The Red Stables

Nice market that we unintentionally found by following the signs on the Clontarf road when on our way to Sutton one Saturday. And what a lovely setting this market is set in. St Annes Park and a backdrop of a fabulous red brick building.
The veg stall looked well stocked. There was more than one baked goods stall, of which the fare was well presented. The obligatory olives stand. Hand made jewelry.
The highlights for me: —
Sheridans Cheesemongers; we were able to sample everything we were interested in and bought three cheeses as a result!
Free parking
The doggies tied up outside the market gate all looking anxiously for their ownsers return.
Lowlight: —
I got an americano from the coffee stall just inside the gate which tasted awful. I should have followed my gut and left the queue when I saw the milk steamer on the machine was not cleaned after each use, a habit like this is big no-​no. Thanks to the Elite coffee event last year for teaching me this. Unilocal,like a life college :)

Cracking Saturday Market in St. Anne’s Park. It’s small but it’s perfectly formed :-)
When I’ve been there — it has had:
— coffee (from two places — sampled both, and both very good…)
— home baked breads and pastries (one French — served by central-​casting French dude, the other Irish — both excellent)
— olives and flavoured hummus stall
— Sheridan’s cheese, chutneys, etc.
— Organic vegetable market — seriously good selection of Irish sourced organic veg plus a wider variety of quality veg with more food miles on the clock
— Fresh fish — small selection but good
— Cakes, bakery, tart stall
— Pies and excellent sausage roll stall
— Made to order donuts — direct from the cute donut machine!
— Home made organic Muesli and granola
— Organic Meat /​butchers
— Wood fired pizza
— Soap and herbals
— Falafel /​wrap stall
All in all — it’s small but it has something for nearly everyone in a lovely setting. You can do some decent shopping and then grab your lunch there and go eat in the park. Has some parking but it gets busy

the red stables is a lovely little market selling pottery, fresh vegetables and freshly cooked food. its a great idea to have somewhere like this in a public park although there is parking available outside too.
i could spend a long afternoon here with the kids and dogs in the park, walking the long trails, exploring the old ruins, smelling the roses in the rose garden and then end it all with a rest in the red stables drinking coffee, eating lamb burger or stone baked pizza which is so so good. there is also a little picnic area to the front and a playground just around from the stables.

So, the lady with the nice chocolate fudge cake was Pauline. Proper home baking!
On my last visit, Wilde Irish chocolates had a stand too-​he does an array of fudges and chocolates as well as a few chocolate slice things. I got a Rocky road-​I am currently giving myself small bits as a treat when I’ve been particularly good.
There is a cupcake stall-​Rose Cupcakes. No samples though and they weren’t labelled by flavour. They were also all stored in plastic boxes so not that appealing. I may try them at some point. Seriously though, samples are the way to go! Sweet Things the bakery, nice Pauline, the French bakery, Wilde chocolates, Noirín’s and Soul Bakery all provide samples. I always succumb. And it’s why I feel quite like a child after a birthday party now… when I sample, I buy!
Also spotted a guy selling non-​stick pans and there’s good fresh houmous and pesto on offer.
I had a froberry frozen yoghurt too-​tasty enough but NOT worth the € 2.50 for a small portion. You get maybe 4 spoonfuls. They charge another 50c for toppings and were pretty mean with them. Get a proper cone from the restaurant instead.
This market is becoming more attractive in the nice weather I have to say…

It’s difficult to conceive that the large complex of buildings just off the wide avenue of St Anne’s Park was built for the express purpose of housing horses. The Red Stables are a charming structure whose solid brick construction ensured that they outlived the Guinness mansion itself by some fifty years and counting.
There is a restaurant named Tír na nÓg in the loft of the stables (don’t let the diddle-​ee-​eye name put you off; it’s nice), but the principal activity that happens within the grounds of the Red Stables these days is the farmer’s market that takes place on Saturdays there during the summer. It’s quite possible that it takes place at other times of year as well, but I know for sure that it takes place during the summer and I don’t recall seeing it on at any other stage.
The fare on sale is pretty much the same stuff you get at any other farmer’s market — home-​made chocolates and quiches and whatnot — but it’s a nice location and it’s enjoyable to wander around even if you have no intention of buying anything.
So if you’re in St Anne’s of a Saturday with a relatively free schedule, pop down to the Stables.
