I was here recently to report my purse being stolen. A nice garda was very thorough in filling my statement. She seemed genuinely interested in what happened. She explained there was recent rise in burglaries in the past few days in South Dublin due to a group of criminal tourists that had arrived to our shores. She suspected they may have been part of this group. CCTV seemed to be a runner, so the next course of action was for the guard to contact the Luas for that. I’ve heard nothing since though. Which is not surprising to be honest as these people are have probably long since gone home with their loot. It’d be nice if someone found the purse discarded somewhere though. I loved that purse :’(

I had a little trouble last year with my card being skimmed. Bank of Ireland’s handling left something to be desired, but the Guards played their part well. I had to explain the situation and dictate a statement to the world’s slowest transcriber(it took about 40 minutes…) and two weeks later the money was back in my account. They turned a complete disaster into merely a small hassle. No idea whether they caught the guy.

In a spot of bother and you’re not sure where to turn? The Rathmines Garda Station are very helpful and express a genuine interest in any problems that you may have in your neighbourhood. They’re very thorough and provide excellent advice. And if you fancy yourself a guard, my friend tells me that there are quite a few fit ones to be found here ;).
