Lovely little self-service café with home baked desserts, scones, and breads. Friendly staff. I would definitely come again. I had vegetable soup and a wheat scone, but the desserts all looked very tempting. They sell all sorts of local woolen handcrafts and leather goods, books, and postcards.

After a long way round on gorgeous Achill Island this was a welcome site. Not much was open in the town in late September. It’s both shop & cafè. Indoor & outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is comfortable & offers a fantastic view of the ocean harbor. The shop sells typical familiar Irish wares: Aran Sweaters, scarves, handbags, children’s clothing, coats, socks eat, pottery, books, cards, postcards, jewelry, tea etc. The food is a la cart. Menu offers soups, sandwiches, scones, salads & a nice variety of homemade desserts like the Banoffee pie, which although sweet, it is exceptional. Beer, wine, cappuccino, tea etc. Loud. Buses galore too. Good restrooms. No wifi.

Nice place to sit outside while having lunch. Cafeteria style. Enjoyed their chicken salad. Friendly staff.

The Beehive does the whole Avoca thing very well — they have managed to mix a café with a shop selling art and home ware(read expensive pottery, aron jumpers etc.) in a attractively laid out shop… it just makes you want to spend money. And spend you do. the menu doesn’t seem expensive but given that we were a party of 5, all of whom had a bowl of soup and a drink(coffee or soda) and 2 desserts, the bill came to nearly 60 euro… that’s crazy. Coffee only from now on, or I wont be able to afford the petrol to get off the Island!

We arrived at The Beehive for lunch after walking out of another business just up the road(where we failed to have our order taken). I am so glad we did end up here. Served immediately, our orders were taken and we sat down at a clean table. The food arrived very promptly. It was delicious. We both went for Lasagne with side salad. The highlight was the salad, very fresh. I swear the carrot was grated straight onto the plate. The dining room was bright and clean, with views of the sea. The business seems to double as a gift shop as well as a café /restaurant. The wares are of high quality, with matching price tags. Reminded me of Avoca a bit. Their loos were nice and very clean, which is always a good sign of somewhere that provides food. The staff were young, bright and very friendly. We had a sucessful lunch in the end this day — hooray!
