This place is terrible, not clean and bad smell. We walked in and walked straight back out.

I come here for my lunch some days and always get lovely food. Everything i have ever gotten has been very fresh and tasty. It is just a nice little shop that has great staff and food.

About twelve or thirteen years ago, a friend who worked on the same street brought me here for lunch a few times. I was in the neighbourhood today and remembered their spaghetti bolognese so fondly that I thought it was worth going to see if it was still open. Indeed it was, and the only hot food they offered was still spaghetti bolognese or lasagna –and they had run out of spaghetti bolognese! Soup and sandwiches were also on offer, but I decided to go with the lasagne and it was really tasty. It didn’t look like much, but it was delish. It’s quieter than I remember, back in the Celtic Tiger days there was definitely more of a scrum but despite having to share a table it didn’t feel rushed or cramped. They take credit cards now which is handy, and I got chatting to who I presume was the owner(lovely guy) while paying. A simple place that does what it does really well.

Probably the most original coffee shop in D2. A real gem off the beaten track.

There are not many places in Dublin if any where you can pay the next day for your lunch. This place only takes cash and my friend did not have any cash on him so they said that he could just pop in the next day — wow! He did indeed pay the next day as if not you are just asking for bad karma. It’s cute inside, feels very much like you are in someone’s living room. My sandwich was standard fare and the service was pleasant. They do have a good lunch menu and tend to run daily offers.

The Salt Cellar is a bit like some of the virgin islands, hard to find but so much enjoyable once you find it. First, when going there, the staff actually smile, it costs nothing smiling but brings so much before even tasting the food. The small staircase going down to the cellar gives a certain sense of going to someone’s home. The décor is quite rustic(too much maybe?) and the premises not extremely well ventilated. For lunch time, this can be quite busy with business people from upper and lower Mount Street coming to get one of their sandwiches… well, let’s talk about the sandwiches… Oh My Goodness!!! I cannot think of any other places where I have had such a chicken breast; tender, tasty and big! I would recommend: brown bread(home-made), coleslaw, bacon, melted swiss cheese and this famous-to-be(I would hope) breaded chicken breast. Honestly, if you’re around the area and want to treat yourself with a nice sandwich, think of the Salt Cellar. The only minor points I could see: the premises, although it’s a good networking place as a lot of business people come, their hot chocolate(I’m sorry but a Cadbury chocolate powder drink is not what I call a hot chocolate) and their location. In a nutshell, this is a fine place to go and have a good, quick lunch. Sandwiches are definitely some of the best ones around. This would certainly deserve to be more known. And I insist again, people there look like they love their jobs and want to share this passion with their customers — this make a huge difference! 4 stars — well deserved!

Where is the Salt Cellar you ask? St Stephen’s Church(also called Pepper Canister) behind you, walk on the right hand side of the road, and look for that small black board. At first I didn’t see it but I happened to bump into it at some point. That is where the Salt Cellar is: 29 Upper Mount Street. What is it like? All right then, go down the stairs and reach that wooden door. Seems like I am going to a cellar or something. This is it ! Once you are inside, it just feels like home. The Salt Cellar is a charming place where you can spend hours just reading newspapers/magasines or have a chat with your friends. I brought my best friend and he just loves it now. What about the food? The Salt Cellar is a Sandwich bar & Coffee shop. My best friend is always hungry, and when I say ALWAYS it means basically ALLTHETIME. One sandwich and I can be in peace for the rest of the afternoon, it really works ! For the less hungry ones, like me, they cut the sandwiches in two so that you can bring the rest home or, eventually, give it to your best friend who is actually(hum) more hungry than expected. On top of that, everything is really tasty ! Would that suit for a business lunch? The Salt Cellar is located in a business street. Then, most customers are business people. The sandwiches are quite cheap and finger licking good. To eat on site or to take away, this is a great place to go to ! «I’m hungry» says my best friend. All right, what about going to the Salt Cellar XD
