This is my local in Ireland! John Clinch is the owner and I have been coming here since… well, my first memory of this place is of being sat up on the bar by my dad to look at the Grand National and Red Rum-an Irish thoroughbred won the race, now that was something!!! I even got to place a bet on the winner, I’m a lucky penny, me! So… this is a little girl, in a pub, sitting on a bar, mid day, gambling on horses-NOT WEIRDATALL… this is Irish life, there’s no problem bringing your kids to the pub, ’cause chances are, your granny is there having her cup of tea and maybe watching the race too :-) Anyway, it wasn’t an Inn back in the day, but now John has converted this beautiful old country house into and inn and restaurant. My family call it The Clinic, ’cause that’s where you go after you’ve had a rough night and you need a cure for your hangover! I brought my ex here once, actually, I’ve brought all my exes here come to think of it… LOFL!.. but once we went during the week at about 2 in the day. There’s two fireplaces, one on each side of the pub. Years ago women were not allowed into the main part of the pub, they sat in a little part called The Snug and this is why there’s two parts in this place probably. We ordered our drinks and gossiped with all the locals who were asking me what Boston’s like :-)! We propped ourselves in front of the big stone fireplace and settled in for a good old chin-wag when all of a sudden the local hunt, who were on the run(fox hunting, yes I’ve participated, NO I don’t like it but it’s a way of life for hundreds of years in my county), decided they needed a drop of what cures all ills. So, they tethered their horses outside and within 15 minutes there was glasses of Jameson on our table and the place was rockin! After about an hour the local musicians brought their fiddles, tin whistles, bodhran’s and guitars — now we’re having a proper Irish ceili and seisun and OMG I think I danced and sang with every local man in the district and even my ex, a non Irish guy was giving the Irish dancing a go, it was so bloody funny! A couple of Spanish tourists wandered in in the middle of it all, looked a little confused for a minute and then they got right down to business with the drinking and the dancing too. Everyone was was happy, a little drunk and probably talking total shite-talk, but who cares! All this on a drizzly Wednesday afternoon in the middle of nowhere in Ireland… this is why I go home so often, I love it! Anyway, if you want a nice authentic place to stay, eat good homemade food, have lots of historical places to see within a few minutes drive, this is your place! It’s only about 40 minutes from the City(DUB) and close to fishing, golfing, horse riding, shopping, clubbing etc and a great weekend away destination!
