What a wonderful place. Shebeen Chic is the classic hole-in-the-wall experience, in the best of ways. Upon entering you are greeted with live music and amazing décor. It is clearly one of those places that not everyone knows about, but the people who do frequent it often and bring their friends. The drink menu is extensive. While the food menu is limited, it is hard to choose a dish because of how insanely delicious every dish sounds. And the items on the menu didn’t just sound delicious, they absolutely were. Most of the dishes were traditional Irish meals gone modern. Shebeen Chic is a great place to go to with friends after a long day, have a few drinks, eat some amazing food, enjoy live music, and revel in what life is.

I don’t know what it’s like now since they have new owners but I was there quite a few times in 2011. They had a great comedy night(with free ice cream and spot prices on beer). It was so much fun and the audience was always part of the act weather they wanted to be or not but in a good way. I wasn’t really into staying there afterwards though.

Ever walk into the right place at the right time and meet the right people? This was one of those times. I was by myself in Dublin for a work trip. I was bored with wandering around town, looking for a ‘traditional Irish pub’ and wandered across Shabeen Chic. I could not see inside, and there was a sign about their photography exhibit inside, so I decided to have a peek. What a great decision. I opened the door to a jam-packed(yet comfortable) assembly of all kinds of people — from the states, to Africa, Ireland(of course) and all over EU(you will hear ~10 languages being spoken just while sitting at the bar). The open mic night(Monday) was FANTASTIC. Everyone was sitting around on beer kegs(with cushions) and the music was just amazing. A girl from Maine played and sang with her acoustic guitar, Irish guys sang country, and a Brazilian guy played bagpipes while a band played with him. The place was jumping. Beer selection is grand, no idea on food(I am vegan so I hit up Juice just up the street first). Heading to Dublin? Shabeen Chic is a HIGHLY suggested stop.

I had booked the downstairs area for a private party from 7pm till 10pm on a sat night. It was a women’s only night called«five minute friends». they insisted on knowing exactly what the night was about so i described it as ‘Kinda like a friendly, platonic version of speed dating for LGBT women’ is how I explained it to them on the phone. When I arrived at 6.55pm the room was not set up, they had forgotten. I was asked ‘is that the speed dating?’ and I said ‘no it’s not actually speed dating its called five minute friends but yes that’s my booking’. I helped them set up the room as everyone was arriving and when it was finally done it looked great. We had our own bar, lots of seating, close to toilets and control over the sound and lighting which was perfect for our event. a huge down side to the night that i hadn’t foreseen was there wasn’t a sign/black board or something provided by the bar to say ‘Private Party’. At least a half dozen times I had to ask people to leave as it was a private party. One couple refused and only left after I stood uncomfortably close to them for ten minutes. And three times, after explaining it was a women only event, I had to tell men that they couldn’t join in and they couldn’t stand and watch from the stairs!!! We had our own female bartender yet male staff members kept wandering through the event for what seemed to only be to chat and ask ‘is this this lesbian speed dating?’. Very frustrating. The staff were very nice but just a little to inquisitive and chatty amongst themselves. At one point four staff members stood behind the tiny bar chatting and laughing while two people waited to b served. I wouldn’t use them for a private party again as they just didn’t have enough professionalism.

Great place for a pub crawl to rock up in to, the free shots we got went down a treat! Shame about the shenanigans that went on outside but the management had no control over that :/

Shebeen Chic is a great pub that always seems to have a nice crowd no matter which night of the week you visit. I love the décor at the front, it gives the place a bit of a true shebeen feel to it. The bartenders are always in good form and on the ball as well. The only complaint I have is with the smoking area in the back — it is quite possibly the smallest smoking area ever and is literally packed to the doors on the weekends.

The Crafty Market this Saturday was actually better(albeit smaller) than the Grand Social’s Flea Market – which has 3 floors to deal with. I actually got some of my Christmas shopping done here. I was impressed and can’t wait to come back for a drink or a bite to eat.

