A-OK. I got excited at what I thought that what I saw here was the original Liberty Bell, but I am not so sure about it now, as another reviewer here is saying it is a replica… An easy stop while walking to the Ferry, climbing the 99 steps or just shopping around, so one might as well make the stop :-)

Behind Vendor’s Plaza in Charlotte Amalie is Emancipation Park, named for the emancipation of slaves in the Danish West Indies in 1848. There is a bronze bust of a freed slave blowing a conch shell commemorating this day. This quiet square also features a replica of the Liberty Bell. There was plenty of activity in the park both times we were there, with people visiting, catching up on gossip and relaxing on the benches.

A park for freedom Emancipation Park is a relatively small park located right in the center of Charlotte Amalie. What it lacks in size it more than makes up for in historical value. This is a park that commemorates the emancipation of the Dutch West Indies slaves in 1848. Official ceremonies and other events are still held here to honor the event. The park has various statues and plaques explaining what exactly happened back then as well as a cool gazebo that is frequently used for weddings and official events. Lots of pleasant benches to sit on and relax and food trucks right across the street. There is also a replica of the liberty bell that is in Philadelphia. Actually every state and every United States territory has one. Even a little information booth that helps you navigate the island. The park usually has people strolling about along with various pigeons, chickens, roosters and very cool lizards. Quite an interesting combination. Certainly not a large park but one with enormous significance.
