Dinner in Tenors for a tenner! ha ha see what i did there?(sorry!) Anyway, what a bargain and on top of this you can get starters for a fiver and a desert for a fiver too! now you think you might be served muck for these prices or the portions might be tiny but tenors does not disappoint at all! you get decent sized portions and anything i have had has been quite tasty indeed! I love that you can sit outside in this place, taking advantage of what little sun we get in this country is a must and the courtyard allows you to do this, unfortunately unlik other outdoor eateries there is not much scope for people watching. Ah well the cheap food makes up for the lack of a view!

A restaurant in Donnybrook where every dinner is a tenner? Impossible! Surely the high-falutin’ residents of this high-falutin’ suburb would simply giggle and walk on by, wiping their eyes with € 50 notes? Of course not, they flock here in their droves, take their seats in the huge dining room and get to ordering. The food on offer is grand, but order carefully as some of the dishes come well equipped with vegetables while others don’t — if you choose in haste, you may have to break the budget and order them on the side, bumping up the bill by € 3. I recommend the carb-tastic treat of slow braised beef and Guinness pie with mash, which will fill you up until dinner time the next day.

I love this place, you get the dining out experience, the sense of occasion that going out to dinner should be yet at the end of the eve you are not making a quick call to the bank manager to get out a short term loan to cover the meal. The menu is very straight forward, starters are 5Euro(save soups which are 4), mains are 10 Euro(with the exception of the steak which is a whopping 18… really, you wouldn’t get a starter for that in some places!) and the sides and deserts range from 2.50 to 5 euro. reasonable is not the word… oh wait, yes it is. Outside — for the sunny days, is the courtyard(indeed in a previous incarnation the place was called the courtyard) it is just made for summers eves or wrap up a bit for the autumn… don’t even dream of it in the winter! The restaurant has a sister establishment in Naas which my parents rave about… so this is deffo not just a once off!

The first breed of restaurant to ride the wave of the recession vibe. They have a spot in Naas and Dublin and basically they do exactly what their names says. Everything on the menu, main-course, is a tenner. And it’s good food, steak, salmon, quality cuts of meat. I ate there about three weeks ago as I was passing through. It’s just even tastier when you know that it will just set you back 10 quid. I got the salmon and trust me they did not put any old thing together, it was top notch. I’d pay easily double that in so many other restaurants. Service was amazing. It’s so popular now that they are booked out practically every night so book ahead, seriously I tried to get a spot on a Tuesday and I called on a Monday, they were booked for the week. The food critic Paulo Tullio gave them a fantastic write up which has added to their business. Fair play to them for giving us cash strapped folks what we want.
