St Cronan’s Holy Well

St Cronan’s Holy Well is located in the field bordered by Lioscian & Ormond Crescent. St Cronan’s Well supplied the local Glasmore Abbey with its water and is dedicated to St Cronan who was the abbot there. Cronan and all of his monks were killed by Danish raiders from Malahide in the seventh century. In recent times the well has suffered neglect and was until recently overgrown with weeds & briars. The farm land on which the well is located is now owned by a property developer and will be built on in the next few years. The hope is that the publicising of the existence/​location of St Cronan’s Well will help to ensure its preservation and eventual restoration
