The Royal Canal is a great example of a place you can find peace in the middle of Dublin. Not only can you find peace but you can take a great long walk all the way from Dublin to Longford should you wish ! Along the way you will see all sorts of wildlife from Newts to frogs and toads to amazing birds. You can even find some great pubs along the way to inspire you even more on the lovely walk, the Twelfth Lock is perfect spot to refresh yourself with some pints in their beer garden. if you like to relax you can also find a good spot and drop your bait to try to catch some fish or just enjoy a good book its up to you. If you are feeling really adventurous you can even rent a canal boat and travel along for a few days. Interesting fact — «Quaternions were ‘invented’ by Sir William Rowan Hamilton, Ireland’s greatest scientist, who lived and worked nearby in Dunsink Observatory. Hamilton was walking by the canal when he had his Eureka moment, and scratched his equation in a stone by the towpath. The plaque was unveiled in 1958 by a Hamilton devotee, the maths teacher turned politician, Éamon de Valera.» you can find a plaque under the broome bridge.
