Limerick was merely a stopover for us on our third day in the country, but it was our first real experience with Irish hospitality. If you’re looking for a proper pub, this is it. Small, cozy and the right balance of locals poking fun and welcoming you into their daily life. A pint of Guinness poured from a vintage tap and a barkeep who told us he’d stay open as late as we wanted him to capped off our evening. We started with a round here before heading out for a full dinner, but he insisted we come back to finish our evening with him. We did and he sent us home with a Flannery’s pint glass each for a souvenir. Definitely make this a stop if you have a few minutes… or a few hours.

This pub is the epitome of a true Irish pub. Small, old (founded 1898), woody, and only accepts cash, no credit. They serve a very small list of inexpensive food such as simple salads, soups, and sandwiches that are very tasty. When we visited about 10pm, we were just about the only non-​locals there. All family owned and run and the service was great. They have a great selection of beer, a large selection of whiskey, and great live Irish bands play every night. If you want to experience a great local pub, this is the place to go!
