The staff are great and very helpful. I am a fan of Goats mild and they very kindly keep this aside for me. Spar maybe large company but each Spar is down to the individual owner/manager.

To be honest I rarely spend my time reviewing cornershops but I really felt I had to make some sort of comment in regards to Spar Monkstown. While the shop does have some redeeming qualities such as a good selection of goods and a cash point, these certainly don’t out weight some of its more negitive points. I’ve often found the staff there quiet rude(especially) the tall bearded clerk. Also to say the shop is wheelchair accessible is a joke. I myself am wheelchair bound and have had nothing but difficulty entering the shop. While picking up a few bits and pieces the other day I also heard one of the clerks(once again the bearded one with specks of grey in his hair) make a disparaging remark about my wheelchair. Something along the lines of «nice wheels Ironside». This is the last thing I need when I’m out and about.

This Spar is small and pokey, but like any convenience store it sells everything you need, from coke in small and big bottles, sliced pan in a packet and fresh Cuisine de France French bread and pastries, newspapers, magazines, greeting cards, bikkies and choccies, ice cream, crisps, sweets, bars, cigarettes… …

I can’t back up Laura’s observation in the last review suffice to say that i have never seen a attractive girl working behind the counter… and yes they have always been tall, dark men… whatever about handsome.(masculinity in tact i feel) The management in here are fantastic, friendliest, nicest people you will ever meet. While Spar may be a multinational company this store has successfully become a solid and well respected corner shop for people to meet and talk about the community. There is lots of window space for announcements and the place is usually well stocked. A big plus for this place is that it has the only Cashpoint in the whole of Monkstown, although it tends to run out of money quite fast.

So a Spar’s a Spar. Nothing particularly earth-shattering or exciting. What makes this particular Spar worthy of note is the fact that in all the years that I’ve frequented it, and there’s a lot of them, one wonderful thing has remained constant… there has been a steady flow of good-looking boys who happen to work there. And even better, they are of the ‘tall, dark and handsome’ type. I’ve never known a girl to go in here and not come out remarking on the high standard of candy on offer behind the counter. Owner Jaqui must have a thing for the younger men… and thank God for that!!!
