The Loft is perfect for any shopper who supports independent designers. I love shopping for independent labels and thought that The Loft was a great way to showcase the work of some independent designers. The Loft is located on the top floor of Powerscourt Shopping Centre, just off Grafton Street. The Loft showcases several different designers and the merchandise include clothings, accessories, handbags. The good thing about this place is that the pricing varies from affordable to expensive depending on the designer. So the price range can fit many people’s budget. For those of you who like the TopShop label, one of the featured designers is affiliated with TopShop but she also has her own independent label Chupri. The clothing rack for Chupri was very affordable and cute. The fitting rooms are cool. Each fitting room cubicle is separated by a piece of curtain and so if you’re there on a girls’ shopping trip, after you’ve changed into the clothes you can pull the curtain to the side and ask each other’s opinions about your newfound clothes without having to step out of the cubicle with bored husbands and boyfriends looking at you. Also, depending on the label of your purchase, some are cash-only and some accept credit cards. The lady working at The Loft told me that different designers set their own payment policy although they feature their merchandise in the shared space at The Loft.

Just knowing this place exists makes me feel a little trendier. Secreted away at the top of that poshest of posh Powerscourt Townhouse, The Loft is a hot spot for finding the latest in boutique Dub fashion. Now, I’m not talking about a «ladies who lunch» boutique that takes appointments and only stocks size 6 and under –this is a burgeoning den of cool where Dublin designers try something new and show it all off on the racks and brick walls of this raw industrial space. On weekends a DJ spins(though I’m over the ironic replaying of 80s b-sides) and headband-wearing, skinny jeaned hipsters lounge on the sofas. Prices are a little steep for the budget shopper, but the pieces here are unique and handmade(or vintage and relabelled). All in all, it’s cooler than cool.

The Loft is a beautiful Aladdin’s cave of pretty clothes and accessories. Every time I walk in here I can’t decide what I want to look at first: the jewellery, the clothes or the bags? I will just have to check out everything then… The clothes are all pretty unusual and very pretty– especially the dresses. And then there are the tables covered in jewellery… every kind of jewellery from more subtle silver necklaces to really eye-catching pendants and rings. It’s a great place to find nice presents for your friends or if you just want to have a look around and admire the gorgeous things in here.

Lets buy local this Christmas. The young creatives need all the support they can get. The Loft is run by a collective of Irish artists and designers who needed a place to promote their work and opened this unique space for us shoppers to enjoy. At this top-notch designer market located on the top floor of Powerscourt, you can find cool gift items by up-and-coming local artists, from casual street clothing to eye-catching designer dresses, gorgeous hair accessories, prints, scarves, vintage jewellery and natural hand-made skin-care products. Last time I checked they had good Christmas offers like buy two dresses and get the third for free! Complete the look with a glamorous necklace or earrings and you’ll be ready for all the holiday partying. Special Christmas opening hours:(Monday 21 — Wed 23 from 12 – 8 and Christmas Eve from 12 – 5)

A great market space set up in 2006 where a wide variety of different fashion designers of all sorts can sell their wares. It acts as a much-needed outlet and support system for up-and-coming designers finding it hard to break through within the Irish fashion scene. Past participating designers include the four designers behind Bow, which demonstrates the kind of creative environment The Loft can be. For shoppers it’s got a great buzz to it, with good music and a hip vibe, and it’s a brilliant place to pick up unusual clothes and accessories of the sort you wouldn’t find elsewhere on the high street. As well as new designs, there’s usually a good selection of vintage sellers as well. The Loft is open on the weekends and Friday’s and it’s well worth a jaunt if you’re around the area.

The Loft is a great idea. The Powerscourt Centre have opened up this previously unused space and turned it into a Mecca for jewellery and original design seekers. It’s a melting pop of Irish designers and jewellers giving them the opportunity to sell their wares and have an outlet to the general public. You’re sure to find something original here, nice and different to the high street selection that we’re used to. It’s great for a special occasion(no fear of having the same dress) or for unusual and unique presents. Keep an eye out for Yvonne Ross Jewellery here, some gorgeous stuff.