Are you quirky? Kind of kooky? Do you hate labels and love chaos? Well, if you’re 3 kinds of funky you should stop into Shebeen, you’ll fit right in. At least you’ll fit into their décor. Shebeen is as eclectic in their décor as they are in their customers. It really seems like anybody and everybody is welcome here, so don’t let it scare you. The staff almost goes out of there way to be friendly and welcoming. Besides it’s hard to find something you don’t like about a place that looks like a cross between an old living room or maybe The Mad Hatters tea party and a antique shop. Frames lining the walls, some with art and some empty, tables and chairs with no two alike, and little candle holders to light the tables. The one thing that gets me is the basement, it’s like a different world, dark and like a dungeon. I think they might keep the mole people down there. I think there was a pool table, a bar, and a flat screen, but I couldn’t tell. Upstairs is more where it’s at anyways. As cool of a bar as this is, it gets even better, they serve food! And real food I might add. It’s definitely all artsy like the whole joint but was tasty too. Check out their snack menu, very cool. Next time I’m going for the 80’s snack plate! We had Chargrilled Field Mushroom Salad –Ardrahan cheese, mixed leaves, toasted walnuts & black olives(Not bad for only 6 euro). Deep Fried Calamari –smoked paprika batter served with lemon aoili(not the best I’ve ever had). Soup of the Day –Some sort of vegetable medle(how can you go wrong)

It’s decided, this is my new local! From the second I walked in the door I knew this was the place for me. It has such a kitsch and kooky feel with all the random paraphernalia that make up the décor. It’s so quirky you could spend your whole time simply looking around at all the paintings, lampshades etc. :D Unfortunately I can’t comment on the food but I can safely say that they make one hell of a mojito … slightly on the expensive side though @ € 10, especially when you consider that Capitol is just up the road. Nonetheless I love this place… it’s a place that’s so easy to pass by a hundred million times and never notice … therein lies the added appeal(keep the crowds away)!

Quite possibly my favorite stop in Dublin, I’d like to carve out a little corner here and make it my own. Love the décor and use of space: it’s all quite visually stimulating, inviting you to take a lap around the space to look at all of the found/bartered items a bit more closely. So while the space is divine, the food is the winner here. I tried the burger and was totally blown away. And trust me, I’ve had a lot of burgers. Homemade ketchup, a hefty juicy paddy, fresh slightly crunchy bun and a cheddar cheese that must have been Heaven-sent, with a side of perfect chips. It was a bit pricey but in the end certainly worth it: I’m a serious fan of this spot, and I think you would be, too.

Noticed that they havethe couch back on the street for the summer. Food is priced decently and anything I have had was quite filling. The crafty market has recently set up shop there, well worth checking out They used to have blood boxty and pots of mussels on the menu though, I miss those! (blood boxty for those inquiring is like gratin with black pudding in it)

I’ve been here twice now and the two mains I have had have been the Burger(decent) and the Bangers & Mash(very tasty). The pork pie starter is quite bland, so avoid but the espresso martini was fantastic and made up for the mediocre starter. The mains are not exorbitantly priced either. In general, a nice place to go to kick off a night out — decent atmosphere, reasonable food and good cocktails. I’ll likely be heading back :)

This is like a coffee bar turned bar turned restaurant turned hippie hangout turned music venue. I experienced the restaurant/hippie/music part a few nights ago. I guess one of the regulars was in tip-top form, randomly shouting at the top of his lungs«ARGGHHHH». He also shook everyone’s hands when he left so maybe he’s the owner? I also heard a random band playing«House of the Rising Sun» by the Animals but luckily a large crowd of people acted as a natural sound barrier for us. As for the food — the«80’s platter» turned out to be some unimaginative eggs and lox on bread. I do not recommend this. The burger, however, was quite tasty, as was the bangers and mash consumed by my friend. Besides just not getting the restaurant vibe, I think it was alright.

I have a love-hate relationship with Shebeen. I love it’s quirkiness from it’s 1980s game cabinets downstairs to the jumble shop appearance upstairs. But it does annoy me and I don’t know why. The staff, owner and management are all savagely friendly and great craic. really down-to-earth and enjoyable to be around. The food is great and there’s a cheeky little cocktail bar downstairs where the drinks can only be described as saváiste. I suppose this review started out sounding a bit 50 – 50 and ended up being really good. I really don’t know what it is that annoys me about this place so I guess I’ll have to keep going back till I find out, four stars!

