Talbot Street

This street might have a lot of history but it does not show and the shop selection are not too impressive. I am a sucker for cheap inexpensive things but I would like those things to be beautiful, tasteful and decently made. This is NOT the case for these shops, be it food, clothing, shoe or grocery shops.
The restaurants are flavorless foods and too expensive for what you get. The clothing is not even close to fashionable or comfortable but tacky, the same goes for the shoes, though I must say that some of the stores seem to have comfort as their main business which I do have the most of respect for. The grocery stores are the standard stores and not anything special.
I have walked on this street a lot and it has not helped my perspective on it. Maybe if I knew more about the history I would appreciate it more.

Talbot Street is a shopping street in the City Centre of Dublin, similar to Henry Street, however unlike the latter it’s filled with lots of mom and pop shops (i.e. little mobile stores, small off-​licenses, pound/​euro-​stores, etc.) instead of large corporation chain stores.
Like other reviewers have stated, it’s definitely multi-​cultural with lots of deal shops, a few pubs (including The Celt where I had my first Ireland-​Guinness) and some grocery stores.
You’ll also find sidewalk artists on this street along with tons of people walking-​thru/​shopping/​eating/​etc.
This is also the main direct road between Connolly Station/​IFSC and The Spire on O’Connell Street.

It is true, that the Northside of Dublin is abot more multicultural than the Southside and one of the places where you can see that is Talbot Street. Yes, there are a few dogdy, cheap places on Talbot Street– pound shops, call shops and the like. But there is also a few gems here– Alexandra pointed out a few of them such as 101 Talbot and Le Bön Crubeen already. Other places worth noting are The Celt pub and Mother Kelly’s. However, I do have to say from personal experience that you should hold on really tight to your bag as mine was stolen here. Talbot Street is also leading up to Connolly Station and the IFSC so it’s worth checking it out.

Talbot has a bad reputation with a lot of people (mostly Southsiders) for being dirty and rough. However, my review is going to focus on the good aspects of this dingy street.
I like its rawness; I think that it reveals the dirty underbelly of the city, something that should be admired and not ignored. It reflects how the city’s lower class lives.
Walking down the street, you also become aware of Dublin’s multiculturalism. It’s nice to see diversity and how different cultures interact.
A lot of emigrants shop here because they know that they’ll get good bargains. Besides the numerous pound shops, there are also plenty of specialty food shops.
Some business that I recommend are 101 Talbot and Le Bön Crubeen for fine dining, FX Buckeley for a good piece of meat, Guineys for everything related to the house and Clearys Pharmacy for all cosmetic and personal needs.
