It is a pub and also a restaurant, but it looks more like a restaurant. Too quite for a pub! Friday night after 10 and almost no one at the pub side. Good for chatting . Plenty of tables and Tvs around. It is not a big place but it felt just as a good place to put friends together and then move on. Just had a few pints and didn’t try the food. The menu looked interesting though. Next time :)

Daecent. The place has had a few revisions over the last few years and everything’s a bit more polished. The upstairs section could add a large amount of capacity but the place is rarely open from what I can tell. The upstairs beer garden seems like it’d be great if the sun was at the right angle or the weather was decent but this being Dublin, neither of those things have happened yet. The back«library» area is cozy but also far enough back that you can have a decent conversation even when the place is busy — assuming there isn’t a match on. The food selection’s still very much traditional pub fare(definitely give the pasta+veg a wide berth), but the beer selection is reasonably expansive with three of the Franciscan Well beers on tap and a few others, plus a decent selection of others in bottles. There are also surprisingly good pizzas on offer for € 10. The staff are generally very friendly, ranging from polite to chat-for-five-minutes depending on who it is. From what I’ve witnessed they tend to be very good to tourists and are full of recommendations about what to see and do, so that’s definitely a plus for visitors. I suppose my main endorsement of the place is that it’s my go-to place to watch rugby matches and also a default for a few quiet mid-week pints.

I know you might be thinking, ‘isn’t this the place where that guy was shot?’ Yes, that’s true, but it’s also an amazing, cozy little pub with a few craft beers(Franciscan Well of Cork) on tap that I go to on a regular basis. Yes, I live incredibly close to it, but hey, it’s a great local. I do wish the food selection was a bit better. It has what you’d expect from a pub, but nothing else. The food I have tried was sub-par, as well. So, it’s great for a pint on a windy/wet day with its fireplaces and comfy seating, but I wouldn’t recommend it for food.

This was my first time to visit Oil Can Harry’s but I have to say I was impressed. It was a safe haven and a blessing in disguise on the Sunday of the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend so we fully expected every pub within a 10 mile radius of the city centre to be absolutely jam packed. Thankfully this was not the case. Though that’s not to say the place wasn’t busy, it still was. But just a nice crowd where you could still find a seat. We asked the waitress what they had on tap & she recommended one of the craft beers they sold which we both thoroughly enjoyed & the service was excellent, they were continually asking how we were & if we wanted another drink, but not in an overbearing way. I will definitely visit again. 3 stars because it’s still city centre prices, despite the fact that it’s beyond Merrion Square and also the chairs were a bit old school tavern, an auld couch wouldn’t go amiss in the place!

I got to disagree with the first 2 reviews, remember they are from 2009, and agree with Brendan. Now it is a nice pub that I happened to stumble upon … I am meant to be in Howl at the Moon, but they don’t open until 8 :( Anyway, nice pub. Pool table, nice barman… Remembered that I took a menu and followed me 2⁄3 mins later to see if I wanted anything(I hid myself in the dark corner). This might seem pushy to some people but what if you had a question… Perfect timing! The pub is a nice quite/dark pub. Quite except for the sports going on in the background TV’s and screen. But it has some nice snug type places where you can avoid looking at the screens. Or you can play pool. This is the sort of pub I would love to come into for a few quite drinks, maybe a serious talk with a mate. I am off to howl at the moon now, but I will keep this place in my mind. As for food — burger with onions AND Red Peppers. Who puts red peppers on a burger(peppers are vile, JSYN) as you should notice from previous reviews, I like burgers and I review food venues on their burgers. Though I am sure it is a nice place, and I haven’t touched their food I point you too my second paragraph. Enjoy :)

I don’t know what people are expecting from this place but I was expecting nothing as it was a quick couple pints before heading to Dobbins and I loved it. So much so that after dinner we went back for a few more pints. It’s a pub pub. If you know what I mean. Staff are friendly, remember every drink you just ordered without writing it down(there was 12 of us). They gave us a free platter when we arrived(not what we needed just before dinner but we nibbled at it and it was nice as far as bar food goes and gorgeous as far as free food goes!)… There’s no bells and whistles with this place. It is a place to have a drink. What pubs are made for. Nice pint, grand cheap(very cheap in our case) bar food. Stop yer whinging and moaning people and take it at face value. They also have a pool table(A bonus in my book)… I am a fan. I will be back!

Oil Can Harry’s looks like a nice enough pub when you walk past, all dark wood and comfy chairs. But there is no atmosphere really and it’s more for an older clientele it seems. The bartenders are nice and efficient and they do draw a good pint, and yes, the chairs are comfortable, but it doesn’t seem enough. If you want atmosphere, there is nicer pubs around the corner in Ballsbridge and if it’s a place to have something to eat, again there is better ones just 2 minutes away. Oil Can Harry’s is not a no-no but a I wish I hadn’t bothered because it is pretty unspectacular.

I went here for a family meal once when my sister won a prize for free dinner for 12 people. We were seated upstairs in a private room and all I remember from the night that it was soooo dingy. It’s just a grubby pub really, and the food wasn’t great. The staff were rude too and overall it was a pretty miserable dining experience!
