Just between Doyles pub and Pearse Street garda station you will find this monolithic monument which was erected in Dublin to commemorate a large stone that stood in that very spot on the banks of the River Liffey ever since the first Anglo Norman ships entered the Viking Town Hundreds of Years ago. The story goes that the large stone. which i believe was VERY large… was found in the area and placed on end for ships to use as a landmark and landing area. It became so well known that the area was for a long time referred to as the Stein. It was eventually removed in the 1800’s and in more recent times a sculptor made what we see today as a memorial of the great stone and the history that surrounded it.
