and try it again I suppose.

This place deserves the 4 stars I’m giving it and the long line to get in. Overall, the experience was great: excellent pasta, a delicious meatball(there were actually two for me and my wife to share) for a main course and a solid tiramisu to close. The half-liter of house white wasn’t too shabby either. The value-to-price ratio is high. The place is full of natives, which is always a good sign. Follow their lead.

I can recommend Da Tonino, a nice small mom and pop style restaurant in Rome. The food here was great, I tried two dishes, the Pasta Carbonara, and the meatballs. In hindsight, this was overkill for lunch. The portions are generous, and a plate of pasta is more than enough for a hearty lunch. The little bits of bacon/ham in my Pasta Carbonara, were a huge delight. Something about chunks of pork fat in my pasta is appealing on so many levels. My only regret is not being able to try all the different pasta sauces available. I would have loved to try the arrabiata or amatriciana sauces. The gnocchi and Gricia looked good as well. Perhaps next time. I arrived at Noon on a Monday. Maybe it’s early in the day for lunch, but I was able to get a table with no problem. That being said, there were a number of people that came in, and Da Tonino filled quickly. Even still there were a few tables available when we finished. If you get here at noon for lunch you should be fine.

Mom n pop restaurant with a line. We actually had to wait for a table at 2:30pm for lunch. Awesome prices — 8E for the classic Roman pastas. Very limited English spoken here, but you can totally get by. The waitress knew immediately that we were tourists and pointed out the best(or maybe most popular) dishes that they have on the menu. The carbonara was outta this world intense with bacon. We saw multiple people ordering it, so we were more than happy to copy them. We also got the cacio e pepe. I don’t have any other cacio e pepe to compare it to, but it was tasty and I enjoyed it.

Absolutely the best place to eat in rome. Been there 2 times during my visit something I rarely do because I love to explore as much restaurants as possible. Great pasta and awesome tiramisu. Very local and buzzy which makes a wonderful dynamic. And this all for a bargain.

A great place and a welcome escape from the other tourist traps that seem to dominate the city. The food was delicious and brilliant value. The guests were a mix of locals(the Italian couple next to us said it’s one of their favorite places in Rome). We got there at about 8.30 pm and were lucky to get a table. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting and authentic Italian experience!

We ate here on our last night in Rome. I found this place by using the Unilocal app on my phone and was happy to find a more«local» place to get some good, Italian food. Very tiny place and the name is barely visible on the door but we found it! It was packed with people but they were able to sit our party of 6. When I went to the bathroom, you have a clear shot of vision into the kitchen. tiny tiny kitchen with one person running around back there. This was wonderful to see because you can tell it was going to be fresh ingredients and made with love. I ordered the ravioli and a bottle of the house white wine. Ravioli were delicious and the red sauce that came with them was stellar. The wine was everything I would expect from a house white, nothing special. Someone at our table ordered the meatballs, these were huge and also delicious. Only thing I didn’t really enjoy were the attitudes of the staff there. They weren’t very friendly and it would have made for a better experience. Quick Tip! this place is CASHONLY so make sure you have some Euro’s on ya!

Went here tonight for a wonderful meal. We had pasta with pancetta, homemade gnocchi with tomato sauce and eggplant, delicious artichokes a la Romana, chicory(which tasted like a slightly bitter spinach — the chicory in familiar with is more like a bitter lettuce — like escarole). Food and service great. Downsides — crowded, very noisy and limited menu.

Excellent spot for a family style meal in Rome. The street is packed with many different restaurants packed with locals. This particular place was recommended by our landlord. Make sure to go hungry as the porpotrions are great and the prices low. We arrived at opening for dinner(19:00) and the placed was packed until we left.
