There are not so many places in Dublin selling Italian products if you like to cook a nice pasta or grab a nice ice-cream. The place is nice, there are so many products, organics fruits and vegetables, some prepared food(lasagne, pasta, etc) When you have a few places you can decide going there or not. Regarding the products, they have a big selection, regarding the service, I found the personal is not very nice. Basically if you have a shop you need to have good matters, if not you work in other places where you are happy, I include the owner, and at same time try to know a few Italian words, it will be nice for the people who decide buying in your shop and do not forget the first rule«smile« Prices are ok because you are buying products they are arrive from Italy and you do not find in others supermarkets.

The outside has a number of high quality vegetables and fruits displayed in crates. Sometimes while picking my produce, I imagine myself in a scene from the Godfather. At any moment, the mobsters will rush at me with their popped collars and mow me down with their Tommy guns. I’ll lay dying on the sidewalk, the tomatoes and oranges slowly rolling down into the road. But, I digress. The Best of Italy is a really fun place to browse. It is cramped, but full of interesting Italian goods. I’ve tried their wine, prosciutto(from a deli), Italian sodas, anchovies(very good ones), jams, pasta, olive oil, bread and cookies. All were great, and if you need help, the staff are very cheery and will patiently ask you what you’re planning to use the ingredients for before suggesting a product(it can be a bit bewildering if you don’t know your Italian brands). I also once got a quick panini there, and it was toasted to perfection. The prices are actually quite reasonable, and they’ll occasionally have sales(e.g., discounts on packs of pasta). If you’re ever around Beechwood, don’t forget to stop by.

The intricacies of the difference between all the varieties of pasta seem to be lost in most shops in Ireland. At home my Grandma knows the style number if you will of every pasta, and for which dish it should be used. In the Best of Italy this love of pasta is exemplified in the wall filled with all varieties and shapes of pasta. It’s enough to make the mouth water thinking about all the dishes that could be made. The rest of the shop is filled with all kinds of wonderful items that perfectly compliment the pastas and can quickly turn them into delicious dishes. If there’s still room left to dessert you won’t be disappointed with the choices of biscuits and other italian delectables that are piled high in the front of the store. With the Christmas season upon us there was a huge amount of panettone. If that’s not enough outside the shop they’ve got a great little selection of fresh fruits and veg for your picking at very reasonable prices.

Wow! If I could choose to be locked over-night inside one grocery shop, I have found it! This authentic Italian grocer and deli in Ranelagh is true to its name and offers the very best of Italian eatables: freshly baked bread, coffee and tea, pasta, sauces and pesto, olive oil and vinegars, cheese and salami etc. … pretty much everything you need for an Italian fiesta, and a large selection of quality Italian wines to go with every dish. I have to especially recommend the pre-made pizza dough, it’s the best one I’ve found in town, and you’ll of course also find all the toppings you need to make a «home-made» pizza. In the back of the shop you’ll find a very appetizing deli counter with ready-to-go soups and sandwiches. Turn around and you’ll need to fight the urge to grab a cake or two for dessert. This was my best discovery of the week, and it’s a hard competition. My only wish was to be an Italian so I could really appreciate the gourmet selection, especially after witnessing my half-Italian housemate turn into a kid in a candy-store.
