Very old fashioned, in a good way! If you’d like a quiet pint in a beautiful building, upstairs would do the job quite nicely, though I was only in the bar for one I found it pleasant and relaxing, if lacking a true pub atmosphere(It was early, don’t hold that against them!). The main element of our evening was a show in the theatre below, a tightly packed, intimate venue that seats about 60 and has a rather small stage, but perfect for the production we saw as it was a two cast member piece and the production, lighting & sound facilities were surprisingly good! A larger production would definitely run into problems with space but I really enjoyed the experience and would go back.

Went there for a performance for the Dublin Gay Film Fest — cute little place tucked away off Parnell St. There was a bar upstairs although the average age there is about 45! Still a nice enough place to grab a drink before the show. The theatre itself is very intimate with about 7 rows and seats about 50 people. I thought the stage was used to very good effect or maybe the production team for this play was just excellent! Definitely will keep an eye out for future performances in this venue!

The Teachers Club is home to some of the best traditional singers in Dublin on the right night, and offers a very good pint of Guinness at an excellent price. My main incentive to review it is the fact Guinness Mid Strength is on offer here. My advice? Avoid. It’s a glorified milkshake. The large, beautiful Maud Gonne photo and a perfect pint make this a nice place to relax and watch the telly. I watched the recent leaders debate here in good company and loved it. The bar staff are sound and deserve a mention.

Just to add to the other reviews, this really is a not-so-hidden gem of Dublin’s city centre. Situated on Parnell Square(across the road and up a bit from the Rotunda) there are rooms of various sizes for hire to groups from acting to yoga. The bar upstairs is a lovely room for a drink or a cup of tea and the staff are all lovely. I want to give a shout out to the theatre too. The production of Dancing at Lughnasa which runs till Saturday 25th September is well worth a look — although I should declare an interest as I’m helping out backstage.

The teachers club has many functions, but I think the most interesting and exciting is its Theatre@36. It’s a small, intimate space theatre that exhibits small theatre companies on a rotating basis. It’s definitely worth popping by to see what is on offer as it’s always something topical and definitely a nice change from the bigger productions at the Abbey. There’s a one man play on now until the 20th. In it he explores child abuse in the industrial school system. While this might be quite a grim topic it’s quite intriguing to see what the playwright has done with the material.

The heart of the INTO organisation — that’s primary school teachers to you and me! This massive property on Parnell Square offers several floors of entertainment and subsidised drinks for our beleagured educators. Recent additions have included an intimate theatre venue in the basement, in which the dramatic fare on offer tends to be of a fairly high standard. Best of all for us civilians(ie non-teachers) is the huge hall at the back which is available for hire for that wonderful night out known as a table quiz.

The Teachers Club is a venue that has many uses for different community groups and clubs. Singing groups, African community groups, teachers’ unions and activist groups, among others, make use of the spaces within this building. At basement level there is a theatre, the T36, where amateur theatre groups stage seasons of their plays. Upstairs is a charming old bar, with chandeliers and wooden surfaces that make the room look very classy indeed. The bar is very spacious and there are numerous tables strewn around the room, so it’s a good place to relax with a drink after a particular gruelling night at the theatre(some of these amateur productions really go for controversial topics and shock value!)