On my last night in Dublin I was faced with an epicurean quandary: Irish stew or burger with Irish cheddar? Thankfully, the lovely waitress at Shebeen Chic made the choice easy by saying the burger was unlike any other she’d tried. One bite of that thick, juicy piece of meat proved her right. And the accompanying chunky chips also brought great joy. It was a faultless meal save for the homemade ketchup which, oddly, tasted slightly like a curried marinara sauce. For a unique dinner in Dublin, I’d highly recommend Shebeen Chic.

I went to the restaurant and the food was fabulous. I ordered a goat cheese tart that came with loads of rocket on top. It was so good that just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I know a few people who work here so I can’t complain about the service because I got special treatment. My two dinner companions and I got a complimentary glass of champagne with a raspberry in the bottom of it. I really really like this restaurant. It reminds me of a lot of places back in Montréal. Funky and down-to-earth.

I love love love this little gem of a place. The décor is fab and shabby and cool and unique. It is like being in a boudoir or old style living room but with quirky touches like upside down painting and other stuff on the walls! It is very cool and creates a very cosy atmosphere. There are lots of small intimate tables with candles and low lighting all round making it fell quite romantic yet when I was there it was with a girlfriend and there where lots of other tables of girls on the town or birthday celebrations. In fact the place was quite full by 8pm on a Friday night. The menu has a traditional Irish feel to it with lots of heavy memory warming dishes on offer. My friend had the salmon selection served with lots of home made soda bread and she said it was delicious and it was a huge portion! I had the best soup I have ever had in my whole life, so rich, creamy and tasty. one bowl was not enough, it was carrot and rosemary flavour. For mains my friend had the pork belly on a creamy barley with peas and roasted parsnips, and it was heavenly but after all that salmon was too much for her to finish. I on the other hand had the tomato and caramelised onion tart with wild greens and it was really tasty as well. Add on top of that a coke and a soda water and lime and the tip and the whole thing came to a very reasonable 42euro! I would have paid that for the soup alone! I really enjoyed myself here and cannot wait to go back. The staff were super friendly and attentive and the service great!

Shebeen Chic is a jewel that you’ll never ever find if you don’t take the time to smell the roses(the proverbial ones, anyway) on Georges St. I must have walked past about 100 times myself before noticing it, but I’m glad I finally did. Shebeen Chic is one of those places with tonnes of character that finds itself somewhere halfway between outlandishly cool and pretentiously bohemian. You can never quite be sure if they’re TRYING to attain the out-there crazy, haphazard look, or if it really does just happen that way. I can almost imagine the shop’s owners sitting around an intricately thought out floor plan, saying ‘yeah, if we hang a portrait sideways here, and then string a clothesline through the main eating area there, it’ll all look really random.‘ However, for all that it might be a ‘set up’ kinda cool, it does actually exude a bohemian coolness that can’t be ignored. And, it’s a great place to settle down for a couple of bevvies. Be sure to check out the extra little bit — a private dining area for around 10… They even throw in the kitchen sink(literally). Would be the coolest place to host a birthday dinner…

Without doubt my favourite eatery in this town, yes I mentioned Chapter One at one point being the proverbial crack to my taste buds but that is going on the assumption that I pee gold to fund my lifestyle. I don’t pee gold. So that said, the Shebeen is perfect for someone with a transient budget like me. I used to go there every Sunday to read my paper, and the NYC bartender at the time, kept giving me a free pint after every pint I bought, just because we bantered… No he was not flirting, he did it to a few people at the bar… Or perhaps he was flirting with us all at the bar… That slut! Oh well, I liked being played for several free pints. Food is basic and Irish themed and so tasty. The interior is a mishmash of various quirky objects and you can have an object if you barter with them an equally odd piece. The owner told me that the reason they are relatively cheap, booze wise, is the bottles of vino will have some flaw, like the label with be upside down and they therefore get it cheap and pass on the love. Downstairs they do cocktails, but I prefer to stay upstairs because it’s more interesting visually, to me at least. Watched an acoustic Spanish band there recently, very cool. Plus they don’t believe in measures, yay! The American system of if you tip or are nice you will get an extra bit of vodka. I just want to live in this place forever.
