Schnief! Howth Market, ich komme wieder!

Great compilation of local business together, in the same square and two days in a row. Chinese, Spanish, Irish with a little German touch, Hungarian and more food styles there available. I liked the local business there: the bread stand looks awesome, the craft jeweler very colorful, an spanish guy sells there cheese and chorizo in normal price and few meters from there you can find lots of amazing looking sweeties. And the most important thing: it is in Howth, a nice village to spend a Sunday, in front of the endless blue space that surrounded the island and can inspire your dreams. There are toilets as well, you just have to buy something and ask for the door code.

An incomparable frame, this is Howth and that’s makes this market a perfecto choice to spend a Sunday or a Saturday. Great food for all over the world is the main attraction to this place. Don’t forget to visit the Spanish food stand with the best taste from the southern Europe country.

We go for the cupcakes. The best in Dublin. I’m glad we discovered them. Now we have cupcakes ordered for our wedding!

Given the lack of these type of markets I think people just like the idea but compared to farmer markets in Germany /France /UK etc we are way behind the curve and perhaps my expectation was somewhat higher. Selection of stalls selling food and handcrafted items(soaps, boards, gift items etc). Some of the food stalls(bread /baked goods, cheeses, chocolates etc) looked enticing. We picked up some Cinnamon rolls. Some of the stall owners didn’t look all that interested in being there. Price wise not sure there are too many bargains to be found here There were allot of flies and wasps buzzing around which was off putting and dissuaded me from buying at a number of the stalls(namely a nice looking chorizo). I can imagine trying to fend them off is a loosing battle.

This might well seem harsh. Great location on Harbour Road. A lot of the people on the stalls come across as moody, curt and borderline rude! There are lots of food stalls but the amount of wasps and flies buzzing around their wares is just entirely off putting! What saved this from being a one is the Amore Gelato place, the gelato from there was fantastic and for that reason I’ll review that business separately.

Howth market can be the best or the worst depending on what you’re looking for. If you don’t mind the big tourist label on you, then go… If you want to pass for a local, avoid it. The market is a nice little place, with a nice variety of things to eat and souvenirs to bring back home. My advice is, don’t bother order food at the stalls and head instead at the Howth Deli at the entrance. It is simply a very cute shop. They offer a nice selection of organic products to bring home, and homemade desserts and sandwiches. I had the salmon sandwich, that may have looked very simple but that gave me the perfect foodgasm. You could taste the salmon was fresh(from the fish market on the pier) and not supermarket sh**. I then had the rhubarb crumble, and I don’t think there is a word to describe it… a heavenly slice of perfection maybe? The girls are very nice and happy to have a chat and help you. A must.

I had a wonderful time pottering around the market here today! There’s always such a good atmosphere about the place. I also love bumping into all the local town characters that used to visit the newsagents I worked in way back when! My favourite thing about the market is that there are actual stores that you can sit in now, fully protected from the rain! Chocolate compulsion is one of the best. The name says it all really! Melted chocolate on tap and let me tell ya, the Belgian waffles are perfection! The women who owns it is SO nice aswell! Really chatty and clearly loves people! My other favourite stalls are the nut stall(so many amazing nuts, try the honey glazed almonds), the hotdog stand(100% German sausage) and the cupcake booth! AIl in all it’s a lovely little market and a pleasant place to visit on a Saturday or Sunday morning! I will be going back again next week!

Such a charming asset to a very charming little town. A wide variety of artisan foods, baked goods and coffees are there. We had the Irish pulled pork sandwich and nachos. Yummmmm!

Last time I was here, Howth Market was a gravel parking lot with not so much charm. This past weekend I was here and Howth Market has completely transformed and has grown to something much better! They have added a handful more stalls from everything to handmade cutting boards, breads and cheeses, baked goods, pastries and sweets, things to eat on the go, crafts and jewellery. They have a few indoor shop fronts as well if you want to sit in and get a coffee or scoop of gelato. I was most impressed by the cupcake stand as you walk under the main entrance. I couldn’t help but eat a whole 6 cupcakes myself(they were mini, of course) with how good they looked and tasted. Howth Market is only open Saturday and Sunday but it’s a great local destination for a nice weekend out!

Wonderful farmers’ market. Interesting fruit stands at normal prices. It is not very large but it is a must-see on Sunday. To get to Howth you can catch a bus in Dublin or better for my taste, the DART which takes less than half an hour.

A trip to Howth is my absolute favourite way to spend a Sunday. But… I spend a fortune!!! The farmers market is a treat but I find myself buying mostly goodies, because the fruit and veg only lasts a day or two — my morale debate on the beneifits of chemicals. and they’re pricey. There is a good range of stalls, mostly food but there are others such as jewellary and clothes. After I’ve eaten my way around the stalls it’s lovely to walk it off down the pier or over to watch the seals perform for the kids who throw them bits of fish. If I’m feeling energetic Howth Head is there to be climbed! there’s also a great playground for kids and quite often a man playing his saxophone for my pleasure. There’s a good choice of restaurants from Seafood to Mexican, and a few little cafes(Mauds is good). Tip — if it’s a Sunday or the Sun is shining, get there early or take the dart. Otherwise you’ll sit in traffic on the coast road.

Forgot mention that Buns the cupcake people are at . They continue to produce divine cupcakes and the flavours and presentation are top notch. Got a mini butterfly cupcake this morning. Sooo cute! Actually prefer these to a lot of the cupcakes I got in New York recently-far tastier and taste home made. Your tummy will thank you! There were 2 young girls selling great chocolate biscuit cake and scones this morning too, as well as a guy with German cakes and bread and many many more. This market gets increasingly dangerous… :-)

A trip to the Howth markets is great way to spend a sunny Sunday. With a range of stalls — from fruit and veg to bakeries, coffee, jewellery and clothing, the Howth markets are good for a look or a shop. While I always find the clothing is a bit over-priced and lacking in originality, I have to say the fresh food and bakery items are delish! Yesterday I nabbed myself a beautiful apple pie(and healthy to boot!), a large punnet of strawbs and some of those cutsy cupcakes with out-there icing that are all the rage these days. There is a very friendly, relaxed vibe about the markets, and the vendors are usually very accommodating(especially the fruiterers, who indulged our fascination with the little orange ‘oranges’(kumquats) and let us try one, and then stood by politely while we screwed up our faces and spat them out). Thanks guys, I’m sure kumquats have their place in society, but we’ll stick to the fruits we know and love… The seafood chowder stall always sports a healthy queue, as does the creperie. All up there are about 40 stalls each Sunday(and Bank Holiday Monday) and a steady crowd meanders through the stalls between 10am and 5pm(weather permitting, of course!) Tip to turn a good Howth Market experience into an awesome Howth market experience: walk a little further past the market stalls to the Howth harbour(the exact spot will usually be marked by a gathering of humans cooing ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhhs’.) There you will find(if you are lucky) a gathering of seals! Amazingly beautiful in an ugly kind of way, these creatures will keep you and your children entertained for hours.

I stumbled across a new Howth Food Market on the weekend(21st February) in the grounds of Howth Castle. Apparently they have just started this market up to correspond with a new cooking class they are starting in the Castle. The market itself was rather small but the produce was of good quality and reasonably priced. Plus the sellers were all very knowledgable and helpful. A definite competitor for the Howth Markets by the water!

I was recommened to visit this weekly Sunday market by the manager of the hotel I was staying in and its definitely worth having a look at. It sells loads of different stuff but in my opinion it was best for fruit. There’s all sorts from apples to mangos and they guy who sells it is a real old fashioned salesman, totally charming and very entertaining to talk to. He even sold us an excellent gadget you can use to slice mangoes easily! Theres’s also selections of homemade jams and other sweet treats as well as a few tables of pretty jewellery which is made by the women who sell it. For people who enjoy seafood this market is a must as it’s a great chance to buy come genuinely just caught fish, straight from the harbour it was caught in! Definitely worth a visit.
